USN59-79 Posted April 6, 2021 #52 Share Posted April 6, 2021 I have been making my own beer for a few years after my DS gave me a Cooper's beer making kit for father's day. Not only is the beer better tasting, it is also inexpensive. If you notice the price on this Munton's kit, it makes about 40 pints for a cost of $20.
JazzyV Posted April 6, 2021 #53 Share Posted April 6, 2021 Good morning. Thanks for the Daily. Haha on New Beers Eve day; I like Belgian beer. Interesting meal and drink. I also like Roy's meal. I was in Aruba on my last cruise, LA to NYC via the Panama Canal. It's sunny and warm here today. I should try to do some yard work, but the sun really bothers my eyes even with sunglasses. Prayers for the care list and cheers to the celebration list. Stay safe everyone. Beautiful water in Aruba. Also, whenever we called in Charlottetown, PEI, there was a "poffertjes" store on the main drag. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted April 6, 2021 #62 Share Posted April 6, 2021 🏀 🏆 I forgot to add my congratulations to the Baylor Bears for winning the NCAA tournament last night. 🏀 🏆 It was never a close game, which surprised us since Gonzaga was undefeated going into the game. We did not attend Baylor but live about 45 miles from the school. Since the Texas Longhorns lost in the first round to Abilene Christian University, another Texas school, we were cheering for Baylor. Have no reason why not. Just seemed to be off in my own little world during this pandemic. We have three cruises booked. One on HAL and one two onOceania. Not sure any of them will go. We will see. I’ve been lurking on this thread for a few days and thought it was time to post and say “hi” to some old CC friends and the new ones too. I will keep those on the Care List in my prayers. I have been to Aruba only on a cruise once. Good to be back. Terri Welcome home, Terr!

The original natural bridge collapsed sometime after our first visit in 1991. Behind Baby Arch, you can make out the gap where the natural bridge fell. Checked our pictures and the original natural bridge was still there in 2002. Apparently it collapsed in 2005. Happily@Sea Posted April 6, 2021 #69 Share Posted April 6, 2021 We had lots of Calif poppies in our garden - our backyard had this small plateau right behind the garage where the flowers grew. The poppies being taller, were right up against the back of our white garage. With the orange they really stood out, plus being on a natural raised bed. I can remember crushing the seed pods and putting them in little paper sacks to save for the next season. I saw that area for the first time a few years ago, it had shrunk - along with the size of the whole back yard. 😄 It was huge as a kid. The discussions here have jogged my memory of many simple things I used to enjoy doing and looking at. Thank you all.
highland cruiser Posted April 6, 2021 #70 Share Posted April 6, 2021 Happy Tuesday everyone. Enjoyed the pictures of Aruba. We have been there several times. Enjoyed the beach and sunshine. Another beautiful day here. We are getting spoiled with the sun and warmer weather. Plan to get outside and do some gardening. Dinner tonight for us is grilled chicken and roasted veggies. Red peppers are really reasonable here now and so good grilled. Have an awesome day everyone. Prayers to those on the care list and cheers to everyone else. Thank you again, Roy, Rich, and all who post.

StLouisCruisers Posted April 6, 2021 #72 Share Posted April 6, 2021 I had a very chatty visit with my newest neighbor this morning. Maybe next time I'll invite my neighbor on the opposite side of me to come over so they can meet. Three women talking! We may have to start earlier so everybody gets their fair share of yakking in. 😁 Our trips to Oranjestad, Aruba were in 2006 (Crown Princess, 2016 (Westerdam), and 2019 (Rotterdam). Imagine my surprise when I read @VMax1700was in Aruba on March 18, 2016 on Oosterdam! We were there the same day on Westerdam. Here is a photo of the two ships together. I kinda think the one on the left is Westerdam but aren't these two ships sisters? Probably identical. Can anyone read the name on the front? Nope, I didn't think so. Wish we'd known you then @VMax1700 as our Daily friend! Anyway, we enjoyed watching the parade go by. Actually we were there when they were setting up. The classic car parade was a favorite. We saw two of those light blue Thunderbirds that day and were amazed this small island had duplicate Thunderbirds. Liked the motorcycles too. Onward in our exploration. This is City Hall. It formerly was owned by Dr. Eloy Arends, but was sold to the government of Aruba in 1986 because his heir (son Jesus Arends) could no longer afford the maintenance. It was restored in 1997 and converted into City Hall. Pretty striking building IMO. We were first in Oranjestad in 2006 when we took our DD along on a Crown Princess cruise. That trip she did a little souvenir shopping for her kiddos. If you can't find it here, you can't find it anywhere! Thanks to all for your great photos of Oranjestad!

I also get a kick out of Roy's alternative meal suggestion. Riffing off Roy's lead and the fact that today is California Poppy Day, I am going to propose an alternative wine. Qupe is a very fine winery that specializes in wines made from Rhone grape varieties grown in various California Central Coast vineyards. Since, as I just mentioned, Qupe specializes in wines from grape varieties that are common in the French Rhone region, they do not make Pinot Noir. So, my alternative wine is the Qupe Bien Nacido Vineyard Santa Maria Valley Syrah. From the Qupe web site, "Qupé (pronounced kyoo-pay') is the Chumash Indian word for California poppy. The Chumash are native to California's Central Coast and Channel Islands; the California poppy is our state flower." The logo is a stylized poppy. So, in honor of California Poppy Day, I thought this wine alternative would be appropriate.
