Butterbean1000 Posted October 19, 2019 #3 Share Posted October 19, 2019 I don't sail for the gifts. They don't have to give you anything.
keywest1 Posted October 19, 2019 #4 Share Posted October 19, 2019 IMO, if that's the latest platinum gift, it's tacky. 2

I don’t think anyone sails for the “gifts”. But they are a term in their VIP program so yes, they have to give you something. ‘This luggage tag - to me - is incredibly tacky and worthless. Costs pennies if that on the dollars spent on many of the much nicer ones we’ve received over the years. If this is where this program is headed, they might as well just drop it. It’s not a keychain, it’s a luggage tag.
Bostwick girl Posted October 19, 2019 #8 Share Posted October 19, 2019 Personally I like it. Would put it on my carryon, not on my checked luggage as my only identifier.
lucy2mb Posted October 19, 2019 #9 Share Posted October 19, 2019 I got my lanyard the end of September and I used it every day. If I got the luggage tag, I would use it on my carry-on. My favorite thing about being Platinum is the 3 free bags of laundry per person. I appreciate it! 2
Rare Saint Greg Posted October 19, 2019 #10 Share Posted October 19, 2019 All of the sudden headphones and tervis tumblers don't look so bad do they? 9
GayleR Posted October 19, 2019 #11 Share Posted October 19, 2019 It's a gift. The number of platinums is only going to go up so of course the gifts are going to become "less desirable". They will most likely eliminate the gifts as some point. I don't see it as a big deal.

We use those 2 all the time. DH loves the headphones, he uses them with his computer so I don't have to hear all the stuff he listens to! I'm very thankful for those headphones. I use the Tervis and the metal tumbler a lot. We sail on several different lines, so I don't think I'll be using the luggage tag, but our grandkids will love them. We have 2 grands now, but will have 4 total in a few months, guess that's a good excuse to cruise for enough platinum gifts for all 4 of them, right?? Works for me! It looks like a kid thing or a girl thing. I just can't see a guy putting that on his suitcase. I think that'll be my first platinum gift. If the design were different maybe I'd use it. But I'll probably give that away. But it's funny I remember people complaining about headphones and backpacks...blankets. Now it's a little piece of plastic you could probably get at the dollar store. Edited October 19, 2019 by Saint Greg
richfret Posted October 19, 2019 #14 Share Posted October 19, 2019 The best VIP gift was a night light. I still have and use it. The luggage tag is .............................. OK and I will use it along with the dozen other luggage tags I have. Believe me, if you are VIP, you already have luggage tags. It's the thought that counts, however.
drafterdw Posted October 19, 2019 #15 Share Posted October 19, 2019 I was hoping for something along the lines of the Tervis, just turned Platinum. this will be our first gift but honestly have a bunch of luggage tags from different places so I will just throw into bag with the rest.

sgttami Posted October 19, 2019 #18 Share Posted October 19, 2019 These days I give all my Platinum, Premier and casino gifts to people I meet on the cruise. Even the gifts I like! They will only end up in a closet when I get home so I don't have to haul them home in the suitcase and someone on the cruise gets to enjoy a free gift. Usually first time cruisers want all the "stuff." LOL Win-Win..

Yes, they thought long and hard before issuing another platinum gift worth 50 cents. Not sure how much that counts ..... if for anything. Terrible ...... Crap like this is why people should sail multiple cruise lines and not be 100% dedicated to a line offering crap to its platinum guests which is essentially worthless. vicky3vicky Posted October 19, 2019 #20 Share Posted October 19, 2019 (edited) We should be receiving 3 of them, and I am excited to put them on my christmas tree! Carnival HAD to make cutbacks on the P/D gifts. From my understanding,, the cruise fare, with all that is included, is on the average, the "break even" point. Most P/Ds' who cruise help make a profit for Carnival, but more and more P/Ds' are people who cruise without spending an extra dime- and nothing wrong with that- but that does lead to more expensive gifts potentially causing a loss for the line. It seems they are now giving a "token" thank you, because the more expensive gifts are no longer pragmatic. As long as there is a bit of creativity and thoughtfullness in this token, I am happy. I think it would be fun if they were to have a contest for ideas for gifts, that mass produced would only cost a dollar or so. That would be nice. [ of course I already have 83 items on my list!] Edited October 19, 2019 by vicky3vicky misspelled mass
canes20 Posted October 19, 2019 #21 Share Posted October 19, 2019 Our 2 favorites. Use the cups every cruise and the cap is my personal favorite. We would not complain if there was not a gift but do appreciate the thought.

So I should stop cruising on Carnival because of their D&P gifts??? I cruise on Carnival because I like the atmosphere/vibe of their ships. My wife and I have had a great time on every Carnival cruise we have been on. I couldn’t care less about what gift I get on a cruise.
Rare Banditswife Posted October 20, 2019 #23 Share Posted October 20, 2019 It is a gift. I guess they have to cut costs somewhere. My favorite is the over the shoulder bag & the tumbler.
Rare BlerkOne Posted October 20, 2019 #24 Share Posted October 20, 2019 Once upon a time there were only a few thousand P/D cruisers. Now there are over a million. Do the math.
westview1 Posted October 20, 2019 #25 Share Posted October 20, 2019 We don't cruise for the gifts either, but the nightlight and tervis cups were the best ones we received. I would have to say the worst gift was the Crocs visor. Those things were terrible, we tried to turn them back in to guest services and they wouldn't take them. We ended up giving it to our granddaughter, she loved it.
