I understand that but Chic Night has not actually happened yet. And I have seen plenty of inaccuracies in the app even after the cruise started.

We did 3 cruises last year. X had Evening Chic on all sailings. Evening Chic only applies to the MDR. Not specialty restaurants, Blu or Luminae. I dont know about this year. Maybe it is gone because of Celebrity's new Relaxed Luxury.

We don’t need them too. It’s easy to look up. We know it’s a 6 night. That doesn’t clear everything up. Any decent food has an up charge.

It absolutely does; we now know there is still free lobster if 7 or more nights despite someone claiming its "not on the menu" as they left out they're on a 6 nighter.  What's left to "clear up" with the up charges?  There are now upcharges, it sucks but it's pretty clear

Also, it's important the post #55 author to understand why it wasn't on their sailing so he doesn't spread misinfo that free lobster is gone

LOL not sure the suite is going to matter.  We were in a sky suite on the Apex and to tell you the truth I was not impressed.  I figure for the difference in the price I could eat in the specialties every night.

We actually did this on our last two cruises due to the extreme price increases on the Retreat, but it only really works on 'S' class ships for us as we won't sail in an 'Infinite veranda' cabin due to the way we use the veranda frequently with one of us outside and the other needing AC in the cabin, and of course on 'M' class ships there is only Tuscan and So5 with any variety in the menu.

We were prepared to put up with that for a Japan cruise in 2025 on Millennium, but it feels like the rest of the product is just heading in a downward spiral and having just returned from a MSC Yacht Club cruise where the service was in our opinion considerably superior to the Retreat, for the price of an Aqua cabin, it is making us think long and hard about Japan...

If you look on the next Equinox cruise starting 6/24 it’s over 7 nights and the up charges are there

The app is just showing you the same menus as the current 6 day cruise, go look at day 7 or 8 for example...

how can you see on the app if you aren't booked on the cruise?

Select “select another cruise “ under the title of one of your booked cruises. Slide down to the bottom of your cruises and select “browse our ships”. Select the ship and sail date you want to see.

You can use the app and select switch sailings, which brings up all your bookings and an option to Browse Our Ships.  Select a ship and it gives you the upcoming sailings, select one.

The only real menus the app shows for Equinox main dining are for this week. Next week's menu's show the venues closed for days 7 and beyond; it's a 9 day cruise. For my cruise in November, there are only desserts. No appetizers or entrees. Blu and Luminae are there.

I looked out of sheer boredom at half the fleet for this week; Equinox is the only ship with the upcharges. It's also on a 6 day cruise where lobster wouldn't normally be on the menu, and I really don't know about filet mignon. Oddly enough after all the gnashing of teeth a couple of months ago, prime rib was on the day one menu. No upcharge.

This could be the beginning of a roll out of a major change. It could also be a really dumb marketing decision to "offer" upcharge items that normally wouldn't be on a 6 day cruise. There are no follow on menus to provide a hint one way or another (and may not be until the next group boards on the 24th). Either notion is crappy marketing. Not giving them a pass for that!

Check the app on Saturday.

Thank you I learned something new!  Love CC.  It appears this is only for the Equinox, haven't checked them all but not on Silouette and not on the E class.  But Prime Rib is back - they didn't have it in January on Equinox.  Leads me to believe this is a "trial" - if it were good filet it might be worth it rather than a whole group having to go to the Steakhouse - mixed feelings here

We have 7 cruises booked; 4 suites & 3 veranda.  The  3 verandas may soon be on the chopping block.

I agree...We have Beyond booked for November in a verandah and if the dining room food stinks we maybe canceling future cruises!

  • This is exactly what my DH said. He said what if he wanted a filet mignon or tenderloin, while I was happy with something on the MDR menu. Why pay the upcharge for the limited Murano menu (for example) if we could pay a much smaller upcharge for his steak? As you say, this is even more useful for a group. In truth, there are times I’d rather dine in Murano😜

I for one have been a big proponent of offer better food for an upcharge assuming it didn't replace any complimentary items.  This includes sticking to tiny spiny tail lobsters, I at least hope they're changing to Maine lobsters like RCI and Carnival

A benefit is on a whim you can show up to the MDR and order hopefully a good steak.  Even if you want Murano, unless you're in a suite, good luck getting a same day reservation

I just emailed Executive Office asking about this - if filet and lobster will be served at no charge on one night.  If this is just an additional offer, kind of equating to what you can do in Luminae (at no charge)  I don't think I would mind it.

I do mind not having the classic shrimp cocktail and the option for Salmon taken away since they are my go tos when nothing else sounds good

If that was the only change I would agree, it would be an improvement...

... but it looks like they decided to downgrade the rest of the menu at the same time by reducing the choice from 4 + 1 vegetarian to 3+ 1 vegetarian, and rotating salmon with something else.

Hard to nail down, but it feels like the quality of the proteins has taken a hit as well, not inspiring to see a cheeseburger make it onto the MDR evening menu...

When was your last cruise on X?  I felt this way about our Equinox cruise in January and last month, which was Retreat on the Apex.  IMO what they do is feed you "lesser" proteins the first several days and bring out the somewhat good stuff at the end, assuming you'll forget 🙂

I think upcharges for room service and for decent food in MDR are out and out tacky.  When looking at things through rose-colored glasses, red flags appear to be just flags so I took off my X-colored glasses and by gosh, the flags are red. The entrees on the Eclipse menu I just perused are sad.  I'll check with a zenith concierge tomorrow to see if I can get the correct address for the new CEO (chief product-slasher).  I would truly like to maintain some semblance of loyalty to X but significantly higher prices for significantly diminished product = need to rethink currently booked 2024 X cruises.

Agree! I find this change extremely irritating. And please, don’t even get me started on the turkey thing and the burger. What is this school cafeteria food doing on my dinner menu?

January this year on Eclipse.

We spent most of the time in Murano with 2 Tuscan visits so didn't have much time in the MDR beyond the Chic nights. The MDR food on those nights was decent but nothing memorable.

Only had one Tuscan might planned, but the first one was so bad the Maitre'D insisted on us coming back at no charge to give them a second chance.

Sadly I'd have to say that even Murano came up a bit short with the thing they call lobster ending up about the size of a large langoustine and the service was way off with the same waiter asking us on each of our visits, seated at the same table, if we had eaten their before...

The description of main dining includes this:

This sophisticated restaurant with a wide range of globally-inspired dishes created by a Michelin-starred chef will provide the fine dining experience you love while you’re on vacation.”

I wonder which Michelin-starred chef gets credit for the current offerings?

I think that the Michelin tire man gets all of the credit...
