This is a necessity, its time that people take a step back and realize the severity of the situation. We have already seen how quickly sickness can spread on ships. Your vacation is not that important.

My vacation is very important to me, not at the risk of others, but it is a very important.  I do believe we all need to take precautions and be vigilant, but I do think it is getting very blown out of proportion.  I know many may disagree with me, but it is my opinion.  Only 3 ships to date have been quarantined out of how many that sail each and every day.

Carolyn, I am a little confused by your post, I am assuming you mean this is the place to talk about it as opposed to others, or it is only for Carnival?

Sorry,  to discuss for Carnival and others. I believe for this particular topic,  there should be an opportunity to discuss cruising issues that don't relate specifically to Carnival for the folks who regularly frequent this board. That being said if this thread strays into topics that have nothing to do with Princess, Viking and perhaps others that might suspend operations, I will close it .......i.e, the NBA has nothing to do with cruising

Hope this clarifies??? Thank you for bringing to my attention....

I understand the points made.  Outside controls (CDC, state and locals) are much more worried about the future potential danger than the past history.  I have learned much in the past weeks, and one thing is the ability for local home ports to handle large influxes say from a ....cruise ship in addition to this expanding greatly if its own would compromise their ability to give needed care (the ramifications for that would dire, meaning they would have to make choices who to care for).  Hence, the what seems to be drastic talk, takes on a different view.

This is my worry also. We and another couple leave or NOLA next Friday my car and Cruise Monday. If so I guess we will stay in NOLA and have fun.

Sure hope you get to take your cruise.  I live an hour outside NOLA and as of yesterday the cases in our state are out of the NOLA area.  NOLA mayor has cancelled activities In the city this coming weekend (I believe mostly related to St Patrick's parades). Just wanted to give you a heads up to maybe google NOLA news closer you get to traveling this way to see what's going on in the area.

Christina Partsinevelos  on Fox Business News at about 12:20pm eastern time said " CARNIVAL ANNOUNCED THEY ARE VOLUNTARILY HAULTING ALL OF THEIR CRUISES FOR 60 DAYS SO YOU CAN'T TAKE A CRUISE FOR 60 DAYS". I think she should have said Princess who is owned by Carnival but I replayed it 5 times to make sure I heard her right but mostly to spell her name correctly. She was covering lots of info quickly without stopping to breathe, so for now, I think she just miss spoke.

Yea I think they are just reading and getting stuff wrong.

Besides ncl blunder ... I heard stu say carnival stock used to be over 100, rcl yes, not carnival.

Not helping the whole situation.

Please look on the Carnival board to find thread applicable to your questions or comment regarding cancellations, refunds, changes in itinerary and other matters related to your CARNIVAL cruise.

This board was set up to discuss NON CARNIVAL issues and cruise lines suspending operations.  Thank you.

Carnival has not cancelled any cruises that I am aware of. The thread you point to is for cancellations by passengers, which is not applicable. We realize Carnival has not cancelled, but the non-Carnival thread is a discussion of whether Carnival might decide to cancel, like they did for Princess.

Hard to imagine that Carnival Corp would suspend Princess, but not Carnival at some point.

Each of the cruise lines under Carnival Corp are run as entirely separate operations, plus Princess tends to skew older in terms of passenger demographics.  Between that and the couple of ships that have been in the spotlight over this, I imagine they're triaging the situation by suspending operations of Princess for now, and waiting to see how things develop in the coming days and weeks before they broaden that suspension to include other cruise lines.

That is my opinion also, but i have a family member who is ...  actually outraged that i am considering going on my cruise that leaves March 29 from San Juan.  (course this may be moot ... have to wait and see).  I am thinking that his opinion may be held by other people.

Just read where Viking Cruise Line is canceling all cruises on their 79 ships from now until May.  Can you imagine the nightmare if Carnival and the other major cruise line follow suit.

I think it would be good to suspend all cruises for at least 60 days.  Some people are carriers of COVID-19 and will not exhibit any symptoms, meanwhile they can spread the virus.  But the reason is:  these small islands have very limited resources and medical facilities, I would not want to spread the virus to any of these locations--they simply cannot handle it.  I have read some islands have already started to deny ships to dock.  What happens when all the islands forbid docking?

I love to cruise, and have some really great casino offers starting @ $10pp, but I also have lung disease and will not risk going.  I have already spent 6 weeks sick this year with the Coronavirus OC43, but the CDC did not test me for the COVID-19, because I had not been out of the country, but i was in contact with a customer who had just returned from Thailand, so I may have already had the COVID-19 and just didn't know it.  It was a horrible illness, and I struggled to breathe everyday, my blood pressure shot up to dangerous levels and was admitted to the hospital, and was in isolation.  Stay healthy everyone!

I have looked into Viking for a cruise before.  Their ships are much smaller so canceling affects much fewer people.  Also, the average ago of people who cruise with them is much older. They don't even allow under 18 cruisers (why we didn't cruise with them) so that pretty much knocks out a lot of people from considering them who have under 18 kids.  Even their booklets and ads almost exclusively feature "senior citizens." I would be willing to bet that an extremely high percentage of their cruisers are in the "high risk" category and canceling anyway.

With respect to Princess, they are the main line getting all the bad press. prior to the cancellation, I was getting rampant emails from them with special Cruise offers. Again, I'm willing to bet this is partially based on the fact that they are already sailing with half full ships, partially based on the fact that their demographic are people who if they contract Corona are more likely to be seriously ill or die, and partially based on the fact that when they are probably sued over everything related to the ships that have already been quarantined, they want to be seen as being proactive.

Carnival has a very different demographic that sails with them...and one that not only isn't as likely to die, but also likely that if they do get Corona to not even know they're sick.

Last night on CNN, Dr. Sanjay Gupta was saying that 80% of the people who contract Corona will have no symptoms or they will be mild.  he went into more detail about why this is the case, but the long and short of it is one of the reasons it spreads is because people are walking around with it who don't even know they have it.

Plus, so far, Princess Cruise line is the only one that has been affected by the corona virus, with so many passengers and all. Still, just two out of hundreds of ships. The numbers don't support the level of panic in our country.

They are cancelling everything that is outside every day needs. Cruising is next. It hurts to hear this but they cannot afford to have 10 ships with infected people and at the rate this is going -  that will happen.

Actually, in more than two months, the two ships by Princess that were affected, only one was here in the US.

So I question your 'rate that this is going'. Can you show me your math of how you calculated this dangerous rate.

I'm not attacking you, let me be clear. But at some point, ppl should start looking at the numbers for themselves.
