Cancelling Cruises because of the C word

I'm sure.  What I really meant was that nobody is going to take them to court to force them to automatically issue a refund to all passengers - we will have to insist on it individually, which means that although they should automatically refund everyone, they are not going to do so.

 

I'm not that worried as long as there is no legal deadline for when I have to request the refund by.

That’s the whole point we have been making. If they have cancelled your cruise there is no legal obligation on you to request a refund so there can’t be a deadline. The only deadline is for them to repay you within 14 days  That’s THEIR legal obligation.

It's a matter of basic morality really though, isn't it. Big company using its might to disadvantage its customers by ignoring the law. And I say that as a Carnival shareholder - though I've already written the shares off.

I've only just read mine. It also inferred that they are looking for alternative itineraries for Iona. They're more of an optimist than I am.😊

Other than Oceana, all the ships will be sailing summer itinerary out of Southampton by 11 April so it makes absolute sense to reposition here. Oceana is due to home port in Malta and as we know, that is closed.

I have theory about this. I think they know exactly how many months It's going to be, but they're staggering it so they don't get swamped with calls and refunds. Why else would they have sent me an email for a free cruise transfer? My cruise isn't until November 6th !!!!!!.

Seems somewhat more generous than P&O offer and has helped make up my mind regarding asking for a refund.

 

Booked a year ago for 1st time on P&O and now cruise cancelled 2 weeks out.  i'm taking my cash back and doubtful ill re-book with them. Other cruise lines appear to have treated their customers  miles better than P&O. The fact they are the last to react says a lot about their values

Question, help please! Although we are not sailing until September and have no intentions of cancelling ourselves, the cruise already has a £300 credit on it from a previous cruise on Arcadia we were not happy with. If P&O cancelled and we had a full refund what would happen to that credit, would it become  FCC or would it be lost? Opinions please.

If you look at the responses from Governments around the world, the cruise companies have paused following then lead of their Governments. The fact that the UK has been slow to take formal measures explains why P&O and Cunard were the last.

 

As for other cruise lines appearing to have treated customers better.... have UK based cruise lines done so? UK holidays operate under a much more regulated environment than most of the world. What they are offering is more than the legal requirement.

I Think the best option for you would be to e-mail p&o and ask them as they gave it to you.

Ask if there is a cut off date for using the £300 credit ?

Credit to me is an IOU and not as flexible as a cash refund ,the latter can be spent anywhere .

Well I'll not bother P&O with it just yet under the circumstances, hopefully it won't come to that and we will sail on our merry little way, it was just a thought that popped into my head. ☺️

OK that's fine staygulf.  I fully understand your point.  However are you then 100% sure that if I just sit tight and do nothing, P&O will refund my money within 14 days?

 

Somehow I doubt it, regardless of what they are supposed to do legally.

I doubt it too but it is their legal responsibility. For example I have just cancelled and invoked Regulation 14 pointing out that I expect a refund within 14 days. 
 

With my recent cancelled Princess cruise it was looking unlikely that I would receive a prompt refund from the agent. I therefore had to threaten a winding up order and my refund arrived on the 15th day.

In the light of the advice given by the Prime Minister this afternoon, I believe that it is almost inevitable that cruising in general will be suspended indefinately pretty soon. If fit and healthy people are being advised not to socialise in pubs, restaurants etc and not to attend mass gatherings, going on a cruise ship and doing all these things is an obvious no no.

I dont know the full facts but a friend of a couple who go cruising in September was due to go on aurora 5 th june had an email from p and o saying that he couldn't go due to the fact he was over 70 again dont know what he was told but find it hard to get my head round this one anybody else been told this?

Has anyone else cancelled their cruise because of the over 70s advice, the e mail said you would get a full refund, the lady on the phone said a full refund and quoted the correct amount to us. We then get a cancellation e mail charging us 50% of the cruise. How can they do that promise you a full refund and then charge you 50% . Very concerned.

Quite simply, they can’t. If you have not “opted” for the FCC then a full refund means full refund

Yes I know thanks but we are wondering if they are charging us because although my husband is over 70, I am not, perhaps the charge is for me. If so they should have told me that when we cancelled. 
 

If they are sending out incorrect cancellation invoices they should either tell everyone or just not send them out.
