Did princess give away your room

Did you or your TA have your booking marked as no upgrade?

you have to 'opt in' to the no upgrade option, as the default is to allow ugrades

Only problem is "do not upgrade" is a request. One they are not required to pay any attention to...if they want your cabin, they'll take it. They won't throw you off the ship, but you won't necessarily be in the cabin you booked.

Yes, once Princess threw me under the bus. We got upgraded from a balcony cabin to a full suite.

I didn't complain and kept it a secret from my wife.

If you don't want any upgrades, have your TA or Princess denote on your reservation that you don't want any upgrades.

Had booked l301 for Nov 1 ,out of new York, just found out I was changed to a better cabon l235, has princess ever threw you under the bus. Booked 301, a year and a half ago, didn't want upgrades, just curious

Did it to us last year. Had a nice balcony and they moved us to what they decided was a better one but we didnt want it.

Had TA contact Princess as soon as we found out and they moved us back.

Do not want to tell them no upgrades as we have gotten ones that we thought were good.

Thanks for that giggle!

i was under a similar bus as gatour. booked an inside, got a balcony.

on my next cruise coming up, i was moved from interior to obstructed view--very obstructed view. there were still cabins available in my new category so i just switched to one less obstructed. (thank you theo! aka cabinview by renmar)

occasionally you do get upgraded somewhere you don't want. i hope you can get your old cabin back if you aren't happy.

I'm not sure what cabin the OP had and what cabin the OP got. If it's L301 and L235, they're the same category of cabin on the Regal. I've never known Princess to make a lateral move of someone from one cabin to another within the same category. It has always been an upgrade to a higher category.

In answer to the title question ...Yes Princess did "give" my room away after final payment...I was E731 and they took it away from me....without even notifying me...and another time they took a cabin away from me, this one was marked do not upgrade but they did.... so yes, it does happened....

If those are the cabins, L301 has a larger balcony than L235 per the diagram in the Cruise Atlas.

Both being BC, it is not an upgrade and so marking the reservation "do not upgrade" would not have applied here. We need an option "do not move me in same category."

Now that really would have p****d me off!! That's my favorite cabin.:mad:

On our Trans Atlantic last year Princess "gave us an upgrade". They moved us two cabins up the hallway on the same deck. Was a surprise in two ways. Did have a do not not upgrade on file.

The big surprise was, we were next door to my Wife's sister and her husband. Go figure.

Yes, this happened to us a few years ago on the former Ocean Princess for a British Isles cruise. They "upgraded" us from the inside that we and our TA had picked out to an obstructed view. I only found out because I saw the different cabin in the personalizer.

I called our TA and he checked the location and it was right under the casino lounge. I did not want that as we want cabins both above and below us, not noisy bars. Our TA could not get our original cabin back, but after spending much of an afternoon on the phone with Princess, got us back very near where we had originally been booked.

He said he never got the e-mail from Princess informing him that they were moving us; they said they sent it.

I guess anything could happen when it comes down to it but:

- if you mark your cabin 'no upgrade', they shouldn't be moving you out of the cabin you chose.

- if you mark your cabin 'any upgrade', which is their default (when they don't ask you or if you don't request it), this is when you can get moved to a less desirable cabin ... but maybe, just maybe, you might get a good upgrade.

- if you mark your cabin 'meta upgrade only', you may (it's rare, though) get a cabin to only the next super category, meaning inside to OV or better, OV to balcony or better, balcony to mini-suite or better, mini-suite to a full suite.

This is the option we've always chosen and once we got an upgrade from an inside to an obstructed OV, which really had very little obstruction so we felt as though it was a true upgrade. I received a phone call the morning before the cruise and was asked if I wanted it. I took it and was glad I did. But, in 2 dozen sailings on Princess, this was the only time I was actually upgraded. A couple of times I booked a guaranteed room and never got any decent cabins so now I always choose a specific room and make sure the cabin is marked with 'meta upgrade only'!

We were 'upgraded' from deck 14 down to deck 9 on a prior cruise.....Princess said it was a higher category. Sorry, I prefer the higher deck. We had our Princess cruise planner indicate 'no upgrades' on our profile and we've been happy since.

I am hearing that Princess no longer has the Meta Upgrade...

Either upgrade, or not.

And, yes, those upper deck cabins are a slightly lower category than an equivalent cabin on middle decks.

So, that is a good point... If you do want that upper deck. (possibly more motion) to be up near the pools, the higher view, etc... Then it is def. a good idea to mark NO Upgrade. I have been tempted to book a cabin, forward on upper decks, to be poolside!!! But, never have!

Yes, a cruise line CAN move you, if they feel they must... But, they shouldn't move a booking marked NO Upgrade, unless they really need to.

I recently contacted Princess to review my bookings and had all of them marked as META Upgrade only. Where did you hear that they are not doing that? Not being snarky, just curious. I also check my bookings every morning.

I had heard also (from two different reliable TAs) that they no longer ‘use’ the meta upgrade notes, although they may allow you to place the notation. One TA told me that they now sell all the meta upgrades in the upsell department instead of giving them away, so it sorta makes sense.

Yes, that's true about pushing upsells over upgrades, but here on CC you still hear of people getting true upgrades. I've had both, but my most recent was an upsell from a balcony to a mini for a 10 day cruise at $149 PP, I grabbed it!
