caribill Posted August 28, 2018 #626 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Currently on the Caribbean Princess, Aloha deck. Medallion opens our cabin 2 feet before we get to the door. Nothing else special. Does it also unlock it if you are inside the cabin but near the door?
Vegastime Posted August 28, 2018 #627 Share Posted August 28, 2018 So you don't have to tap it on the plate? You do not. As you get near the door, it unlocks automatically. We are on Baja deck, and the medallions were in our cabin this evening.
satxdiver Posted August 28, 2018 #628 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Appears as though the CB is rolling out the ***** deck by deck. We will be on the CB in November staying on the Explorer deck aft. Perhaps we will be lucky to also get an ***** to try out. Whether we do or don't will not lessen the adventure on the ship.
Rare trbarton Posted August 28, 2018 #629 Share Posted August 28, 2018 I’m going to be on the Majestic on March 26, 2019. Anyone know the status of the Ocean Medallion on the Majestic? Thanks! Tom🤔

Anyone know the status of the Ocean Medallion on the Majestic?🤔 The Majestic has never appeared on any lists of ships likely to receive it - maybe because the ***** is not a great fit for the Chinese market/culture. The ship may have been fitted with the wiring but nothing has been said.

Rare dides Posted August 28, 2018 #632 Share Posted August 28, 2018 I was only trying to point our that passengers on the Regal (number unknown but did not matter) posted here they did receive OMs, where as on the CB only crew had OMs at the same time. I know everyone is splitting hairs, but so many times here the statement kept being made that only the CB had ***** work being done which was not the case. If you go back into the June/July time frame on this thread, you will find several posts indication no work was being done on the Regal until it got back across the pond in September. Shortly after CC members indicated they had just gotten off the Regal and had an *****. I think the message was that there was not going to be any work on Regal to roll out ***** further while she was in Europe - those staterooms in the existing pilot group would continue to receive *****. idahospud Posted August 28, 2018 #634 Share Posted August 28, 2018 You do not. As you get near the door, it unlocks automatically. We are on Baja deck, and the medallions were in our cabin this evening. I had a one-on-one with John Padgett, the guy running the project, on embarkation day. He shared that by default the distance is six feet. If you would prefer a shorter or longer distance it can be programmed for your particular door. Doesn't anyone else find all this a bit silly...considering we are talking about opening a door! Years ago when they had real keys they always worked fine. Cruise cards also work fine and we have found, to our amazement, that we are capable of swiping a card or, OH MY GOSH, actually having to insert it into a lock! I was told during initial integration the six foot range proved to be problematic. It was indicated the sweet spot was closer to 1.5 in the mid June time frame. Others have been reporting actual experience at two feet and I believe someone got the same two foot range in their ***** briefing.

Yet there were reports of work done going back to June. May not be adding rooms, as reports from the Regal are thin, but integration and support is on going. This is a far cry from "nothing being done until in returns in September".

But yes, they are still playing with the distance. They've already changed it for our cabin. It seems to be dependent on the specific person's Medallion, too. Hubby has a longer distance than I do. Definitely not two feet.
voljeep Posted August 28, 2018 #640 Share Posted August 28, 2018 the opening of the cabin door is prolly the least "valuable" of all the ***** 'perks' when finally operational to Princess the most important, at least my opinion, for Princess was for passengers to spend money easier... real gambling from your device without going to the smoky casino ease of ordering drinks without leaving your primo seat without waiting for someone to take your order and bring it back and of course, ordering goggles you forgot without leaving the pool !!! ;p

megs1954 Posted August 28, 2018 #643 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Recently off the Regal and had an ***** cabin. The screen began to recognize me about 8 feet from the cabin. It did not open the door at 8 feet from the cabin. Until I approached right at the door, the symbol of the door opening on the screen did not happen and the light was still red. Even if the door unlocked itself at 6 feet, I do not see this as an issue. People don’t actually lurk around waiting for someone to walk nearby so they can race into the cabin ahead of the cabin resident. I found that more often than not, the cabin door did not smoothly unlock and open. I had to stand in front of the door for a number of seconds before it went through its full process and the green light came on. A number of times I had to place the medallion or the card up against the screen. I was always able to get it to my cabin. The few times it worked perfectly, I was surprised. latserrof Posted August 28, 2018 #644 Share Posted August 28, 2018 The door-unlocking function was a solution without a problem -- until it created its own problems. It's clearly there to encourage/require passengers to carry the medallion so Princess can sell you stuff and mine your data.

I am so with you on that one. Two coffees alone are trouble. If a plate is involved, I take a tray. Still, I'm looking forward to the medallion to help out. Yep, you got me there. That certainly justifies millions of dollars of investment, a completely failed roll-out, many unhappy cruisers demanding compensation, etc. But no, I would not get a plate of food and 2 coffees (DW is a tea drinker) but might actually order room service :).
