Rare BirdTravels Posted December 3, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 3, 2018 Prob juggling short cruises. Sun was just refirbed. Market did not support two ships doing short cruises. People wanted longer trips.
Screwzer Posted December 3, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 3, 2018 Any idea when their 2019 fall winter 2020 spring summer itineraries will be posted? Suppose Sky will continue the predictable 3 day 4 day runs but Sun has been doing long cruises.
newmexicoNita Posted December 3, 2018 #4 Share Posted December 3, 2018 There would be no reason to think either is going to leave the fleet, especially the Sun If for no other reason they just came out of dry dock about 6 months ago.

In the past, i noticed the Fall itinerary is usually posted with a press released around December 15 or so
chengkp75 Posted December 3, 2018 #6 Share Posted December 3, 2018 Just to clarify, saying that a recent dry docking precludes a potential sale is incorrect. Regardless of whether the ship is up for sale or not, statutory dry dock inspections must be kept up, or no buyer would take the ship, as there would not be a "certificate of class" (insurance underwriting), or a "certificate of registry" (think of your car's registry), neither of which the ship can sail without.
casofilia Posted December 3, 2018 #7 Share Posted December 3, 2018 Possibly juggling the ships onto short cruises, especially sorting out trips to Cuba.
softl Posted December 3, 2018 #8 Share Posted December 3, 2018 I'm booked on the Sun to Cuba in April....
SaintL Posted December 3, 2018 #9 Share Posted December 3, 2018 Wouldn't be surprised for the Sky, its been for sale before with Pullmantur backing out of it and then is when she was put into the 3/4 market after being the Aloha.
SailBreakaway Posted December 3, 2018 #10 Share Posted December 3, 2018 The Sun not only underwent required and preventative maintenance but it received significant hotel refurbishment, upgrade, and retrofit to new and current NCL product standards. I believe when Leonardo class comes to fruition you will see Spirit, Sun, Sky, and eventually Dawn retired. Right now NCL benefits from any and all available capacity. They won’t park anything as it would decrease our bottom line.
myjillian Posted December 3, 2018 #11 Share Posted December 3, 2018 We sailed on the Sun to Cuba about a month ago. The ship looks great and the crew were better than great. This was our 3rd sailing on the Sun...hopefully she will stay...bigger is not always better.😃
buggins0402 Posted December 4, 2018 #12 Share Posted December 4, 2018 How might the unexpected increase in NCL capacity in the Western Hemisphere markets caused by the reimagined Joy impact decisions?
RunBikeCruiseDC Posted December 4, 2018 #13 Share Posted December 4, 2018 I hope they keep some shorter cruises. We did two 7 days in 2018, the only way we will be able to cruise next year would be shorter ones. I wish they would bring a small ship to Port of Baltimore!

I was aboard the Dawn a couple of years ago on a repo cruise from Quebec to Tampa that called at Baltimore for the day...a great port of call, and it would be nice to see the Dawn sent there...she would be nicer than the Carnival and RCI ships that are currently homeported there, IMHO.... I was looking at that but couldn't figure out if drinks are included. It didn't say open bar but when I clicked on it one of the perks was premium bar package with gratuities of only $28pp which tells me maybe the basic drinks are included. mugtech Posted December 4, 2018 #16 Share Posted December 4, 2018 I believe the Star is taking over the South American cruises as it is going through the canal to Chile. Perhaps the Sun will do Cuba December going forward.
havanadaydreaming Posted December 5, 2018 #17 Share Posted December 5, 2018 just off ncl cruise, read Sky is getting refurbished or upgraded Feb 2019. we sailed on it Feb...had a fun trip. i like the tiny ships on occasion
Alegeeter Posted December 5, 2018 #18 Share Posted December 5, 2018 Looks like there's no Sky trips scheduled from January 22 to February 8, 2019. Wonder what enhancements the Sky will get - Edge treatment or just standard cleanings?

Busy Barge Posted March 29, 2019 Author #21 Share Posted March 29, 2019 (edited) They now have sailings through November 2019 but nothing beyond. Don't think they are going anywhere but Sun is not doing long cruises anymore. Too bad. Edited March 29, 2019 by Barge Master

Is it normal for the Sun & Sky to not have anything out more then 8 months out? Most cruises are bookable 2+ years in advance.

I don't think it's normal as most cruises are posted somewhere between 18 to 24 months prior to sailing.

cruisetimeforme Posted March 31, 2019 #25 Share Posted March 31, 2019 The Sky came into Nassau on Fri. 3/29 at around 7 pm. We pulled away from the dock, on the Bliss, and waited for it to clear the channel before we left port.
