Be surprised if they can track the location of your phone accurate enough

The ships wi-fi has quite a reach get connected if there is any wait time in the terminal and watch it there.

Of course, with the quality of the wifi these days, it would be a miracle of it could be used to track the location and activity of 3,600 passengers.

The wifi on the ship is fine and fast,

Its the connection to the internet that has the issues.

I was once reprimanded at the old physical muster meeting for reading a book and not paying attention.  So I know the staff did try to force us to be attentive.

The "modern" equivalent of this with the "old new" (or is it "new old") muster drill is people playing with their cell phones.  Most announcements criticized those that did it, and sometimes the crew would personally growl at offenders when they saw them.

P.S.  I've read a lot of books in my time, but not many while standing (the usual muster position).  I much preferred to sit or lie down for my reading pleasure.

The old system (go to a muster station for the drill) at least (originally) had everyone put on their life jacket with staff to assist to be sure it was done correctly.

I've been mustering since 2014 and I've never had to put on the life jacket during a drill.  I have done it several times in my cabin.  They're pretty straightforward to put on, but as a guy, the ones with straps down Main Street don't look like much fun to wear. 😬

I can guarantee you that with the new system a large percentage of passengers will have no idea how to correctly put on a life jacket. In case of a real emergency, they will be ill-prepared.

Honestly, I've never been able to understand how anybody could look at one of those lifejackets and not know how to put it on correctly.

Cruise before last, we started the video and then absent mindedly left the cabin with it playing. The fact that our medallions weren't in the cabin seemed to have busted us. We had to restart the video and stay in the cabin while it played.

That's the advantage of having a phone & letting it play while in your pocket on the way to lunch. 😁

My muster stations have most often been at the casino (closed during the muster practice session) and Crooners (no bar service during the lecture), so I've been able to grab a seat and get somewhat comfortable while reading during the lecture.

These are the same people who need to have seatbelts demonstrated on the airplanes.

Definition of "watched" please. We had it on while we unpacked.

I'll now wait for the takedown by the outraged, condemning my lack of attention.

I'll bet you did not try on the life jackets while unpacking.

Yet back in the days when you had to put them on after the demo at muster, there were always a number of people who did not do it correctly and had to be helped by the staff.

Yeah, I remember that. Never could understand it, but I remember it.

Is the video interactive requiring you to respond to prompts or questions as it plays?  If not, how do they know that you actually paid attention to the video?  You could go out onto the balcony for cocktails while it played, or left your phone in the safe while you went up to the buffet.

You'd have to leave your medallion...then figure out a way to get back in your cabin.

We checked in at the casino, was reminded to watch the video, and did that while unpacking.  Didn't get letter so I guess they knew we watched.  However, similar thought about what would really happen if we had to... jump ship.  Let's hope we'll never need to know.  I hated the muster drills of old but at least felt like someone was listening.

Excellent reason.

Did you try to use the App to request another color?

Yes I did. I asked for Ocean Blue which is an ideal colour to wear if you are bobbing about in the ocean.

It helps cleanse the gene pool, if you can catch 'em before they have a chance to reproduce.
