You might be able to get some inside information.

I was told by a CLIA rep that intercuise or the shore service  is working on deployment of a ship year round in Brisbane for Royal Caribbean.

Any word ?

Yes, I could………..and the word is Speculation ( of the  Seas )  🤔

Apparently voyager will fit into trinity inlet in Cairns but Royal Caribbean won’t take it in.

I was reading Ports north supplied the relevant information to both RCG and Carnival but they declined to take anything over 300 meters.

They said the channel isn’t wide enough if a wind pops up.

Yep, it will fit in on a good day, so a bit of a problem to be turned away if it is a bit breezy and easier not to schedule it. Even worse if you are stuck at the wharf because of an evening breeze. The local office has had ambition to add an Oasis class for donkeys years and an ambition of a full time ship for almost as long. Brisbane has only had a summer of Legend that didn't sell and coming up for a summer of Quantum that isn't selling well. Big stretch to go to having a full time ship anytime soon when the winter months are a much harder sell. Still, I live in hope, as it would be good for competition.

I think the turning basin would not be wide enough.

Voyager class ships are around 311 meters long. Celebrity Eclipse which has to anchor off Yorkey's Knob is 317 meters long. Coral Princess, which does dock, is 294 meters.

I believe the beam is also an issue for Voyager class.

And now for the real answer……… True, I could find out but  we do not start back to work until October so I am not in contact with anyone from the company and if Royal wanted the public to know, they would announce it and will do so when they are ready I would assume. I guess it would not necessarily  be a “ top secret” topic  and I believe there was some talk about it in the past  but as to what ship it would be your guess is as good as mine. If I hear anything and am able to tell you , I will.

Can’t you just make something up Graham, you know just tell what we want to hear.

In 2020 Royal was going to be sending Serenade and Radiance to Cairns to dock opposite the casino. If this worked out Voyager Class could have went a later date.
Ports North told me that they were going to increase the size of ships gradually by size depending on the success of the smaller size ships.
How is Royal going to get the revenue from Brisbane in the Winter like they do to in Alaska and the Mediterranean?

Yes, that’s something Royal would consider.
Another thought… their business case for building Lelepa depends on year round revenue.

I doubt Australia will be year round cruising even if Lelepa is built.

iIf Royal do cruise from Oz during Winter it will most likely because of a deployment change With virtually no other options.

I also will be surprised if Royal puts a ship year round from Brisbane, especially since they are having trouble with Quantum bookings during the peak season. And also consider, according to Brisbane ports, there will be a Carnival ship year round plus the Pacific Encounter. Royal will also be still  dependant on the international market and the majority of people travel via Sydney.

That’s why I think it would be a voyager class , if they do.

Voyager is in a bit of a twilight zone .

It’s to big to get into ports like Baltimore,Tampa or New Orleans.
But then it’s to out of date for the big ticket ports that get premium price.
They could afford to have a older ship at lower capacity for a trial.

Gavin Smith Said they want a ship here year round and the rumour is Royal has got there shore side provider working on Brisbane with the logistics.

Gavin tells me their intention is to operate year round once Lelepa is up and running.
Of course there are no guarantees.

Does anyone know if worked has started on Lelepa yet?

No ,it seems to have stalled.

From what can find ,only a well and a solar power system is being put in for the village and that’s done by foreign aid.

@chiliburn Philip, have you been following the thread on Quantum's engine problems?

Do you think it will make it here?

If they can’t fix quantum we will definitely be getting Navigator .

Isn’t Navigator set up for short cruises?

Good chance Royal will leave California all together.
They could use Navigator as a Quantum replacement in the short term.

Navigator wasn’t selling very well to start with and Royal was cautious about Baja California . I believe the reason the pulled out before was civil unrest.

I have no idea of a Asian Island?

Apparently Navigator and Carnival Radiance are only doing technical stops at Ensenada just to satisfy the PVSA.

I don’t believe they are letting passengers off.

Royal swapped to Canada instead of Mexico in the health crisis. I got to see Mariner in San Fransisco May 2009. But these were week cruises from memory. Navigator is virtually just 3 and 4 nights cruises  now from LAX. With the odd 5 or 7 nighter.

So why couldn’t it do longer cruises?

If things don’t calm down, there’s going to be a big announcement.

Sales are bad and drug cartels with guns aren’t going to improve things.

Plus Royal won’t be taking passengers to a place that the state department say to reconsider to trip.

I think Navigator is the most revamped Voyager class,it could be good here. Certainly give P&O and carnival a run for there money over winter.
