yoolykeme Posted January 28, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2020 I'm a Platinum cruiser, but have never bought a cruise retail, so I am at a loss here. NCL.com is advertising that all cruises are 30% off. Does this mean that they are going to take 30% off the advertised price, or do the stated prices reflect the discount? If it is the former, can you stack this with other promotions? thanks in advance.
Rare BirdTravels Posted January 28, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2020 If you do a mock booking, you will see the discounted price.

Yep, I just tried it, and the prices on the results page are the "discounted" prices. Thanks.

Paul Bogle Posted January 28, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 28, 2020 It's 30% off the price they aren't charging. 3
hamrag Posted January 28, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 28, 2020 They add 43% to the real price, and reduce that figure by 30%.....ending up at the same price point, it is a bogus marketing ploy! 4
david_sobe Posted January 28, 2020 #7 Share Posted January 28, 2020 Its simple. NCL raises prices 35% then advertises a sale of 30% off with a cross out of the "old" price.

Rare luv2kroooz Posted January 29, 2020 #9 Share Posted January 29, 2020 Agree. In the past, it has worked as described. NCL raises prices by 40% tonight and then offers a 30% off sale tomorrow. An educated consumer is NCLs worst nightmare.
_Rick_ Posted January 29, 2020 #10 Share Posted January 29, 2020 SALE means nothing when it comes to NCL.

20YearsBetweenCruises Posted January 29, 2020 #13 Share Posted January 29, 2020 The cruise I am looking at increased in price with this sale compared to the previous one :( Should have booked yesterday!
NW Pacific Posted January 29, 2020 #14 Share Posted January 29, 2020 Yes price increase from last night for the sailing I was looking at, what a bummer, need to check daily as the prices fluctuate almost daily,
jlowe420 Posted January 29, 2020 #15 Share Posted January 29, 2020 Man is NCL reading these forums, this is crazy.
mdwcruises Posted January 29, 2020 #16 Share Posted January 29, 2020 Others are right, NCL would raise the price and then give you a sale of the century. That's how it works.
Lionkingrichard Posted January 29, 2020 #17 Share Posted January 29, 2020 Ha, showed wife this morning. The couple dates I have been watching were about $200 cheaper then the $1000 off plus 30%? Limited time people! $300 more and will be back to this years price otherwise going to Disney for the week!
Rare ColeThornton Posted January 29, 2020 #18 Share Posted January 29, 2020 Marketing 101. Cruise lines do this, airlines do this, retail stores do this, resorts and hotels do this. It's a common practice that should surprise no one.

Exactly. We bought our cruise, sail away inside cabin for 849 dollars for 21 days. We received a mid ship inside cabin on deck 11, considered an upgrade. When the 30%off " promotion" was implemented they raised the sail away inside category to $1294. I guess they have not figured out some of us are on top of this and can't be lied to 🙂 Edited January 29, 2020 by spanishguy1970
Rare graphicguy Posted January 29, 2020 #20 Share Posted January 29, 2020 Just like a hotel, there are "rack rates" for cruises. Think of them like the MSRP of a car. That's usually the retail price. Discounts start from there. So, if you see the "regular" rate, that's what you subtract the 30% from.
amyh13 Posted January 29, 2020 #21 Share Posted January 29, 2020 There is also a past guest offer that gives you an extra 20% off.

Rare Liljo22 Posted January 29, 2020 #23 Share Posted January 29, 2020 Posters make it seem like someone at NCL is arbitrarily making pricing decisions. There is not someone in Miami going, lets raise this Bliss cruise by $200 because we think our customers are stupid. Its all done by analytical computer calculations and then pushed through without someone ever seeing the pricing change. The algorithm is taking into account multiple factors including open cabins, average rates of current cruisers on the ship and pricing on other cruise lines. The "sale" is just a way to driver customers to the website to check prices. The prices are not changing based of the current sale.

Went to price a cruise that's on the "list" (direct link from the lattitudes promo page) and it didn't look like it applied the 20% - only the extra point per night. In the past there was a notation about the 20% on the booking page. So cruise is still higher than when I booked in November with the 20/30% discount, plus I got double excursion credits. javalsu Posted January 30, 2020 #25 Share Posted January 30, 2020 I would recommend checking if you've already booked a cruise. I have a haven suite booked on the encore and the "sale" actually saved me around $900 after I called and got a price adjustment.
