"The King and I" - 21 Days on Koningsdam

Hi, Chief. Glad I can be of help.

BTW, a few days into our cruise, it was announced in our daily "When & Where" that a new app would be available that we found useful to keep in touch with our daughter, as we did wine things, and they preferred beers or harder stuff! At least we could arrange to meet up occasionally.

Sorry that was sideways - I did edit it around, but it seems to have reverted!

The Chat icon is on the Navigator at the top left of the page, looking like a cartoon drawing of speech. Through it you could find anyone, if you knew their name, and send a message. A number would show up on the icon if you had message/s, the only thing missing is a sound to let you know to check. Maybe they will find a way to add that.

The pools were interesting in that they both had "balcony" areas above them. The Panorama Bar was above the Lido Pool. It took us a while to find it.

Thank you so much for the info and pictures. We willbe on the K-dam this summer, From the pictures and your description of the artwork, it reminds me very much of Celebrity Solstice class ships. I think someone may have even mentioned that the same designers were employed for K-dam as for Solstice ships, I may be mistaken,

Thanks, KK and CJcruzer - Interesting what you said about Celebrity. What I noticed in ports is that we were no longer the smallest ship! We towered over some of the little guys!

But it was alright, in most ports, where we could, we had two gangways, so it was not crowded.

As I looked at the pictures, I too thought of Celebrity's S-class ships, which my wife and I find stunningly beautiful. Maybe we have to try the K-dam!

OP: thanks very much for taking the time to post your thoughts and photos.

Tell me how to eat the herring. Do you just let them slide down your throat without chewing? Hope to sail with you someday. Just did 57 on the Volendam to Asia. Amazing time!

Dutch salted herring; you've gotta chew it as the fish comes down your throat! If you don't, you'll choke

Great review, great pictures, thanks so much for your candid review. My mom and dad loved cruising, they both have passed now, but we are sailing as a family, on the Koningsdam March 2019, as she was christened on my moms birthday. Once my sisters and I heard that, we looked at each other and said we all need to be on ship, and so we shall be and looking forward to it.

Even more fabulous pictures :). Thank you Ann.

They certainly show very clearly what you meant in your original post. ;).

<snip>

When I completed my survey yesterday, I had to give everything pretty high marks, but I don't think we will ever sail on her again. Just a bit too big, a bit too modern and white, nothing but strange photographic art, and not one of the old comfortable ships we are used to.

Did you two try the "Uitsmijter" for breakfast in the Dutch Cafe?

Copper, does it have anything to do with Nutella and chocolate sprinkles? If so, then no we did not... We had croquettes, and a delicious grilled ham and cheese (called a tosti? ), and herring, and we watched many other things being eaten, mainly full of cream. I still can't believe the amount of food that must have been consumed on that ship! There are not enough hours in the day to fit everything in.

There were lovely snack items in the Culinary Arts Centre, too. One evening we went with friends and had a sort of tapas dinner. Happy hour was from 4 to 6, so it worked out perfectly.

Just a few more ship' pictures and then I'll get on to the important stuff - food!

This is how they advertised the evening activities - also there were numerous Happy Hours around the ship. Joel, the piano man, played in the Ocean Bar, which was beside the Pinnacle Bar on deck 3, but most of the entertainment was on deck 2.

The casino on deck 3 had the most beautiful staircase leading down to Billboard Onboard. I went there just to climb it!

And the staircase in the Atrium was closed off until the day before we landed - they were installing a central railing - maybe there had been a problem with people saying they couldn't reach the handrail.
