Personally, I don't bother to read your links.  Your comments on your posts speak volumes.

I am kind of reminded of an old Bolder Patrol episode, where a US citizen got really upset about one of our laws which restricted his entering into Canada, and his comment was along the lines of how dare we have different laws and rules from the US, after all we are just another state.

It's fine if you don't like us, but we live and abide by our own rules, laws, ethics, what have you.  And we like us.

You're such a sensitive soul.  That said, I do like Canadians by and large, their language quirks notwithstanding.  Otherwise I wouldn't have visited all ten provinces.  Sorry.

If only the borders were actually closed. Some very upset people in Banff, when a number of visitors from Texas enroute to Alaska showed up in local restaurants when they are only to use drive through enroute.  Not sure how this is essential, or if so why they don’t just fly.

I wish the borders were really closed (and stay closed a long time) too. What I'm curious about is why the restaurant didn't require masks on entering and social distancing.  Here, they wouldn't have been served without masks when they entered and the capacity would be at only 50% with tables a minimum of 6 feet apart.  Why were they allowed in, and then complain about it afterwards.

Here's another view of the issue, from an Alaska perspective.  As the article points out, not everyone can fly to Alaska.

It's interesting that the restaurant incident occurred in Banff.  My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Banff and Jasper in 1991.  The locals were friendlier then.

Cheeky Americans...  Sometimes I am just ashamed and embarrassed that I am of the same citizenship as these folks.   And, they probably think "well, I'm not in the USA, where they are abusing my constitutional right to not wear a mask," so they are relishing going naked face, being ignorant of Canadians still wearing masks.  As much as I love Calgary, Canmore, Banff, Revelstoke and am dying to visit again, the Honorary Canadian in me would never allow myself to flaunt this loophole.  If the Maple Leaf is still in Banff, will someone please go and have some dinner for me???

P.S.  Any of you living in Calgary - I hope you are OK after the massive hail/rain storm!  So sad with the flooding and damage from that huge hail that came down.  I still remember the flooding of the Bow River out in Canmore in 2013 - I hope that doesn't happen again!

An article in our paper today said people are upset that American  (pleasure) boaters are taking the Inside Passage up to Alaska and making stops on the way in Canada, for refuelling and re-victualing (and shelter in bad weather)...  Evidently the rule is for essential, direct, continuous and uninterrupted travel up, which is hardly possible, as it takes a week or more to go all the way.

Our rules do require social distancing in restaurants.  Because our numbers have been good we have moved to a lesser level this past week.  Hopefully it stays that way.  That is the fear right now.  It’s not about friendliness but the expectation that people follow the rules.  Another interesting story:

@slidergirl   Thanks for the kind wishes,  we were hit hard last night.  Broken windows, submerged cars,  millions and millions of property damage but no loss of life thankfully.

When it feels safe we’ll go to Banff, so many great restaurants!

I just spoke with my friend who lives in Calgary.  She said she lives in the SE part so she just got wet, no hail damage or flooding. The photos look horrible.   I do love Banff.  Indeed lots of good places to eat!

No surprise -- the border closing was extended today until July 21.  But some enterprising couples won't let the closing stop them.

Well, that didn't last long.  "Passion Park" is no more.  Frisky Canadians will have to find some other way to enjoy the company of frisky Americans.

A  very large number of islands in the  Carribbean have closed their ports to cruise ships for a least some soon upcoming months.

Off the top of my head:  I think the  list includes:  BVI,  St. Barts, Barbados,Martinique, USVI,  Cayman Islands, Aruba etc

While Bermuda is not Caribbean, no cruise ships are  permitted entry

Our numbers are going up in Canada. Not good.

There is a great deal  public support for keeping the US border closed.  Some want is closed 'tighter' than it is.

I take it you’re talking about the provinces west of Ontario?  For sure, I support keeping the land border closed for the time being.

A lot of people I know agree with you.  We see the news coming out of the US and want to keep the border closed.

I don’t blame you, why should we be able to export our stupidity.

I agree with keeping the border closed, but they have to stop everyone, because there is so much abuse of the "I'm going straight to my home in Alaska".  In one day alone in my little town - which is nowhere near the route to Alaska - I saw 2 license plates from Texas and one from Oregon.  They are getting more strict but not enough, in my opinion.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about being stricter.  It goes the other way too.  Here in NW Washington we're still seeing Canadian license plates.  A lot less than normally, but still too many.

BC Plates in Washington state I understand because I know, myself, of people stuck down there when the border closed (some are still at their trailers near the border), but plates in BC from Texas - it just doesn't fit.

Apparently there are some valid reasons for US plates in Canada as well as Canadian plates here.  A friend of mine has dual citizenship.  She has lived here for decades, her Mother and sister live in Canada.  She hasn't gone to see her elderly mother because of the 14-day quarantine on both ends, but I think I'll tell her to be sure not to drive her car with US plates if she does ever go.  (By the way I never said all the plates were from BC, some were from other provinces).

Yes, there are valid reasons both ways.  I was just reporting back on my own experience here in my town.  Plus there have been so many from the US hanging out in Whistler and Banff, but apparently that has been clamped down on now.

KirkNC, plenty of stupidity per capita up here in Canada as well, don't get so down being in the USA, you are not alone. Depends on press coverage etc. Plenty of out of control parties up here - just started later than in Florida etc due to later arrival of summer weather.
