Princess should formally announce that the Medallion App is problematic, instead of letting folks panic & flood phone lines

My final email attachment had "Priority Boarding" on the top. This was 1.5 months ago. Does anyone know if they are still using the same format? (I guess I could answer that in 5 weeks)

Not on mine, I sail in 3 days

I received my final pre-cruise email on 10/19 for my 10/23 Majestic cruise titled “Super important boarding info!” which did not contain any attachment nor anything about Priority Boarding in the email’s content.

Just show up early enough to board and have lunch on Princess.

That's what I did in August on the Majestic. But I was just a few minutes ahead of time for my group. No one was asking people what groups they were in. I arrived on a flight booked through Princess and the Princess shuttle from the airport. I figured they would not make those of us who were early stand outside until it was our  time to check in and they didn't. I plan to do the same next month even if I don't get the early time slot. They're not available yet in the app.

Ironically boarding the Regal in the U.K. last Saturday, they did not use the App 🤦‍♀️😂. Showed your passport, your medallion number was written on a piece of paper for collection at the check in desk. Never asked for QR code or anything associated with the App at all. The only thing we used our phone for was to show the result of the antigen test at the port prior to boarding.
On board there were many pitfalls with the App, including it crashing. Ordering was mainly done giving your room number! One major issue was that the App only had a limited number of drinks available on it, and did not reflect the full list of drinks available at any given bar and so you had to give a verbal order if you wanted any of the drinks not listed on the App. It got to the stage where the staff asked you to order from them and not use the App. The App was also poor at recording where you had ordered from and often provided an incorrect location. The waiters ended up walking around shouting out your name in order to try and locate you.
We also discovered that it could not tell you if a drink was not available- the order went through as normal and you were left sitting waiting for a drink that never appeared - ordered Peroni only to be told by staff that the ship had no supplies of it for our cruise.

To all the people who said they should allow you to do the input from your desktop computer instead of the crappy Medallion app:

YES! that was how it was done up to 2019 for many years. I've sailed on Princess for almost 15 years and it was always completed in 1 day in no more than 1 hr working time.

Now with Medallion it has taken 20 times as many hours (mostly trying to download the damned app) and 6 weeks calendar time! Nuts.

Bring back the old desktop web input method and scrap the stupid Medallion app.

Obviously this app was programmed by  a bunch of monkeys for Princess to save money.

It also never went through Beta testing (I used to program) and was approved by some numskull exec who should be fired.

So Bob what is the next step/how can we all impact Princess .do we all say give us back the old system for loading  pre boarding  information   or threaten them with numerous cancellations

We get  great casino deals from Carnival & since we no longer fly ,we can take a Carnival ship to the Mexican Riviera   & save money & aggravation   .  Same for Hawaii cruises  .They all start from the Carnival long Beach Ca pier vs San Pedro Ca .These piers are not that far apart from each other .in fact parking is easier in Long Beach

It did go through beta testing. You were the beta tester.

Another thing that Princess could do is give people an option to have Princess call back instead of having to wait on hold. I just called Southwest this morning and was given that option. It was so nice to not have to hold for so long. The callback came 15 minutes later, just as promised.

Upper management has really missed the ball big time in their handling of the Medallion App fiasco.

Execs should be forced to answer the phones or deal with the chat lines for a day or two so they can get a real taste of just how frustrated their clients are with an app that can't seem to handle even the simplest of tasks.

Our pre-cruise experience has been a total failure, and it's a shame that they leave it to the crew on board to make up for the crappy pre-cruise experience.

It's time for Princess to fess-up, eat some humble pie, admit that there are problems, and inform folks ahead of time that their can address most issues at the port during check-in.

This would help to free up the phone lines considerably, and reduce the frustration & fear many are experiencing over the thought that they might not be able to sail.

It's such a simple solution, but I'm guessing that some highly paid PR firm has told them to never admit failure.

In total  agreement with your assessment of the Medallion App -  on our last cruise in September we just let the Medallion staff at the terminal deal with getting us to the Green Lane.  No more waiting on the phone - enough wasted time.

This has been a nightmare. I have phoned 7times and been on hold for over an hour each time. One thing gets corrected and another fails.

This is the developers' toolkit:

With Elite/Suite/Platinum priority, I'd just forget the email and show up at desired time if looking to board early.

If folks would just listen to your advice and do as you suggest, there would be a lot less angst in the world and a lot of lowered blood pressures.

But..........sigh.........I don't see this happening. Seems many are just gonna keep butting that stump in the road and living with the resulting headaches. 🤷‍♂️

I am fine with that.  When I want on a ship early - like among first to board - I am happy with less competition.  Basically, the only time I need to be first aboard is when I want Sanctuary bookings and the voyage is going to be high-demand for it.

I am sure there are many people out there like me that have been using the app successfully. We were among 100 cabins on the Regal in 2018 using the app. Since then we have been on 8 more medallion cruises. Sure  we have had some glitches, but nothing that we spent a lot of time on. Between DH and I we have had it loaded on 4 different android phones over the years. I have never had to uninstall the app. It has just had the updates Princess pushed out. I know many people have had issues but there are probably many that haven't. I hope Princess can fix the app so it works for everybody because it really makes check-fast. When you arrive at the pier if you have your  medallion you don't need the QR code on your phone.

Well, I have that to look forward to (cruising in Feb.).

For a point of contrast, we just returned from a shorty on Celebrity (yes, they of the terrible website).

The website may indeed pale in comparison to Princess, but their tech was totally on point. We did everything we needed to do pre-cruise through their app, which performed flawlessly both pre and during the cruise. Menus each night, activities, reservations, and room controls - all on the app.

On our last cruise on Princess, Feb. of 2020, waiters and staff basically gave up on the medallion thing and were taking orders manually.

One more wish list item: also on the bad website, you can pre-book excursions using your credits. Why can't Princess do that?!
