springaussie Posted May 23, 2022 #226 Share Posted May 23, 2022 With the specials on cruises lately I am thinking the cruise companies are not selling as many as the media claims. Even $80 pn interior on the first P&O.

Even $80 pn interior on the first P&O. That lined up with several forced cancellations because of vaccination requirements. It is true though, there is only 2 ships operating between now and the end of August and initially with reduced capacity. Still, the early ones are winter cruises, with many not going anywhere exotic to escape the weather, and being sold on relatively short notice. The first few for P&O and Princess have now sold out, but I wonder how it would be if P&O had an extra ship and Carnival Splendor was here as originally planned. Hoping to pick up a decent Black Friday sale on drink package for our Dec cruise otherwise we will BYO wine. nel in Sydney has a similar concept to Wonderland and prices look to be much and much the same. Jamies seem rather expensive for a non fancy restaurant. Edited May 23, 2022 by Snoopkat

And you are dead right the media is hyping the sales up.

I generally expect to pay half on a ship for what I would get at an equivalent restaurant in Australia - no GST, cheaper wages, overheads shared between the restaurateur & the ship, and importantly you have a 3 course MDR meal already included in your fare. An example, Luke Mangan Salt Grill on P&O - $59pp. To get the same in either of his Sydney restaurants, you are looking at least double that. I am not up to date with what Princess Crown Grill will cost here this season, but think it is around 1/2 of what Chops Grill is charging. If I think I am being "nickel & dimed", I am more than happy to do MDR each night, and take wine + cans of soft drink aboard.

Rare arxcards Posted May 24, 2022 #236 Share Posted May 24, 2022 (edited) I can now see the Princess Crown Grill pricing for my October cruise. Chops Grille $100 vs Crown Grill $29. It isn't a quality thing either, as I think that Crown runs rings around Chops Edited May 24, 2022 by arxcards

The current sale looks pretty good for booking a cruise, but they are missing a March booking from me while they have those onboard prices. RCL shares are down to about $0.51 ,they have 3 ships currently being built worth over $4 billion. Icon ,Utopia and Ascent. They certainly are going need to find money and that’s a lot of drinks they need to sell. There’s a rumour that Disney want Royal Caribbean International. I don’t know how true it is but Disney could swallow it and still be hungry.

With share prices near historic lows, they are takeover targets for anyone with the resources to ride out the current market, but they can only be looking at it if they see a big benefit to their own shareholders. Disney is in the same sector though, and their market cap is sliding too. Edited May 25, 2022 by arxcards

I think with the PVSA the ship has to be American built and crewed. Edited May 30, 2022 by Chiliburn
