Would you go on a "socially distance" cruise

I agree that any cruises in the near-time frame will have numerous similar restrictions -- and more.

How interesting.  We're just south of you, in the "other Washington," and at least 9 out of 10 people (including all the clerks) wear masks at the two grocery stores where I shop.  That's America for you.

That’s how it was here, too, until the May 24 weekend. Then we had the first stage of reopening the province.
A lot of people seem to view precautions as all or nothing. Small grocery stores and Costco still use masks, but suddenly most other stores don’t. We’re waiting to see if the numbers go up in the next month.

No.  I would not go on a socially distant cruise.  I am very uncomfortable wearing a mask.  I only wear it if I have to go to a place that requires it.  It would be very hard to meet people with the restrictions.

Wear a mask on a cruise - nope. They can sail without me if those are the rules.

 

The whole point of cruising - for me anyway - is normal socializing. Anything less would be a waste of time and money.

I would say Yes we would go.    We are currently required to wear Masks when going to stores and entering restaurants (you can remove them once seated).   So having a similar requirement when moving around the ship would not be that invasive for us.    We don't socialize that much walking from point A to point B, so as long as I can remove the mask when I get to my destination (restaurant, show, watering hole) then that works for us.   So if the choice is catching a cruise and wearing a mask when walking around the ship as opposed to staying at home watching the grass grow (without a mask),  then I'm going.    😉

We're finding in Vancouver that we drive to quiet neighbourhoods for a walk, just to avoid the stress of passing people on the sidewalk who simply will not distance themselves.  There are too many places in a ship which can't allow for proper distancing, and we can do without that constant anxiety, especially when we're paying for the privilege.  We're not looking at cruising until 2022.

Absolutely, I have 4 cruises booked in the next 10 months, for a total 53 days on the ships.  hope they all do not get canceled.

There is a lot more at play besides wearing a mask - cruising will not be similar to what it has been in the past, for a while.    There may be rules/practices in place, which affect one’s enjoyment of a vacation - besides the mask wearing (which I happen to think is the least of it!).    Staggered or assigned dining, possible assigned times for activities, debarking, embarking, and shore activities  everything will need to be choreographed well, and may impact the enjoyment of the cruise.    

 

At this point,  my biggest concern is that we are quarantined to our room.  Yes, if you get Noro you may spend 1-2 days in your room - you probably would  not even feel like leaving your room if you are feeling ill.   But if you are NOT sick, and  quarantined due to high transmissibility, that is a different ballgame.

 

Seems like most people believe it will be wear a mask, and everything as normal.   I beg to differ.

We just got back from a local casino - an overnight stay. After months of being careful, wearing my mask, wipes in the car, social distancing, I was ready to go out and about. Most state casinos have been open a week or more. Knew I'd have to wear a mask and deal with other safety precautions. It was not pleasant. Even though I've become used to the mask for shopping, etc., it was different to have to wear all the time. The place was very clean and people were careful with distancing, but the atmosphere was skittish. We took our food to our room to eat, staff walked around reminding people to only take their mask off when drinking, then immediately put it back on. It was far from normal and even though it felt good to get away from home, I won't be doing it again anytime soon. Can't imagine a cruise being any fun under these types of restrictions...

Are you going to enter the bathroom ,library,fitness center ,casino without a mask ?

We are really not enjoying masks right now. It actually keeps us home more. I do believe many of the early cruises will be emptier so that might help with the social distancing. We will miss sitting at the big eight person tables but I see plenty of other people who prefer the two person tables.

Socially distancing is fine by me. My husband and I cruise to spend time together. I'm not sure I'm up for wearing a mask everywhere but if I could wear one of those shields like the crew are wearing in some photos, I'd be okay with that. 

 

For us, cruises with the most sea days are the best. I think more cruise lines with multiple sea day itineraries. That will definitely cut down on the risk. Fewer ports means fewer opportunities to bring the virus/flu on board!

Being an older cruiser I sure would have to take a look at the rules before deciding to go cruising again. The short version: in the next year I would not want to go on a cruise, social distancing, masks  or no. However in 2021 I would go once I know what rules to follow. Social distancing would not be a problem but masks all the time would be a deal breaker for me.

So I intend on waiting to see what comes out of this before saying yes or no to cruising and that is from a person who loves cruising even with the flights to get there.

If it is necessary to wear a mask to protect myself and others, then, YES, I would wear a mask on a cruise. I also have no problem maintaining a safe social distance. I would rather be on a cruise ship with restrictions than not be able to cruise. Let those who want it all their way stay home. I prefer smaller ships, without large crowds anyway. I am booked for 2 cruises,  in  January and June 2021. I will be there with a mask on and keeping a safe distance, if that is still required. I just want to be cruising again soon!

We would gladly take our family on a cruise this year, the kids are bugging us to go.  That said only with no masks or social distancing.  We have not worn masks since this started and aren’t about to for what should be a fun and relaxing time.  Those who are concerned should feel free to wear masks, social distance, or not go.

At this time, we would only go on a socially distanced cruise. Until there is a vaccine or an effective treatment regimen, I would not get on a ship that didn't mandate and enforce a "masks for all passengers and crew" policy. In the current environment, I view anyone not wearing a mask in public as an unwelcome risk.

 

Regardless of what goes on onboard ship, getting to port, boarding, port visits and disembarking are also concerns.

My wife and I love cruising, but in the present environment, we will be skipping cruises for a long while!  We WILL NOT go on a cruise wearing masks or gloves, which would be cumbersome on a vacation where the idea is to have the freedom of movement on a cruise ship.  We will be traveling in our RV which is quite safe as a great example of social distancing!  We will revisit the idea of cruising whenever the protocols are refined and all of the ideas are worked out for a better cruising experience!

Interesting how different it is. Also in Germany - we have huge company’s like VW or Mercedes - they stopped working or stayed at home.

We have a small company and work together with other small company’s and we never changed anything, worked like normal the whole time. Only asked the others to be careful but here nobody is afraid and nothing happened.

We don’t have a cruise booked and will wait until we are sure we don’t have to wear a mask on the ship and in the plane ...

If a cruise is so risky that one must social distance and wear a mask, it is too risky to take the cruise.

If I have to wear a mask - which I do not - and social distance - WHAT IS THE REASON TO EVEN GO ON A CRUISE????? I would rather stay home and go to the beach....

I still dont get it how it is going to work. The only possible way that I can see it working is if they lock us up in the cabins and provide each of us with schedule when and where we go. This sounds very limiting and I dont feel like I will sign up for that. I would rather choose a different way to spend my vacation

To a great extent, that's how things would work.  Some have mentioned assigned dining times, room service required on certain nights to offload MDR, etc.   Specified times to use the pool.  I imagine shore excursions would be restrained, only limited seating on buses, masks required, etc.  Why bother.
