Things to keep in mind for a cruise longer than 7 nights

Recommended Posts

We’ve got our first 9 night on deck. Is there anything to keep in mind when sailing that long? I’m sure the wash and fold bag will come in handy! And the sticker shock at auto gratuities. But…. Any packing tips or help?

Can’t  wait!

Take clothes that are loose fitting and comfortable.

What about 28 days lol.      Glad I’m flying southwest and can take 2 pieces of luggage.  Lol.

You're lucky -- I'm flying Delta (main cabin) for 71 days of cruising.  Going to be making FULL use of my carry-on and personal item for that one!

Depending on how you like to dress for the evenings (read: relatively casual), you really can mix-and-match your outfits.  Literally NOBODY is going to pay attention if you wear the same shirt or pants on two different nights.

Make sure you pack several days' worth of extra meds... if you're prepared for a delay (hurricane!), you don't have to worry about it happening.  Same for all toiletries -- make sure you have enough of everything.

If you run out of cash (for tips, tours, or whatever), you can use the casino trick to get a "cash advance" on your credit card (see below).  Transfer money from your room to the slot machine, then cash out the credits and take the voucher to the casino cashier.

Take the time to just relax... there's plenty of time for it!

Wal Mart on turn around day

I do have a "land day" at the halfway mark (after 35 days) ... overnight stay in Miami after getting off Symphony before getting on Oasis. There will most likely be a toiletries errand run that day!

I've never understood why RCCL doesn't put Laundry on their ships like say DCL, Princess, and even some CCL ships.  It is REALLY, REALLY handy for those longer cruises.  We did a 9-night Greek Isles on DCL this summer which followed a 3-night pre-stay in Rome.  We did laundry a couple of times and it was very nice to have it there, especially on these longer itineraries.

I don't get the frequent reference to "mix & match".  I suspect it is something applicable mainly to women.   I don't have "outfits".   I put on clothes - typically a pair of pants and a shirt.   It is always a mix. I try hard to make it a match too.

To support your last comment, I will not remember what anyone wore 5 minutes ago much less the previous day.

Hell, I couldn't tell ya what I wore the previous day. If others are noticing if someone is wearing the same clothes more than once, sad but at least they will finally have something to talk about. Boring!!
