Sounds a bit like neither MSC or Greece wanted to be involved anymore that they have too.  So took alternative approach - If we look away and you all run it will be fine - Honest!

We sailed a Med cruise on her summer of 1999.  She was a beast back then.  The worlds largest shopping cart as many liked to call her.  I remember pulling into Venice with her and all the locals complained about her size.   She’s just a midsize ship now by today’s standards.

I was on the Ocean Princess right after 9/11 ... rather worried until I saw the Grand Princess in port with us.  She was huge (in comparison to the Ocean).  Now, she's such a little peewee ship!  🙂

And not enough thought into the "cruise ship problem". What a mess, from no test kits available to not having enough masks. Who does these peoples thinking for them. After the Diamond Princess problem you would think there would be a pallet of masks in the hold.

The masks are only effective for 15 minutes or so and once they become damp they actually trap the virus inside. There are simply not enough masks to do the job. In Aus we are being told not to wear them unless you yourself have the virus. Medical personnel who actually know all this and how to use them, must wear them.

As regards to the test kits available. This virus was only really known about since January. It's March. A test had to be developed, produced and distributed. How on earth could 'the world' produce enough test kits with such high demand, and people needing multiple tests. The logistics are overwhelming and which is why every attempt is being made to slow the spread down. Cruise ships unfortunately are accelerating it.

This is starting to get out of hand.  We're now seeing the effects of breaches made 7-21 days ago, I highly suggest avoiding cruising for the time being.

March 7, 2020

Dear Carnival Panorama Guests,

We want to provide you with an update for our embarkation plans for today.

There is a medical matter involving a guest currently on board that has caused authorities to suspend the debarkation process. Although the guest in question does not meet CDC criteria for coronavirus risk, officials still require additional information. Our shore side medical team is in direct contact with authorities and debarkation will resume as soon as we have received clearance from local authorities.

At this time, we do not have an estimate as to when embarkation for today's cruise will start. Since we have limited seating, please do not proceed to the cruise terminal until you have heard from us.

A US$15, per person, lunch credit will be posted on your Sail & Sign account so you can enjoy lunch on us during this delay.

We will keep you updated as we have more information. All future updates will be by text. If you haven't already done so, we kindly ask that you sign up by texting CCL3 to 278473 (CRUISE).

We sincerely apologize for this delay and thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

Colleen Oliverio Signature

I have verified information that the Grand will dock in Oakland this weekend.

Surveyors are looking at the old Oakland terminals to verify fitment.

That makes sense having a survey of the pier performed due to them not being used for awhile for such a large vessel. Where did you get this information from?

the 15-30 mins is for surgical type masks - there are others designed to last for much longer

However the numpties who are flogging the masks are just flogging anything, thinking they are safe and then likely neglecting to do the basic rule which is wash hands well and frequently.

the way I am reading above it is saying the person has symptoms but they can't test per cdc.  Is there not a medical dr. on board that can request the test...this is no time to guess on this stuff. Agree no time to be cruising. One after another.

Yes VP Pence just said this in his news Q&A. Could be either the Panorama or the Royal Princess

Does this possibly include guest entertainers? Do they do short stints and go from ship to ship? I was recently on a Seabourn cruise and they had a young lady who was only on for a few days. Then moving on.

Carnival doesn't share crew with Princess. Completely separate in terms of employment.

As mentioned above, folks on the Royal thread for today's departure have indicated boarding has been delayed.

Honestly would you board knowing that its very likely a crew member or back to back passenger has it and you'll be quarantined?
