Smoking is such a nuisance on cruise ships

Lucky you didn't get caught, because Celebrity's casinos are non-smoking.

Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, casino, theater, lounge, hallway, elevator, or corridor. Celebrity Cruises' Smoking Policy includes smoking-like products such as electronic cigarettes. Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom, nor on any stateroom veranda.

I wasn't sneaking as I saw other people lighting up and they had ashtrays.

I, along with others, did actually smoke in the casino on the Celebrity Summit this past June. Unless the policy has changed in the past five months, your statement is invalid.

I have never seen anyone smoking in any Celebrity casino.  Not sure how you did it on Summit.  Glad that I wasn't there.

wow I remember that...had a big non smoking sign painted on the side of it.

Yes, I remember that ship too. I was a smoker back then, so I would never have sailed on it. Now I would be the first to reserve a cabin. However, I am not sure the cruise line would do better making their ships non smoking. I personally would love to see the casino smoke free. Even when I was a smoker I hated going into a casino, because they were always so smokey. (but I love to gamble)I was always the polite smoker, who would go off somewhere that was free of others. I think NCL can do a better job with their smoking rules, but I will still sail with them

If I remember the ship failed because the revenue wasn't there without the smokers.

My last cruise I was enjoying my forward cabin balcony and I smelt smoke so I got up to look and sure enough there was a man 3 cabins forward and one floor down smoking on his balcony. He saw me and quickly went inside.

My thought was, if you are going to smoke and not follow rules, why would you get a forward cabin and why would you stand at the railing? Anyway,

I really wish that NCL would make smokers a nice enclosed lounge in the casino with a bar and some slot machines.

I like the idea of the closed in room, or outdoors only. As a lover of the Norwegian Dawn, it saddens me that I can't enjoy Gatsby's in the evening because of the stench of the casino. Even walking by is disgusting. Maybe the answer is not to put the casino on the same floor as eating/drinking/entertainment areas? I don't know. The smoking outside really doesn't bother me, but inside it's awful.

I think the poster was trying to pull our legs.  I emailed Celebrity yesterday and here is the respons I received:

We have absolutely NOT changed our smoking policy in our Casinos. I am not sure what this person is talking about. I have double checked with our team and the ship and we have not only NOT changed our policy, we strictly enforce our no smoking policy on board our ships.

We have not allowed smoking in our Casinos since we introduced Celebrity Solstice in 2008.

All my best,

Llp.....

If this is true you violated policy and infringed on the rights of others

Just off the Bliss and had no smoke issues. I think the main reason for this is the casino has a sealed off smoking area and the rest of the casino is non-smoking. And it's a great ship!

That is a great feature on the Bliss, among the many other great things about it!

I am fortunate enough to live in New York State where I almost NEVER have to encounter cigarette smoke anymore. I work on an entirely tobacco free college campus (students and staff aren't even allowed to smoke inside their cars in the parking lot) and I live in a condo complex that has completely banned outdoor smoking. And, of course, smoking in bars and restaurants (and any place that has employees) has been banned for years here.

It's definitely jarring to be exposed to so much smoke on cruise ships. It's unfortunate to have to avoid certain areas of the ship. I love to gamble and I am soooo looking forward to my upcoming Bliss sailing in February when I can actually spend a few hours in the casino and not come back to my stateroom smelling like a human ashtray. I have been lucky in that on my three sailings thus far, I have not had to deal with second-hand smoke on any of my balconies. It's a bit discouraging that NCL's response to incidents of smoking on balconies seems to be so inconsistent. I'd like to think that if/when I encounter that situation, I will be able to report it and get a prompt response.

I think that the time has come for the cruise lines that have large fleets, to run another test, perhaps on a smaller, Florida based ship, where there are multi choices, of a totally nonsmoking ship...

If it still doesn't succeed financially, then they can cancel the experiment.

In the meantime, I think that they should design ships in a way that indoor smoking area's are fully contained, with no smoke escaping into non smoking area's.   The Breakaway class is poorly designed in that regard, both inside and outside....

The open 3 deck atrium around the casino, in the center of everything, is designed to lure in 'contributor's'.  The smoker's area near Malting's Bar, both inside, and on the Boardwalk permeates that area, as well.   The area around the pool and Spice are also an annoyance, but since outdoors, not quite as bad...

Non smoker here, but reading some of these comments about smoke etc..I'm not sure how you make it through the day.

Like I said. I am spoiled by living in a state and community that makes it almost impossible for me to encounter second-hand smoke in my daily life.

I concur just got off the breakaway, the key phrase here "permeates"  I could not stay in h2O even though everyone was having fun, some like me are more sensitive to smoke than others.  I disagree with those that say" "stay home then" this smoking is violating my civil rights.

As a smoker, I would love to see this.  Take half the fleet if you want.

I agree they should also try a totally smoking ship and see what the response is.

Not sure what part of NYS you live in but it sounds draconian. What's next slapping donuts out of fat people hands?

Smoking used to be allowed EVERYWHERE....in airplanes, in stores...even in HOSPITALS!   Yes, in today's society, smoking is annoying, but when everyone (or so it seemed) was doing it,  it was tolerated.  In some places, it's still allowed, in clubs and bars!

If smokers stuck to the "allowed" areas, non-smokers could avoid them much better!

trouble is like on the breakaway, the smokers have all the best areas of the ship, im talking outside, we all know about the casinos smokers paradise, but outside on the breakaway the best places belong to smokers
