Cafe Al Bacio ?

One of the Elite Plus benefits was free special (non-alcohol) coffees. So when we got it, I think I was having 1/2 dozen cappuccinos a day! Goes without saying I had a bit of a jag all day. What a great bene!! Our cruising friends were one cruise behind us getting that level so I enjoyed one cruise of sipping away and making a big deal of it....yes, I’m a bit of a bore!

As to vacating the El Bacio table after finishing your drink/snack, I’m afraid this is a great place to read and play cards and socializ, so many people (including me) do not just go there for the coffee/food. Of course we enjoy the coffee/snacks, but we don’t have a 1/2 empty cup in front of us all the time. Lots of people sitting in the window seats reading and enjoying. I’m not bothered by taking the space up since you can order takeaways and there are places to take it all over the ship. El Bacio isn’t a dining venue, its another common area we all can enjoy.

The word is that they looked better than they tasted. People would order them, take a bite, and then dispose of it.

That is same for desserts all over ship, some fabulous and others no good. My last blueberry muffin on departure had only one blueberry!

Take advantage of them...yes, they are free!! Cafe al Bacio was one of our favorite places! A good place to hang out at any time during the day if you have a drink package...who doesn't have a desire for another latte?!

Well I hope that if people see people waiting to sit to enjoy their coffee and cake you would vacate the tables for others. You have the card room for playing cards reading etc. Gee some people do not consider others.

Elite level does pay for specialized coffee, Elite + does not. Of course if you have a drink Package, you would not pay according to the pricing. We’ve had the Classic Package and did not pay for any Cafe al Bacio drinks.

Only 6 weeks to go for my Cafe Mochas!!!

Actually, on M-class there is no card room because they converted it into the elevated table and chair service area of the expanded Cafe al Bacio; perhaps card playing there is divine retribution!

Yes Larry, there isn’t a card room to ‘vacate’ to. And there are other places to go to, but as they are all in common areas, I’m sure there is someone who’d want us to vacate that place so they can have the table we are using.

I suggest that instead of sitting around (or standing around) timing how long people are sitting, and checking if they have something in their coffee cup and a cookie only half eaten on their plate at a table you you think should be yours, go up, order your coffee and snack and go sit where you think others should go to.

It really isn’t any of people’s business if others are socializing, playing cards, reading or just zoning out in common areas. It’s not their call to decide what others do. Each common area has a special name and a focus on what it provides. El Bacio is Not a Dining area, it is a popular place to meet and enjoy, play cards, socialize and relax.

Do you go around timing how long people sit in choice lounges around the pool reading and relaxing? Do you go up and tell people they’ve been sitting in the bar seat you want and tell them they’ve been there too long and haven’t ordered enough drinks to deserve to be there?

Give it a break.

First, it's "Café al Bacio", not "El Bacio".

Secondly, a café is a dining area, a type of restaurant which usually serves coffee and snacks, occasionally light meals.

You appear to be trying to paint a picture of what you would like it to be, rather than what it is: a café.

You are right on all counts and I plan to order coffees and snacks there, and sit w friends and socialize and play cards. But I probably won’t be doing that until at least 2020. So you don’t have to worry abou5 me taking up a table there for a little while.

This type of pointless discussion is why I quit posting for an extended time.

In my opinion Café Al Bacio is probably intended for coffee and tea drinkers as there is a table service. If it is not possible to find a table, it is not possible to order. There is a walk up takeaway service, but not available for a pot of tea, or certain of the coffee options. If everyone was just socialising, what would the wait staff do?

Thank you, you read my mind. There have been times when I wanted to sit and enjoy a pot of tea and a piece of cake at the cafe. However there were no available seats due to people socializing or playing cards long after they'd finished their drinks. Tea in a take out cup just isn't the same. Have some consideration for other passengers if it's busy.

Agree 100%. As a former tour bus driver I repeatly witnessed people chair hogging during the morning breakfast at hotels. Breakfast area seats about 40 or so. Early risers have had their breakfast yet continue to occupy the space while others are forced to stand and eat. Yes you do have a right to occupy the space but being considerate makes the world a better place.

I agree. And trust me, specialty coffee in a takeaway cup isn’t the same either. DH and I would like to enjoy our coffee/tea and sweets in Cafe al Bacio twice per day, though we’re sometimes unable to find a table. Unless service is quite slow, we’re never there more than 30 - 45 minutes, at which time we’re happy to let the next lot have a place to sit. IMO when the Cafe is packed, singles or couples with 4-tops should offer the open seats to others. We follow this practice, and have seen some others doing the same.
