Rare Honolulu Blue Posted June 29, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2022 (edited) WARNING: Long post. Lots of numbers. May be dry at times. There's a TL,DR at the end. I won't be offended if you move on to the post about dress codes. All right, for the other person that's actually reading, I saw an insane price for one of my cruises listed under my VIFP number. I'm not a gambler at all, so it's not related to that. Let's list the details: Carnival Splendor (I've been on her twice before, nice ship, missed Guy's though) All sailings from July 12 through August 30 Interior guarantee cabin All sailings round trip from Seattle Sailing to Alaska and Victoria, BC Port fees about $255 per week Gratuities about $100 per week Normal stuff so far, right? Now let me get to the insane parts: The cabin price for me, single occupancy, is between $70 and $100 PER WEEK. Not per day, and certainly not PPDO. $100 or less for the cruise fare FOR THE WHOLE WEEK! I don't even think I could stay in a hostel for under $15 a night. In addition, the offer gives me $200 per cabin per week And I also have some CCL shares that would provide $100 per week in OBC So, if I wanted to do a B2B2B2B2B2B2B2B, the net cost would be... about $1150. That's insane to me, the best offer I've ever seen from Carnival. Yes, there are some extra costs (any excursions, COVID-19 tests, airfare, various shuttles) And I'm going to have to turn it down because I have a job I enjoy too much to go on an adventure like this. 🙁 This particular rate and offer expires tomorrow, and I don't expect to see it repeated unless I go completely degenerate in the casino. This would be really fun to watch some vlogger do this and watch them slowly go insane. Story of my life. Thanks for reading. TL,DR: I could take any or all of a string of cruises in Alaska this summer for under $150 per week. No thanks. Rare Essiesmom Posted June 29, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2022 I had an offer for Alaska solo for $45, plus the $225 taxes, etc. since I live in a non hub area on the east coast, I had to pass. EM
mz-s Posted June 29, 2022 #3 Share Posted June 29, 2022 The Alaska sailings have been very attractively priced this year. Sadly like others, I just couldn't make it work to get to the left coast this year.

ultrafighter Posted June 29, 2022 #8 Share Posted June 29, 2022 I had an offer earlier this month for an Alaska sailing for $25pp if I could make my way to Seattle and sail about a week after seeing the offer. I had legit sadz because I couldn't just up and cruise for a week, also due to a job I like/need too much.

beatleang Posted June 29, 2022 #11 Share Posted June 29, 2022 I got this deal! We leave in a few weeks. For 3 of us in a stateroom with a window the total price was $1075 but got $200 back to spend on the ship. I am really excited! Earlier this year we were checking prices to Alaska and couldn't find anything under $700 a person. I jumped on it the day they emailed me!
ray98 Posted June 29, 2022 #12 Share Posted June 29, 2022 (edited) I have found that many of these offers expire after the first booking. Just because you see multiple weeks at a deep discount under the same fare code does not mean they will be available after you book the first one. The others will revert to some other discount code which is no where near as low. Edited June 29, 2022 by ray98 7
JT1962 Posted June 29, 2022 #13 Share Posted June 29, 2022 There have been some great deals for Alaska. I sailed on the Splendor solo for $ 125 plus port charges / taxes on May 2. I have gotten emails with similar deals recently, but airfares are now 3-4 times what I paid in May.
urbanhawk Posted June 29, 2022 #14 Share Posted June 29, 2022 The good, the bad, and the ugly of it: I am booked on the Splendor, which will be my 12th cruise on Carnival, but my 1st time on this ship. My "fare", traveling solo was a $400 nonrefunable deposit, which is then given back as obc. I only had to pay the taxes/port fees, of less than $200. The cruise is a 23 day transpacific from Seattle to Sydney, departing in Sept. I have a balcony on the lido deck, and will have $2000 in funplay. Of course I'll have other expenses ie:flights, hotels, etc. This is the good. I haven't been on a cruise in 8 years, which is the bad. Spoiler alert:here comes the ugly. Due to some unforeseen/unfortunate circumstances, I may have to cancel, if things don't turn themselves around in next week or so. Ugly enough?!
sanmarcosman Posted June 29, 2022 #15 Share Posted June 29, 2022 That's nothing. In January, many of us sailed for a week in a balcony for $15pp + +. Something to tell the grandkids like my grandmother told me when she was a kid a nickel would buy her a Snickers the size of her forearm!
CruiserLucas Posted June 30, 2022 #16 Share Posted June 30, 2022 We’ve been getting $0/person offers, which have now changed to pay a low rate and get it back in OBC, but none of the itineraries interest us or they’re not days we can get off work. I wanted to book the $4/person Australia offer I had for Christmas time with $300 OBC. Yes - even after port fees and taxes Carnival would be paying us to take the cruise (well if you count OBC as money to you since it’s in their own system)! But flights for Australia are prohibitively expensive and way outside our budget for now, so just couldn’t do it. 😞

Virga Posted June 30, 2022 #21 Share Posted June 30, 2022 I have never been given more than two uses of the best rate codes - prices like that with $200-$500 OBC. I sometimes also get another use or two of prices like that without OBC. Sometimes I only get a single use of one. Since mine are casino offers, the casino folks can tell me how many uses of each code I get. I don't know if a normal PVP can tell if it's not a casino offer, but probably. Before I started gambling on cruises - solely to get the great offers I read about here - I didn't realize these were limited and I 'wasted' my single use on a weekend cruise, not realizing how it worked. Fortunately, my other half also had a use and we booked the Mardi Gras lady year for less than $500 total in a balcony cabin. We've given back every penny in OBC Carnival has given us, right to the slot machines, but the cruise prices themselves have saved us thousands. I'll miss them when we run out of OBC offers, because I don't want to spend our own money in the casino - I can't imagine the amazing cruise prices will stay at our gambling level once things get more back to normal.

seagypsea Posted June 30, 2022 #23 Share Posted June 30, 2022 FYI to the OP - you will not be given your shareholder benefit on a discounted cruise. It's clearly stated on the corporate benefit page. I tested that statement by asking for it on a discounted cruise and got a letter instead saying we love you but sorry...
