Good morning, all! Peach ice cream sounds wonderful. Emojis are very useful. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a yellow pig. The quote is very true, life often tends to respond to us the way we approach it. I enjoy gnocchi when I can find the gluten free version, but tonight is already planned. Friends are coming over for a Saturday BBQ. It’s so wonderful to be able to do that again! I’ve never been to today’s port, and am enjoying the pictures.

Happy news! After having to cancel our trip to Africa  in November, yesterday DH booked us into a resort in Nuevo Vallarta for the same time period. DS and BIL are going with us. I’m very excited to have travel on the 2021 horizon again!

So Happy Saturday, and may the weekend bring you joy, if not a BHB.

Good morning everyone. My daughter is taking us on an outing today to get some ice cream for Sam. I’m pretty sure it won’t be peach, although he’s been craving any flavor.

Yesterday the speech therapist came and gave him a cognitive and speech evaluation and said he doesn’t need speech therapy which was really evident to all of us. His problem solving skills are great. When I was young, my mother asked me to get gas for the car. I made it up the street and around the corner for about one quarter of a mile when the car died. No cell phone, and Inhave no recollection of how I solved  the situation , but I think someone brought me gas. I was traumatized and our car never goes below a quarter of a tank. The therapist asked Sam what he would do if his car ran out of gas. He replied it would never happen because I would not let it happen.

Today will be another over 90 degree scorcher.

Stay safe everyone,

Carol

Carol, is no news good news on the replacement caregiver?

It is unclear why the day was called Yellow Pig Day or what a yellow pig has to do with the number 17, though legend has it that it is in reference to David Kelly's collection of yellow pigs. The mascot of the holiday, the yellow pig, has 17 toes, 17 eyelashes, and 17 teeth.

A Number With Special Properties

17 is a prime number that has significance in mathematics. It is the sum of the first four prime numbers - 2, 3, 5, and 7. A prime number is a number that can only be divided by 1 and by itself. Several studies have shown that when people are asked to choose a number between 1 and 20, a majority of people choose the number 17.

17 is not always a special number. In Italy, for example, 17 is considered to an unlucky

How to Celebrate?
  • Gift the mathematicians in your life marzipan Yellow Pig candies or yellow pig plush toys.
  • Do 17 acts of kindness during the day.
  • Sing Yellow Pig carols.

I am getting ticked at the weatherman.  Big warnings, tear around, prepare and much ado about nothing IMO.  Sheesh.  Of course, if I hadn’t prepared, we would have been nailed.

But my day was off to a good start with the first HAL Bon Voyage in many months (once I remembered how to do it 😂)

It’s good to hear your garden came through unscathed. AND a HAL Bon Voyage! What a good day!

The news about Sam, and the replacement caregiver, is so much better than it was a week ago. That good cry you had a few days ago certainly nudged fate into finally giving you a much needed boost.

Good morning Dailyites. Thank you kindly Rich for our Daily. Roy a special shout out to you for being the keeper of prayers and cheers.

I believe we had Yellow Pig day last year on July 17th. Otherwise I would not know where else I picked up that piece of knowledge.

After Mahjongg last night, we took some friends to dinner on Elvis. What a beautiful evening! We saw 5 fawns along the way.

Graham, I wonder if you and your sweet wife were able to eat a smidgen of those gigantic pizza's? They looked delicious.

Jacqui I'm glad you were spared the storm. I know it's frustrating when the weatherman is useless. Why don't they just say 50/50 chance of storm and CYA..

All my chores are finished, so will only be doing a market run after we have Farmer's market and lunch. I think fish is what we'll be having.

Blessings and Cheers.

Not exactly a yellow pig but..  And who can't resist grilled peaches and ice cream?

Late yesterday afternoon DH and I decided to take a drive out to the family farm area, so we picked up some food and drinks on the way out of town.  As we drove through the countryside, we were surprised to see the sad state of the crops - many farmers are already cutting theirs down to use as silage, and there are many that are already burnt.  That doesn't bode well for the future, as we are a major wheat and canola producing province - I'm sure it's going to translate into higher prices for flour and cooking oil, so it's time to stock up for the winter.

Oh Gerry, that’s awful. And so many farmers are living on the edge financially anyway. They must be so disheartened.

We had missed breakfast so at 11.30am we were both starving and the pizza margheritas were lovely so we both ate the lot.😋

Good morning Dailyites.  @kazu Jacqui, happy to hear the storm did no damage.  We are starting to harvest our chili peppers here.  Last night I made fresh salsa and we enjoyed Margaritas.  Which leads me to the drink of the day.  Tequila is definitely not my friend anymore.  (As they say, two times shame on you, three times shame on me.)  Anyhoo, when your crop comes in, please share a bit about what you do with them.

@kplady Laura, have a great time at the lake.  It sounds like a lovely summer tradition.

😊  (Celebrating emojis!)

@mamaofami, that's awesome that Sam is more himself.  One of my best childhood friends had a stroke and we always talk about how wonderful it is that with some things lost, she still has her warm personality and sense of humor.  She's still our beloved Nanci.  I'm super happy to hear of Sam's progress.

Peach ice cream just screams "summer."  Yum to that!

We've enjoyed visiting Bonaire and look forward to seeing others' photos.

Have a great day, Everyone.  Sending hugs and prayers to those hurting; raising a glass to those celebrating.  Thank you, contributors, for the Daily.

😊  🌺  🌻  🌼    (Emojis!  Love 'em.  Anything for a splash of color!  💜  💙  💚 )

The other day (Jul 13th) talking about Barbershop Quartets a group called 'the Alley Cats' was mentioned. A group with that name is on an episode of 'America Says' and mentioned that they had been on an Alaska Cruise. I think I might have seen them, but if this is the group I think it is, they are an a capella group, not really Barbershop.

Good morning Damers!

A lot done so far, I got over to Lowe's at 630 and grabbed two of the 3 smaller sized window AC units, so I'm ready for the installation at the end of the month.  No HOT HOT weather predicted between now and then thankfully.  After that I grabbed a Venti Iced Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks, I'm full blooded Italian what can I say, it's actually on the small side by my standards.  And speaking of Italian, I'll take a plate of the Gnocchi....or two, with meatballs!  The Peach ice cream sounds delicious and I think I actually had it once or twice on HAL.

World emoji day?  Okay: 😁🤢🙏👀👍😲🤣😞🤔 🙂

Those are my most commonly used

@rafinmd  Hope you are not in too much pain with tooth

@kazu Did the storms come and go?  I looked last evening and they either had already passed or hadn't yet arrived.

@dfish with everything you accomplished this week, I think a lazy day is well deserved.

@mamaofami Great news on not needing speech therapy, one less specialist you have to deal with.  Glad you are okay, we were worried in yesterday's daily.  I'm with you on gas tanks, I fill up as soon as I use 1/4 tank, never know when we might be hit with a sudden shortage.

@StLouisCruisers We didn't get a drop either, our 30+ days without rain streak continues 😞

@grapau27 did you have leftovers?  those pizzas are ginormous!!!

Today will be slightly warmer, the sun did not make an appearance yesterday and I don't think it got above 70.  I have to put together a new tv stand this afternoon and take Dad to church later which I'm not looking forward to because of all the construction, it's going to take almost an hour to get there, normally it's 25 minutes.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning from central Texas where it is partly cloudy and breezy.  A friend and I used to call the weathermen, the Infamous They, and they are predicting rain from Monday afternoon through Thursday, but the precentage is never higher than 50%.  Also, they predicted rain a few days this past week, but no rain since last week.  I think today's predicted chance of rain is probably accurate -- 1%.

I can celebrate all the days, but I did have to look up Yellow Pig Day, and found the same information @Seasick Sailor Joy did. My next comments are not meant to spark another debate on the best ice cream, as each region of the US and Canada have their own favorites. I like peach ice cream,  but my favorite is Blue Bell homemade vanilla and peach.  It's like a bowl of vanilla with peaches added.  They also have a strawberry version which is not as sweet as strawberry ice cream.  The strawberry version is available year round, but the peach is only offered in the spring.  I also like the emojis and use them sometimes.

We will pass on the meal as we are not overly fond of gnocchi.  The drink sounds good as does the wine, which is a little pricey.

@mamaofami  Carol, I'm glad the speech theraphist confirmed what you knew and that Sam does not need her help.  The outing sounds nice too.

@kazu  Glad your garden was spared.  It is too bad that the Infamous They can not give much advanced notice about thunderstorms and tornados, but they often pop up too quickly.  I like the advice about kneeling in the garden since my kneeling and rising are anything but graceful.  When possiable, I just bend over to pull weeds, etc., but then the wrong end is pointing up.  🤣

@grapau27  Wow!  Graham those pizzas are huge and I hope they were as good as they look.  One of them would have made two meals for us if we stuck to our usual two slices each.

@ger_77 Gerry, it is sad what is happening to so many farmers crops due to lack of rain or to the fires.

@kplady  Laura, safe travels and enjoy your time at the lake.

We have been to Bonaire once in 2000 on the P&O Oriana world cruise.  At that time, only DH had a digital camera, and took a few pictures.  We rented a car and drove around the island,\; then walked around town.  All the pictures are from our drive.

These were some of the former slave cottages in 2000 before any were restored.

Finally, last year on the Rotterdam Panama Canal cruise,  we completed seeing the ABC Islands with two visits to Curacao.

Good morning, Dailyites, and thank you, everyone, for all the information and posts.  Jacqui, I'm glad your garden did not get smashed, preparing for a storm of course meant it would not arrive!  When we lived in Kenya, the weatherman always covered his b*** by saying "Parts of the country will be sunny, parts cloudy and there will be some rain in places. " Never wrong!   Yesterday when we went out I could smell some rain, and later when we came out of the mall, there was a big black cloud lurking, but it moved off and hopefully dropped some rain on burning BC.  Today is much cooler and overcast, but I don't think it's going to rain.  I'm going to get my hair cut this morning, and if Pat buys a lottery ticket I'll tell him to include the number 17.

We visited Bonaire on our one and only Caribbean cruise in 2018.  I went ashore with Pat, but then decided I was not feeling up to the tour we had booked so went back to the ship and took a sea day!  Pat took the tour, but didn't take many photos.  I'll add a few.  I did love Aruba and Curacao, though!

Good morning all. Thanks Rich for the Daily. Thanks all who contribute. If we weren’t getting Alerts every hour or so a person could almost forget the fires were near by and still growing. With little wind this morning there isn’t much traveling smoke. The progress towards where I live is semi contained but it is now moving eastward. Thank you for the concern for my safety but I am fine. My concern is for others now in the path of wildfires.
Glad to hear Sam is progressing and that Jacqui was missed by the storm. Prayers for all on the list. And celebrations for the rest.

oday's sunrise is from a 2005 multimodal (Air, rail, bus, and small ship) to the Canadian North and the great lakes.  On July 17 I was on the Canadian from Edmonton to Winnipeg and the rising sun reflected against the side of the train in Saskatoon.

yes, it came but it was nothing serious at all.  And long gone.  It was fairly fast moving although a 2nd wave came sometime in the night / early morning.  No biggie at all here.

Good Afternoon All, thanks for the daily report.  Yesterday I pulled out the suitcases from the attic.  When DH came home and saw them he asked me why they were out.  After I gave him a look he then realized that this is packing weekend for Alaska.  We also booked flights for December and March cruises, JetBlue dropped their cancellation fee so we felt comfortable booking them.  I think we will be going out for dinner today.  We got married 17 years ago.  At that time we had been together 10 years.  My how time does fly!

Thanks for today's daily and care reports.

It is sunny and 80°F today.

Peach ice cream is lovely.

Bonaire is a lovely port.

Nice food and drink for today.

We called at Gretna Green then had a pizza at the designer outlet.

We then called at a pretty market town called Corbridge.

Hope everyone has a nice day

Thanks Graham. Cool to see Greta Green although I don’t think it’s the town the English couples escape to together so they can get married quickly. I read a lot of historical romance novels 🤪. You both seem to go somewhere great every day. We’re living vicariously through you right now.

Good morning everyone and Happy Saturday!!  Thank you for the Daily Rich and thank you for your lists Roy. Praying for those on the Care list.

I read the Daily yesterday but didn’t post. DM had a hair appointment (I’m taking her to most of her appointments now) and then we went to lunch at Outback, her favorite restaurant. The Kim Crawford was wonderful!  She got really tired so I know she has a few more weeks of recovery.

When I was searching for pictures of Sitka I couldn’t find any on the hard drive and it turns out Craig had never downloaded them. So last night he was able to get that done. He has much better pictures than I do of that cruise.

@kazu So glad that storm bypassed you. Also, it was so good to see the Bon Voyage thread this morning!  Yay!  ⛴

I haven’t been to Bonaire yet but the ABC islands are on my list, although I have been to Curaçao which is beautiful.  Thanks to everyone who posted pictures.

Have a great day everyone!
