Carnival announcement expected 13 Nov 2018 (per John Heald)

Anyone have any hints as to what he is hinting at?  Sharing VIFP points across all Carnival Corp lines?  Sailings to Greenland and Iceland?  Enforced dress codes for true "formal nights" (not just "elegant night" any more), Yak rides on the Lido deck?

Think much more underwhelming than anything like this. I suspect room service breakfast expanded menu might be his big announcement. It is my dream that they make a true formal venue, but I think the trend is moving the other direction.  Sharing of VIFP points would be a good idea on their part as I am drifting away from Carnival, but their other brands would be more attractive to me if my points worked there.

My guess it is a change in tier plans!  Why? Why not!

Would not be surprised to see a new upper level Tier and some sort of timeframe to maintain a tier, not unlike <insert name here> Loyalty Program.

That's how Airlines, Hotels and Casinos work (for the most part - please don't throttle me with all of the exceptions). Unless you are a "Million Miler" at Delta, it's all about what have you done for me lately and your Tier for next year is based on what you did this year.

Ugh.  Not a chance.  That kind of program may work well for airlines and such whose primary customer is the business traveler who travels a lot, but that would never work for a cruise line whose primary customer is a vacation traveler.  Requiring even one cruise annually to maintain any sort of "status" would be untenable for the majority of customers, so most customers would lose their status and then any (minor) incentive to cruise Carnival the next time.  Cruise loyalty programs are about rewarding loyalty to the cruise line - i.e. the number of cruises you take.  That targets vacation customers well.  Airline programs are about how much money you've spent with the airline.  That targets business customers well.  Those per dollar rewards clubs will never work with vacation customers who pay for their cruise out of their own pockets.  A change to a per dollar club could only hurt Carnival.

Here's what I'm hoping for. The balcony doors will all be equipped with sensors that will record each time someone allows their balcony door to slam shut. The first time it happens, the occupant(s) will receive a letter asking that they kindly not allow this to happen. After the second offense, they will receive a letter stating that if this occurs one more time, the balcony door will be automatically locked, and that they will not have access to their balcony for the duration of the cruise, and that there will be NO compensation (financially or otherwise) for this. In addition, there will be a call button on the balcony to contact Security that someone has been locked out on their balcony.

If we are talking about the highly unlikely, I hope part of the announcement is all casinos will be smoke free. Now that I just typed that, maybe it isn’t a good idea. There is no doubt the smoke in the casinos saves me thousands of dollars every year.

I don’t see this ever happening.  Carnival falls into the budget category of cruise lines. It wouldn’t make sense to allow status earned on Carnival to apply to more expensive cruise lines that fall under the Carnival umbrella.

I think it is a fantastic idea to do this, to a point. If you get Platinum/Diamond, it should at least count SOMETHING to their other brands. Maybe not match point for point, but you shouldn't start at the bottom. It might give an incentive that would start getting that customer to spend more, and keep their business in house. If played right, this could be a boost to their premium lines. People who earn D/P are Platinum have the money. Don't think they are any less important because they sail Carnival.

Personally, if I had to guess, I think VIFP is getting an overhaul. I think they will increase benefits for red and gold, but raise the number of nights needed for platinum.

If those sensors could also record each time one of my children locks the other out of the balcony, it would be awesome.  On the third offense, the offending child has to wash dishes and/or clean toilets.

I am all for Carnival adding a Cruise Port here in Cleveland! That would be GREAT NEWS!! Then I can finally do a B2B and do more than 1 cruise a year?!

I agree, but first Carnival (or someone) would have to dig a large canal from Lake Erie to the Atlantic Ocean. That alone brings up a whole bunch of questions. Who would pay for it? Would it be dug through Canada, the U.S.,  or directly on the border as a joint venture? What happens to Lake Erie and the other connecting Great Lakes? Will they become saltwater lakes instead of freshwater? Lots of environmental issues to deal with. Maybe a simpler approach would be to build a high speed rail system from Cleveland to NYC with a stopping point near the Port of New York.

Rumor has it they will construct an underwater tunnel from Lake Lake to the Atlantic. This rumor comes from my barber who heard it from his butcher whose uncle works cleaning cabins on Carnival so we know it is correct.

Don't you mean "underground"?  A cruise ship can go underwater (once),  but getting it back up to the surface would be quite an undertaking. Considering the size of Carnival's ships, that's going to be one monstrously huge tunnel.

I forgot one detail. Their next series of ships will have a covering allowing them to go underwater. The reason this will be Brilliant is that the tunnel will be big enough to accomplish these ships.

There has been a rumor going around that Carnival is planning to add submarines to the fleet. That would certainly add believability  to the rumor you heard.

The Panorama is going to have the space with out the IMAX to make this an actual possibility. Plus it's going to be sailing out of California, which means it's really close to me... Which is not good news for my budget.

 Or Glass bottom Cruise Ships!

I know my wife wouldn't be a big fan, but I'd spend most of my time watching everything go by.
That would especially be cool for Alaskan cruises! Whale watching under water!
