change of internet benefit for diamond and diamond plus

Recommended Posts

Same here, but having the flexibility to get a coke, etc. in addition to a beer & wine is good. Bought a diet coke for my wife after the happy hour and with a $1 tip it cost me over $5.;p

Wonder if anyone has a inventory of benefits accrued by tier say 10-15 years ago vs. today's offerings.

Good question. Of course the value of the benefits is subjective. If you are a drinker there is a lot of value in diamond hour and the three vouchers. Just using the 3 vouchers each for a couple is at least $50 per evening in value and probably more if you drink liquor. That is $350+ for a week but some drink much more than that so even more value. But some buy the drink package making the diamond hours irrelevant for them in terms of value.

The internet is a good perk too. Particularly at diamond plus level. For a couple you can get 4/7 days of internet which is enough for many people.

These perks didn’t exist before.

Some perks are gone however but in total I think they are still great perks.

The only D+ perks we use are the free photos and lounge access so we are happy.

I just got off the Anthem yesterday. I am Diamond Plus and was told by Guest Services that I had to buy a discounted package in order to use the Internet. I went up to the Concierge Lounge and the Concierge said it was not true. He called down to Guest Services and said for them to stop telling people this. Apparentlly, there was a communication to staff about this new policy, but, at least for now, they have backed off. I received my free two 24-hour access.

Just curious, what was your reason for talking to guest services about this? Were your discounts not showing when you signed up?

The free coupons were listsed on the sheet that was in my cabin, but I could not remember how to set it up a few days later when I wanted to use one of them, so I went to Guest Services for assistance. That's when they told me I had to pay, even after I told them of the information on the sheet. If I had remembered to just open a browser, I would have seen the options available to me - "free with coupon", but I had not remembered that. The next person I met with was very helpful.

So is it safe to say that Diamond and Diamond Plus still have their on day/two day free internet perk?

As much as I dislike perks being taken away, they should at least honor those that have already booked or paid their curies vacation in full.

Sorry to say but there's no reason the be loyal to Royal when little things like this are taken away.

As far as I know, those perks are still there. The Concierge was not thrilled with my mention of Cruise Critic (I said I had read about this issue here) and said not to listen to Cruise Critic. A gentleman came up and told him that CC is a valuable source of information, especially when there seem to be communications gaps at Royal Caribbean. I encourage all who may face this on future cruises to voice their objections at the time and not wait until after the cruise.

You don't use the D+ balcony discount? To me that's the best perk of all. I save hundreds on my cruises.

Sad to say the balcony discount for Diamond Plus used to be good, now with all their so called sales my balcony discount is almost worthless. Example mocked booked two different cruises using my C&A number then without, one cruise with my balcony discount was $50 less then a first time cruiser, the other $36 less, should have been $250 less. Another benefit slowly being eliminated.

Not as special as it used to be on some of these sales. Booked Harmony OTS for Easter week 2020 and if I did not use the D+ balcony discount ($250) you still got a RIF credit of $200 for a net difference of $50.

just curious. is Luara Baska still the Diamond Concierge on Anthem? When we did a b2b in Dec. we had some stupid communication problems with one of the officers at shore ex. and Luara handled it beautifully. She is a very competent person and was a pleasure to do buisness with. sailing on May 31. hope she is still there. Thank you, Watson 50

I believe she is the Loyalty Ambassador on the Grandeur.

We just got off the Freedom a few weeks ago and the Internet perk for D+ was there. We're sailing on the Harmony 6/2 so I guess it's a wait and see. To be honest we have been sailing on their competitive lines for a change of paste and now I'll glad we booked ahead on Celebrity, NCL, and even (yes) Carnival. It seems like why not? Not much of any enticement to stay loyal with Royal anymore and their competition is right up there with them including a couple (Celebrity/Princess) surpassing them.

We're Diamond Plus and when we have a problem on board we usually go to the Loyalty Ambassador. He/she quickly resolves the issue.

If he doesn't book balconies then he has probably saved even more than you have with the discounts.
My mistake i was only thinking about when we are onboard.

We always book at least a balcony and use the balcony discount but the obc deals are not combinable in the UK with balcony discounts.

At least on Oasis class, the happy hour has been extended to specialty restaurants and the MDR.

Can you please tell me a bit more about the happy hour in specialty restaurants and MDR. We will be on Oasis for the first time next month and are diamond.

Thank you.

IMHO, over the years, the D benefits have improved. I remember that only wine and soda and some nuts was available in the D lounge and beer, etc was at a cost.

On Allure last week, the DL, at least from 4:30-6:00pm, was basically empty. If it wasn't for kids being allowed in, it would have looked like a ghost town.

From as a shareholder viewpoint, I liked what I saw. Next cruise staff was so busy that I could not get any decent time. On last night they were open past 9PM. They even had a rep. in the D lounge to assist those looking to book cruises-very smart on their part.

The casinos, bars, photo, tours, etc were quite active & busy. On one of our tours to Kim Sha Beach in Simpson Bay (St Marten) had 5 busses full, and the dock was like a zoo with all of the Paxs waiting on their tours.

We are going on Oasis for the first time next month and are diamond. Can you further explain

Was that through 8 PM or did it go through or into Second Seating dinner?

You can get the three drinks that are on your sea pass in the MDR during the happy hour hours. On other ships, you have to get the drinks elsewhere and carry them to the MDR. If arriving close to the cut off time, you can order all three drinks at once.
