I think it is too early for Princess to know what will happen to all Alaska cruises this year.

I'm pretty sure they are not happening.   Washington state is shutting down pretty much, see the news tomorrow for more details which I don't have either.    No gatherings of more than 50 is the latest I think.

Most gathering places except groceries to be closed.   TSA called me to tell me that my interview for a Nexus card next week was off, they are shutting down.   (They extended it a year.)   Even if this only lasts a month it will take a long time to get everything restarted, the workers that you depend upon are out of work and won't be able to afford rent here.    Training new ones takes time.

I feel like I am looking into a black abyss, the disease is really bad but the mitigation may be worse.

Totally agree.  The obvious. primary concern of this is the human sickness and possible death of some.  But the snowball effect is so widespread.  Each shut down, affects another process and more people.  Sitting here feeling sad that I will miss a long awaited vacation feels selfish, but that is the human reaction I suppose.  In Texas, I feel that our leaders are doing a good job of making good decisions for the communities.  But the far reaching aspect of this is yet to be seen.  Godspeed to all

Leaving 1 day after the famous Princess implementation of a 60-day cruise shutdown.  We thought we would be going still, then Canada decided to close all Canadien ports to ships with over 50 passengers.  I know this cruise cannot continue, it would leave on 5/11/2020, then go to Victoria, BC, and, disembark in Vancouver, still in May, well before the July 1 date that Canada will allow cruise ships into port...

That's 500 passengers.

But note that U.S. citizens are exempt from this travel ban.

Yes my understanding is USA citizens are exempt, for now at least. WA State's increasing infections may change this.

Our governor here in California has just put a ban on all events / gatherings of over 50 people throughout the state.  He has also closed down all bars and wineries and shops must limit their customers within the store to either 25 or 50 people ... can't remember the exact number and has also limited the number of people that can be in a restaurant to ensure adequate social distancing ... his words, not mine.

I just can't imagine that the cruiseship pier down here in San Francisco could ever meet those restrictions but, for now, you can still book sailings out of this port .. not sure if that will last.  I don't even image that airports can meet those restrictions.  While I hate being so negative, right now, we just don't know as none of the cruiselines are in operations at the time being.  Along with the restrictions of anyone 70 or over has to get clearance from their physician before stepping foot onboard a ship, who knows what will happen to the rest of the summer season ... Alaska or otherwise.

And Seattle also has it's share of cases.

I just heard that most, if not all, the casinos and hotels on the strip in Vegas are shutting down their operations ... so, it appears to be getting very serious ... if not the virus itself, then its reaction to it.  I just saw what happened to the stock market today and I thought last week's numbers were bad.  Whoa!!!

BTW, I have a sailing booked for Alaska at the very end of August.  I sure hope it is still on ... but not even counting on that happening.  These are different times right now.

Canada sealed its borders today to all non residents today.  In addition all planes to Canada from a foreign country will land in one if 4 airports and anyone sick, including Canadians, will not be allowed to board.

For the time being US nationals are still permitted in.

The 4 airports are Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and Montreal; they can accept passengers from overseas.

The other airports for the time being can still accept passengers from NAFTA countries (US and Mexico) but no other foreign countries.  I suspect they will also list Saint Pierre and Miquelon as exceptions since they only flights into those French protectorates are through Canada.

That's not correct.  U.S. citizens are also still allowed to enter Canada.

Not according to news reports in the last 15 minutes.

Any non Canadian citizen are not allowed to cross the border.

If you are going to seal the border seal the border.

Permanent Canadian residents, the immediate family members of Canadian citizens, diplomats, air crews, and U.S. citizens are still being allowed into Canada at this time.

The current "body count" : Real-time updates: 48 coronavirus deaths out of 904 cases in Washington.

I agree with you, but too much money with Americans crossing border for now

Do you have a citation that includes U.S. citizens in the ban?

Yeah thats what I heard earlier today but not the same this evening.

If the media is not doing a good job, here is the actually announcement from the PM office.  US nationals are exempt from the restriction.  Quite a bit more restrictive than what the US has currently adopted.

That doesn't surprise me.  When the US makes something restrictive, those who disagree shout "racist" or other name calling.  Restrictive in this time of great uncertainty is actually better IMHO.  Kudos to Canada.
