Plastic Water Bottles Being Replaced

I use refillable bottles (coolers) from home  and fill them with water - tap or carbonated. Works great.

They do not get warm or hot under the sun.

I used to swell on every cruise as well until I started buying the drink package and switched to bottled water.  They use a desalination process to filter the water.  Believe me or not, but I noticed a huge difference when I switched.

Yeah, that makes sense. I was more responding to the criticism of not just filling a reusable bottle in general. That's just not enough water for a full day IMO.

I couldn't imagine carrying around 10 bottles of water in port, that stuff's heavy. A couple cans I can handle.

 

What benefits are they taking away from the packages? Water is still included, just in a different receptacle. I know, just on Vision so far, I'm getting on Vision on Saturday

The only problem is there is no where to properly wash with hot water to sanitize.     My DH is immunosuppressant and is told by Dr. to avoid tap water that he should drink either filtered water (such as brita) or drink bottled water to avoid bacteria that can build up with refillable bottles.

Oh Please. Nothing but an excuse to try and justify spending money for bottled water. Bacteria. really? Yes, if you leave it open to the air with some water in it to contact bacteria. Water in a bottle does not leave bacteria in the bottle. Otherwise you are drinking bacteria aren't you! Want to wash it out. Washing is out is fine. Hot water and soap is available just about anywhere. Avoid tap water. Why? I worked for our city utility system for 10 years and the water sent to the homes is excellent. Safe and tastes good also. If what you say is correct we would have an epidemic wouldn't we. The only reason I would want to sanitize anything is if someone used it before me now I am going to use it.

I would do five minutes research on the internet about Brita or many other filters and bacteria in water.

 

Then I would find a new doctor.

Actually desalinated water from a reverse osmosis system has almost NO detectable sodium in it compared to many bottled waters..

The fact is plastic can be recycled as well. If they placed a deposit on plastic bottles there wouldn’t be a plastic bottle issue. But they don’t. Instead they bow to the Save the Planet peeps as it’s easier than being labeled.

All newer cruise ships use reverse osmosis for water filtering and in addition the public locations for drinking water, bars, buffet etc. Have an additional carbon filter. So all potable water on cruise ships are safe to drink. As you indicate. Reverse osmosis will remove sodium. That is a fact. You can filter sea water with one and drink it. Many bottled water companies add vitamins, nutrients and flavor. Others just bottle tap water.

Yes, I understand that.     His Transplant Doctor agrees that cruise ship water is probably safe to drink as long as their pipes are clean.       Sodium is not an issue as he is actually on a high sodium diet to retain fluids.    She wants him to stick to a decent bottled water whenever he can and does not want him using refillable water bottles.   

I personally hate plastic water bottles but enjoy the convenience of having 2 or 3 bottles with us like I said for excursions and beach days without having to pay $3+ for a bottle off the ship (we get them free on ship now).   

 

Maybe there is a better solution than water from a can that is not resealable.   I have not yet seen them in stores but I hear there is a paper water bottle that NCL has switched to on their ships.   I wonder if they are better than water in a can for travel purposes.

If you would like to argue this with his Transplant Doctor please feel free to call the Head of the Transplant Department at U of P.    The fact you are re-using any type of drinking glass / bottle and placing your mouth/lips to the bottle will cause bacteria to grow.     I will follow the instructions of his Transplant Doctor as she is an expert on immunosuppressant people and what Not to do.     refillable water bottles is definitely on the No list unless there is a dishwasher where I can sanitize every day/night.   Many articles online about how refillable bottles can have more bacteria than a dog dish, etc.  

All I am simply saying is there is a need for bottled water.    maybe there will be a solution better than plastic or refillable bottles.

Except that they thought they had clean water until it was discovered that they didn't. On that note, I drink tap water at home because it is perfectly safe where I live and when I'm on the ship, I opt for club soda in a glass (because I like the bubbles) or San Pellegrino in a glass bottle unless I'm taking a couple bottles for an excursion.

I myself drink tap water at home every day and drink the water on cruise ships but is my Dh that has restrictions due to being immunosuppressant and not worth the risk of getting an infection especially while on a cruise.  And getting the free water bottles from Dl and casino to take on excursions and for him to have in the cabin is nice and I hope there is something better than a can of water with other unnecessary ingredients that was mentioned on the initial post.

What study is this. That percentage is ridiculous. Nothing here indicates how long anything was in the bottle or how long the bottle was empty or if the bottle was closed. You can store water in a gallon jug for years. Open it take out some water and close it. No added bacteria at all. Want to be safe. Fill it and put one super small drop of chlorine in it. No more bacteria.

This was just the first one that popped up.  Again for a person who is immunosuppressant they cannot take the risk and use a refillable water bottle unless it is placed into a dishwasher and sanitizer everyday.   We are going to continue to listen to a highly rated Doctor of the transplant team.

I personally drink tap on and off the ship and my Dh will drink tap water on ships at meals but still has a need for bottled water.  He is required to drink a min of 100 ounces of water per day and drinking bottled water also helps him measure his fluid intake.

The average person may not have a problem using a refillable water while on a cruise ship but he cannot.

Also there is nothing to indicate WHICH bacteria was found.

Every once in a while you have to throw them a bone to keep them quiet for a few years.  Now they are switching from plastic shopping bags in the stores and supermarkets to paper and the state will be collecting 10 cents a bag.  Anything to balance the budget.  Naturally they are playing it up as going green,  Meanwhile they are just trying to get out of the red.

Will Smith's son started the company, and it's packaged practically in my backyard, in Glens Falls, NY.  Great water from the Adirondacks.  It's a company called JUST Water.

Currently onboard the Norwegian Encore. I’ve probably drank about 12 of these JUST waters in the past three days. I actually like it. Your hand also doesn’t get cold from holding it like a normal water bottle would.
