I've just had the sad news that my 48 year old nephew died at 7 o'clock tonight from cancer. I'm not posting for sympathy, but to say that our nurses are incredible people, and have enough to do without having to have their workload increased by idiots who think they're invincible,  running around spreading this virus. Whew that feels better.

Avril

So very sorry to read your sad news. 😥

Apparently they are closed now. I find it odd that we were told to go and enjoy open spaces and then when we all did they closed them. Everyone I saw yesterday was being very careful to keep their distance. Will now look forward to visiting again when all of this is over --- we will all appreciate its beauty even more now

I live not far from Knutsford and we often go to walk our dog in Tatton Park. Our neighbour went there early this morning to walk her dog. Just as she was leaving the rangers were having to clear the park due to the large number of groups of people who were arriving there.
Although the house, farm, gardens and cafes were closed the intention was for the parkland to remain open.
Its such a shame that some people aren’t making any effort whatsoever to abide with the advice given to us to try to prevent the virus spreading.
We were hoping to continue walking in Tatton as it is usually so easy to be at a safe distance from others.

I hope you manage to have another visit to Tatton sometime soon.

Thank you Sarah and Andy. The reason I posted was to add my praise to our wonderful unappreciated NHS workers. Reading through Andy's post about his daughter having to tell a cancer patient they may have to stop his treatment struck a chord with me. Just needed to get it off my chest.

So sorry, CC will help. I was in utter despair last evening, never experienced such low in my life, was lifted back to reality by some wonderful people. Keep posting and feel the love!

Oh Avril, so sad.  I have a funeral to go to on Wednesday, strangely enough, the same nasty evil reason, and the same age, 48.  My best mate and business partner, sadly missed, but the hospice and the workers there made sure his last few weeks were as good as possible.  I do love our care workers/volunteers so much.

During the current crisis Cruise Critic are relaxing rules on off topic discussions - however it would be good to try and keep them on this thread rather than confuse threads on specific issues.

So, to start things off - Day 5 @ home. I am self-isolating as in the vulnerable group with health issues so lots of spring cleaning accomplished. Fortunately I am a weaver, well stocked with lots of yarns, so hope to finish lots of stock ready for Christmas !!  Loads of panic buying in this area so waiting to see how much of my booked Asda shopping I'll actually get come Wednesday 😞

well if half my asda order does not arrive wednesday also, may I blame you!!!!! Seriously order went in for £70+ last week , what came was just over £50. Expecting the same this week as well..

We are on the edge of Southampton, where the Solent joins the river Hamble.

Our local farm shop, which we go to every Saturday, was absolutely packed with very large queues, but was well stocked.

Walking along the Solent was absolutely packed, nobody self isolating, we steered clear.

There is a lot of anxiety in the town for obvious reasons, the cruising industry and Flybe pay (paid) a lot of peoples wages and of course, the Hotels etc are suffering.

Life goes on though, so stay safe and keep smiling,

Andy

You are across from us then..just checked map..across and down. Did you see brittania come in this morning, I just missed her.

Thank you Dave.   The specialist told them that he only had 2-3weeks so under the present circumstances his parents, aged 80 & 84 decided to look after him at home themselves  with the help of a trained nurse, leaving hospital staff to care for others. They live in Stockport and we're in Barnsley so the funeral now is another worry. Puts the whole toilet roll/pasta debacle  into perspective doesn't it?

I read through these threads for  while before deciding to enrol, and I'm glad I did. I've only been posting for a couple of months but I've quickly come to realise that we argue, criticise, help, care, advise, console, forgive, debate and disccuss ,encourage and laugh together, but isn't that what families do? Real or virtual.💕

In Caldwel where I live people are rarely on the streets. Its a nice quite community. Everyone got a car and the nearest entertainemtn and store are like 5-10 km away. In the recent days you could finally see people in the windows of their houses. Kids are playing in the front yard and etc. Also, the weather is not good at the moment and people just lock themselves up at home. Dominoz is working like crazy these days lol

That much??  A friend ordered about the same amount as you and £7 worth arrived.  On the other hand it's a great time to be on a much needed diet!

Indeed, the whole gamut of family personalities can be found here. Naming no names, we have a grumpy grandfather,  a mother hen, a jocular uncle, a petulant teenager etc.

I can have a good guess at a couple. That'll give me something to do over the next 12 weeks. Trawl through the posts and make a list 😆. On the topic of families, has anyone else noticed that during this situation we are all finding ourselves in at the moment , the posters are becoming more open? Sharing and using personal names and stories with each. Or is just me😊?

Hi all,I've already posted my experiences on another thread. They ramped up the lockdown over the weekend with only 1 person per household allowed in supermarkets and personal exercise only in a sensible radius of home.I feel a lot safer here with everyone doing as they're told and no food shortages.Funniest thing is seeing people with masks on driving their car, absolutely pointless, lol. This is coming pretty soon to the UK I'm afraid.Keep well everyone,Brian.

Are you near me? Southamptonish?

If so, anything I can do?

I'm still out and about, happy to help.

My daughter lives in Dibden, is that your side?

I'm sure she would be happy to pick up some shopping for you.

Sorry to hear about your loss, thoughts and best wishes to you and your family.

Yes I have noticed, this is an excellent site.

Andy and Michelle: That's a lovely offer for your daughter to do some shopping.
