Chic Night Dress Code

We’ll be on the SilhouetteFeb 25th. For dining, I’m planning very nice dresses and my hubs is planning dress slacks and button down the front shirts, maybe a sport coat. We don’t plan to bring any jeans. Are we going to be too dressy.

We're on the same cruise, my DH is taking a sports coat, dress shirt & tie. For smart casual nights he will be wearing island shirts. I'm taking a cocktail dress, silky capris and tops for smart casual nights. I usually wear a sun dress during the day. You won't be too dressy.

Then this article in Business Insider entitled Here's how often you should wash your jeans might shock you. http://www.businessinsider.com/how-often-you-should-wash-jeans-2016-3 If you don't want to read the whole article the conclusion is:

So, after all of this, how often should you really wash your jeans?

Basically, when they smell — no sooner and no longer. Depending on how much you sweat, how often you wear them in a week, and how dirty the area you live in is, that could be once every two to six months.

I'm 59 and have my body fat down to 7%. So I wash my jeans every time I shower on the cruise. Once a week.

I can honestly say that I've never seen the "butt police" checking the rear pockets to determine the make or designer of jeans. Therefore, take it to mean nice, clean and unwrinkled jeans. There will be those with opinions, but it's been my experience that the only place those will be aired is on these forums.

I think your spot on - designer is subjective in my opinion.

Thanks. I think we’ll be doing much the same.

Do men and women ever wear dressy shorts and dressier tops in the evening on Celebrity? I mean long shorts, not short shorts. Lol. Not to dinner, but otherwise. We wore them on Norwegian in the casino and bars, etc. in the evening.

Yes, there's no prohibition other than in the dining rooms.

Thank you. I was thinking wearing them in general. Maybe capris and a nicer top more for the other nights, not chic nights. I didn’t make that very clear.

Wife wears them all the time, last few cruises we have been in Luminae and Aqua so smart casual all the time. Don't think there is any prohibition of capris in the MDR even on evening chic nights.

You're welcome. I can't take these constant threads about dress codes that have proliferated since the advent of Evening Chic and the endless debates, so I need to inject them with a bit of humor every now and then. Nice to hear it's been appreciated!:D

So Evening Chic for men says: "Pants or designer jeans". This is in contrast to casual nights which says: "Pants or jeans".

I have what I would call jeans, but have no idea whether they qualify as designer jeans. What is the difference?

PS: I'm a 66 year old grey headed guy. I don't want to be wearing jeans with holes in them or ones that show my boxers. ;)

Wear what you want.

My DH will be in tux and I will wear my long dresses on Chic Nights

The other nights hubby wears short sleeved silk shirts and pants and I wear cocktail dresses

We would not dream of taking jeans on a cruise - no matter how designer they were - maybe its an age thing for us (60)but I know my son in laws would also not do.

It may also be a British thing - we do like to dress up and we always dress for dinner in a nice restaurant so the cruise is no different.

The only time we very casually dress down is on our villa holidays and even then we opt for me -pretty summer dress and hubby - dress shorts or pants with a shirt if we are eating out.

Not sure if this helps the OP but it gives a point of view.

I also don't care if others don't dress up - I would always prefer to be over dressed than under.

It's so strange that people still feel the need to justify what they wear. Celebrity has no dress code any more so each person is entitled to wear whatever they like. Isn't that enough?

Well said Ma Bell, it is truly amazing how much discussion dress codes still get!

Yeah, it's weird. The dress code war has been fought and won but some people want to keep it going. Ah well. It's all sweet once you are on board.

Even those of us who may think the battle has been lost are sick of hearing about it. It is what it is.
