Good morning all, lots of posts early this morning. Thanks to all who keep this going. I am slowly getting back to normal. Funny how no jet leg on the way over but dragging now that I am  home. It will be a beautiful day here and I am meeting my friend who lost her son today for lunch. There were be lots of tears on both of our parts I am sure. 
 

I went to ALDIs yesterday for groceries. I was again surprised how cheap it is.  I still have to pick up a few things that they don’t have or I don’t like at another store. The important thing is I filled the snack shelf in the pantry for the grands. They both commented on the lack of selection when they came on Tuesday.

The Heimlich maneuver has saved many lives. I try to say something nice every day. The DARE program is important in schools. Good quote. Pass on the meal (fish), maybe on the drink and yes to the red wine (if someone else buys it for me).

I haven't been to Puerto Madero.

 

It's going to be another hot day here. About 40 schools are doing at home learning the rest of the week, as they have no AC. We also have some air quality issues from the Canadian fires. I got the yard edged yesterday and half of it mowed. I'll finish the other side this morning, before it gets too hot. Then laundry. The knees held up pretty well, but by the time I stopped working yesterday I was pretty sore.

 

I don't know if it was the mild winter, but my hydrangeas had no buds on the old wood, as they usually do, although there's new growth. Also my rose bush didn't bloom. It's been very dry as well, so I'll need to do some watering. I may try to find a tomato plant or two at the garden center, although I know it's late.

@1ANGELCAT Oh no on the electricity shut off in this heat; hopefully they'll reschedule it. Sorry to hear that Ninja is not doing well.

Good Thursdays Morning Dailyites!  

 

We have scoured the neighborhood and have not found our Fawn.  Bubbles did show up yesterday morning, and Uggles went through the back yard, but did not stop, and then they both moved on.  But no Fawn.  I saw the fox go through late yesterday afternoon too,(on her way to the creek) but she is looking very thin.  Too  much gunfire in this neighborhood, and I feel that Fawn has met her fate during her wanderings.  So for the last two days, I have only put food out for the black and white, and hope that if this stray eats the food, the raccoon will start to go else where.

 

I picked up a box from the floor this morning and underneath it was a Simon and Garfunkel cassette tape...Bookends.

 

I did not get to pay that bill yesterday, after walking the dog, i was done in for the afternoon, so today I need to get it paid.  Also put a couple of checks in the bank.  I really don't want to go out anywhere, but to be honest, there is no food in the house.  I do eat, I just don't want to cook.  And I need to sound out my boss regarding taking another day off sick.

Rabbit, Rabbit, White Rabbit.  Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann.  I like all 3 of today's days, especially Say Something Nice Day   Like @kazu I mostly like today's quote but there are some notable exceptions.  I miss Simon & Garfunkel.  I have been to today's port twice, Zaandam in 2017 (Called Puerto Quetzel) and Crystal Symphony in 2018 (Called Puerto Modero).  Since I don't eat seafood I'll pass on the meal.  My alternative is Marinated Pineapple Spears, Basil Crusted Veal Rack, and Tiramisu as served on MS Prinsendam June 1, 2015.

I have been waking too early and unable to get back to sleep, but last night I went to be a bit early, woke at 6:00 a.m. but only briefly, and slept  until 8:00, so my outlook on life is better. Today I need to pick up prescriptions and, if possible, shop at Staples, be home for a webinar at noon, work in my office during the afternoon, and shop for groceries.

 

In contrast to Say Something Nice Day, Alice Roosevelt Longworth is quoted as saying, "If you can't say anything nice about anyone, come sit next to me."

 

For Dare Day: when I lived in a small town in Connecticut, I always attended the annual Town Meeting. I am from Ohio and didn't always understand the New England accent. One year, when the budget was being presented, someone questioned the police department figures, asking whether it accounted for deer officers. Now, the town was almost overrun with deer, but I had seen no sign that the police department had anything to do with them. It turned out to be DARE officers; DARE is an anti-drug education program.

 

I'm not very fond of tilapia, but I'll be ready for a Tom Collins later. The wine might be OK. I haven't been to anywhere in Mexico.

Rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit!  Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I had to use the Heimlich maneuver on a fellow in the Lido a number of years ago.  I try to say something nice to someone every day; you never know what people are going through.  We know a couple of DARE officers; they do a great job in the schools and community.  On the other hand, I dare you to find a word that rhymes with orange.

 

A beautiful June morning out there today with a breeze and temps that are predicted up to +28, high humidity, and possible showers later in the afternoon.  We had thunder roll through last evening, but didn't get any rain, so we'll see if today brings any.   We turned off the A/C around 7 last night and about 9 opened all the windows - slept that way for the first time this year.  

 

@mamaofami hearing about the critters around you brought to mind a scene from a Disney movie!

@JazzyV thank you for adding DH to the care list, that's so kind of you, but I think this will be ongoing, so he can be moved to the rotation instead.

@1ANGELCAT sending love to your little Ninja cat.

@kazu the fires as we've seen on the news are devastating!!

@dfish One way to check the outlet is to bring in an extension cord and plug in the A/C unit; if it turns on, it's the outlet.  If not, a new A/C unit is in order, but whatever you do, don't use the extension cord to power the unit, as it's a fire hazard.

@marshhawk sorry you're dragging; hopefully you'll rebound soon!

We're off this morning to have breakfast with a couple we haven't seen since they left in October to live in Victoria, BC for the winter.  It'll be good getting together to catch up on things over a leisurely breakfast.  After that there's groceries and then making sure we're home in time to turn on the A/C before it gets too hot.  I'm going to try one of the menu suggestions tonight, but will cook salmon in the air fryer on the deck.  It's looking like salmon, asparagus and a tomato/cucumber salad on the deck tonight.  And wine.

 

Prayers for all who are in need, especially for those affected by the fires and the firefighters, and the people of Ukraine.  Cheers to everyone with celebrations.

    Good Morning from a cloudy and rainy day at the beach

June 1st, start of hurricane season and we started this AM with a very heavy thunder storm. A reminder to check the hurricane supplies.

     Knowing how to do the Heimlick is very important. I have seen it successfully done most recently in the MDR on the Noordam. 

       Say something nice is my motto. One of the reasons this is one of the few posts I read on CC.  Thank You to all of you.

    As I am still restricted, not much on the agenda today.

Good morning. I like all 3 days and the recipe with asparagus,potatoes  and fish.We have not been to the port. Simon and Garfunkel songs were among my favorites  when learning  the guitar.

The Nova Scotia fires have sent smoke  to our area.We had a yellow/orange sunrise earlier.Prayers for those fighting  the fires for containment.It looks so scary .

 

We muddled through last night and today things are somewhat better.I think patients  are sent home a tad too early...Suffice it to say it is

a good thing DH is not a big man and I know how to lift and transfer!

@smitty34877  I agree with you about patients being sent home too early.  It puts a strain on the care givers, but usually the patient wants to be home, where they know their "heart" is.  I hope your DH is doing well today.

 

If you are missing the voices and harmony of Simon and Garfunkel I highly recommend The Milk Carton Kids. And I'm not even sure they are still together.  But I do enjoy the sound of them.  Off to pay bills, and then find food.

Good morning, all! I like today’s saying, but don’t care that much for tilapia. I’ve never been to today’s port under any of it’s names!

Yesterday I finally shortened two pairs of wrap around pants I bought in Rio de Janeiro in 2020. They’ll be perfect for the heat wave forecast for next week. Let’s hope the projects I brought home from our latest travels don’t take as long to tackle!

@ger_77 I hope your DH is doing well and all goes smoothly for you both.

Good morning from a mostly sunny central Texas.  I just noticed some clouds are moving in, but it's not supposed to rain until Saturday afternoon.  Supposed is the operative word in the last sentence.  It is currently 75F with a 7mph wind from the south, so it is a tad bit humid this morning.  A high of 87F is predicted on the hourly forecast, but the daily forecast says 90F.  That is still a lot better than this time last year.

 

Like Jacqui, @kazu I think some changes are more scary than exciting.

 

The Heimlich maneuver has saved countless lives since it was introduced.  I try to always say something nice.  My grandmother's version was, "You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar".  But watch out when a Southerner or Texan says something that sounds nice about someone and ends the sentence with "Bless his heart". 🤣  The DARE program was big in the schools, but I haven't seen or heard it mentioned in several years.  I wonder if it survived the Covid lockdown.

 

We'll pass on the meal, but if I find some other white fish I might give one a try.  I'd prefer a rum Collins, and would like to try the wine if it was not so pricey.

 

We have been to today's port several times when it was called Puerto Chiapas.  I'll look for my pictures in a few minutes.

 

We were sad when Simon and Garfunkel broke up.  I don't remember any of their songs that I didn't enjoy.

 

@superoma  Eva, I hope the meeting with the real estate agent goes well and she suggests a good price for your Dad's house.

@kazu  Jacqui, I hope they are able to contain all the wildfires in the Maritimes quickly.   Please be careful when working outside, drink plenty of water and go inside when it before the temperature gets to high.

@NextOne  Edi, I hope the booster does not cause a bad reaction.

@1ANGELCAT  I hope Ninja perks up and doesn't lose anymore weight.  I'm sure he is missing Fluff.  I meant to say last night that if you don't open the refrigerator while the power is out, most things should stay cold during the power outage.

@cruising sister  Lorraine, I hope the jet lag eases soon.  

@JazzyV  Vanessa, I'm glad your knees held up while you were doing yard work.  Even doing our yard once a week, some muscles remind me that's the only time I use them.  😁

@marshhawk  Annie, I'm sorry about Fawn.  It's hard when they wander off and you have no answer to their fate.

DH had a good exam at the glaucoma specialist’s. His field test showed stable. Stable is great!  His vision loss zones are no worse!  We brought the new tonometer to check against their readings. It’s not really off, maybe just a smidge high, but she had some high readings too, coached him to not hold his breath while doing the measurements. He won’t clear the waitlist for surgery in June- there are others in more urgent need - so he can wait till August 1. I’m very relieved!  Thank you all for your support!  And he is SO much better with fewer meds that he’s down to only 1 Benadryl to take the edge off the itching from the meds. I’m calling that Amazing!  
 

@smitty34877 Hope you got through the night ok. That first day coming home can be nerve wracking. But it’s a new day and praying the recovery goes smoothly. 
 

@marshhawk We also came home from a cruise with COVID to an empty fridge. Got by on canned goods for a while, and a loving neighbor left a bag of what fresh produce she had handy, but eventually the store run is essential. Hope you can do a low energy version. Resting as much as possible seems to be the only way to speed the recovery. Hoping it stays mild, but clinically mild can still be miserable. Sorry you’re without Fawn!  💔

We were in Chiapas once.  I remember it being very hot. I didn’t get beyond the port market but I have a pretty Amber piece on a neck cord that I enjoy as a remembrance. 
 

I’ve successfully used the Heimlich twice, both family members. So scary. 
 

I like tilapia but haven’t had it here… in NM I could get a delicious version at Costco that’s not available here… but here in MD I can get crabcakes 🤣. I go with the flow…. 
 

I’ll take any macarons or macaroons!  I first had macarons at afternoon tea on Carnival Spirit, thought they were heavenly. 
 

Today I have a follow up doctor appt that I totally forgot about, apparently missed getting it on the calendar. I’ll use the chance to get some screenings lined up. Then a very quick supper and off to Kennedy Center to hear Beethoven’s 9th - ta ta ta dum!  I think it’s our last ticket of their season. 
 

Blessings to all in need!  Thanks to @JazzyV. And Especially thinking of all the many impacted by the fires!  It’s really hard for me… I spent too many years doing that. We were evacuated just weeks after we moved full time to our mountain cabin. Had just joined the fire department, we were total newbies!  Became experts over the years in so many aspects of living in fire country and fire response.  We built a fire-hardened house, taught workshops to the community, I wrote fire awareness columns in the local newspaper, DH developed analyses for the fire department to more efficiently shuttle water… worked so many jobs from Initial Attack to staffing Incident Command Posts, Radio Comms, Food Logistics, Weather,  Community, just about everything needed on so many fires, all sizes. Every big fire starts as a small one. Our worse fire raged overnight at faster than an acre a second..  43,000 acres in the first 10 hrs. Friends lost homes. We sifted through their ashes with them. I attended the memorial for the 19 firefighters who died in Arizona, met pregnant widows, felt the reverberation of 150 bagpipe and drum ensembles playing Amazing Grace…. It  was our life’s work for nearly 20 years, all after retiring, all volunteer. And I tear up just thinking of all involved. So when I say my heart goes out to them all… you’ll understand how I mean that. 
 

But 🎉cheers to all celebrating, Life is Good. Every day!  And it’s uplifting to share that with each other here!

I hope you start to heal, and to get your energy back.
 

 Do you have grocery delivery App, so you can order from home, while you rest?   Hoping your boss allows as much time off as needed to recover - no 2 cases are the same.

We have been to Puerto Chiapas three times, and I agree there is not much in the port.  The first time on the Statendam in 2009 we did a tour to the Izapa Archaeological Ruins and then a stop in town.  The next time was in 2014 on the Veendam.  We did a tour that included a stop at a local school and a visit to a banana plantations. Then in 2015, again on the Statendam, we took a van into Tapachula. 

 

Because I have quite a few pictures, I will post the ones from the two Statendam stops here.  Then, I post the pictures from the Veendam on another post.

 

Here are a couple of pictures from the Izapa Archaeological site.  It was interesting, but very hot that day in April.

In 2015, we took a van into Tapachula and just walked around, trying to follow streets we hadn't walked in 2009.  However, all the pictures taken in town are repeats of those others have posted.  That day, the ship treated the crew to a barbeque breakfast/lunch on shore depending on their free time.  It really smelled good.

 

Here are a couple of pictures of the port, and our BHB.

 

The pool looked so refreshing, we were temped to try it.  That was the year we took the Statendam to FLL to meet the Ruby Princess for her 49 day cruise to LA via Cape Horn.  It seemed like a better idea than flying to FLL and then flying from LA to Phoenix.
