They may not be aware of the restrictions? Seems crazy to me. Mathew Smith tweeted today they're negative and free to go wherever they want in Japan. He posted an image of the document. They plan to spend the next two weeks vacationing in Japan. As of now, US has not changed prior instructions to the people who stayed on the ship and skipped the evacuation flight. If they now test negative, they have to stay in Japan another 14 days and then be retested. If still negative they can then return to the US with no restrictions.

cruiserchuck Posted February 20, 2020 #2555 Share Posted February 20, 2020 (edited) Here is a link to an earlier letter that said they would be required to wait 14 days without symptoms and positive test results. I understood this to mean they would have to take another test before they fly home. https://japan2.usembassy.gov/pdfs/alert-20200216-diamond-princess.pdf Edited February 20, 2020 by cruiserchuck

Rare ceilidh1 Posted February 20, 2020 #2557 Share Posted February 20, 2020 Carl Goldman from KHTS Radio has updated his blog. An interesting comment: "I am fine. My fever broke yesterday. It came back for a few hours overnight with a 100.7 reading. I am told the 14-day quarantine meter starts all over again each time I have a fever. If that is true, I am back to Day 1. JennAngel9 Posted February 20, 2020 #2560 Share Posted February 20, 2020 (edited) Even after the two tragic deaths today and the warnings of infectious disease specialists and state departments everywhere, Japan has allowed another set of passengers who tested negative off the ship with (as best I can tell) complete freedom in the last hour. So the gamble of rejecting US emergency rescue may have paid off for these passengers--- or they be trapped in the new Coronavirus ground zero in 10-15 days. I hope I am wrong and wildly pessimistic, but I don't understand how any leader could come to the conclusion that these unknown huge risks are worth avoiding the relatively small cost of at least clearing a couple hotels and asking people to stay inside another 14 days. Cruising Is Bliss Posted February 20, 2020 #2562 Share Posted February 20, 2020 (edited) WHO appears to be posting one update each day. Latest is Situation Report #30 for Feb 19th. Worldometers OTOH appears to be updating in real time because they already show the two Diamond Princess deaths. The ship total is 621 who tested positive. Current status is 2 deaths. Still serious/critical is 26. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ TOTAL DEATHS 2,128 ---------------------------------------- China 2,118 Diamond Princess 2 Japan 1 Hong Kong 2 Taiwan 1 France 1 Philippines 1 (out of just 3 cases!) Yes, but there are some doubts as to how accurate the tests are, and also some doubt as to the length of the incubation period - there has been some concern that it might be longer than 14 days in some people. 5

The air is partially recirculated, not all fresh. Princess has confirmed this. However, it has not been determined if this is spreading the virus. However, it has not been determined if this is spreading the virus. From chengkp75, who posted this a few weeks ago: "One of the main reason that the guests are quarantined in their cabins most of the day, is that the AC in cabins is not shared or recirculated. There are two AC systems on the ship. One takes outside air, cools it, and supplies it to the cabins, in a one way flow. This fresh air supplied to the cabins is almost balanced by the bathroom exhaust which takes the air to the outside, in a one way flow. The fresh air supply is slightly greater than the exhaust to keep the cabin at a slight positive pressure relative to the outside, and to the passageway outside the cabin. The AC controlled by the cabin thermostat is air within the cabin, that is recirculated within the cabin, passing over the individual cabin's cooler."
Rare Germancruiser Posted February 20, 2020 #2567 Share Posted February 20, 2020 As I mentioned already. The purpose of the quarantaine was to keep the virus to spread into Japan- if that really worked- we will see! That the passengers of the Diamond Princess got infected did not come as a surprise- even David and Sally Abel´s postive test was no surprise- they sat with a postiv tested passenger for two weeks at the same table! I fear we will hear from crewmembers who get testet positiv in the upcoming days, when the DP is free of passengers at last! Terrible for the couple who died- I suppose they had health issues before hand!

It's the only way to be sure. Seriously, this is obviously somewhat unsettling and reports of people milling about are questionable, but internet hysteria is not helping matters. The Japanese government does not want the massive population of Yokohama infected anymore than the governments of Canada/US want North America metro areas to become infected. Take a deep breathe and lets see where this goes. We're not privy to special information on Cruise Critic which governments don't know. Is it going to escape and take down the planet? Maybe it might... And nobody knows for sure, but one thing that is almost guaranteed is that nobody posting here is privy to some super-secret knowledge that others aren't. Posting links to infowars is not a legit citation I'm worrying about. I'm not saying to trust the government carte blanche, it certainly doesn't deserve it, but government employees are not necessarily idiots, they're like me and you , with a ton of professionals, and don't want to needlessly cause problems to themselves or families either. Who is posting links to infowars? Most of us are sharing information from the New York Times, NPR and their foreign equivalents. We don't need to be privy to special information-- 90% plus of the governments with passengers on board have stated that the quarantine failed for purposes of isolation and everyone would need to start over again when they arrived home from Evac: US, Australia, China, Canada... so the question is what do you think makes the Japanese authorities confident everyone else is wrong, including the only infectious disease doc (from one of their own top tier universities) to actually visit the ship?

The VP of Princess stated over and over again that the air going to the cabins was fresh. Yes, in his first speech he did mention recirculated which is true, some of it is within each specific cabin otherwise all cabins would be the same temperature. However many passengers with balconies left their balcony doors open. This apparently negates the slight overpressure allowing some air from the corridors to enter the cabin through the door vents. Another good reason not to leave your balcony door open!

The Princess spokesman said the air in the cabins is partly fresh and partly recirculated, but he did NOT say that the re-circulated air comes from the rest of the ship. The Chief Engineer who posts on this forum said that the air comes into each cabin. Princess said that they increased the quantity of fresh air coming into the cabins. However, if people had their balcony door open when they opened the door from the cabin to the hallway, they would get an inflow of air from the hallway. I don't know how many people left their balcony doors open for periods of time because it was very cold outdoors.

The VP did not say that air was circulated from one cabin to another or between the cabins.
