There is a very well known quote, “ The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one. Perhaps X needs to figure out which is more important.

Tell that to the woke brigade in the UK, the needs of the few far outweigh those of the majority and you dare challenge that and you are a bigot. Celebrity is following what society is and the silent majority has to have its voice heard, sadly it dare not.

You have clearly not been in New York City. It is ubiquitous with people puffing away on the streets and  "sneaking" puffs on the subway, in the movie and Broadway theatres, pretty much everywhere (I even saw someone vaping in St. Patrick's Cathedral the other day when I wandered in as I'd never been there before!).

Agreed, non vapers/smokers are oblivious to people vaping.  Obviously smoking is extremely smelly and obvious, however not necessarily the case with vaping.  People do it EVERYWHERE.
I just got off a Virgin cruise in the Mediterranean and people in the casino, pool, theater, club weren’t even trying to hide it and the staff said nothing. I understand Virgin doesn’t have a stick up they’re a** like some folks and cruise lines, but nobody cared or said anything. It was a very different/great cruise experience.

I would like to point out that for the form letters being received, in such cases and situations where there are massive mail ins about a particular topic, there is no way they can or will provide individual responses to each email.

I agree but thought the wording was off putting.

3.4 % of US population vapes. 30% of US population has cruised.

In theory about 1% of passengers vape.

Well, math doesn't work like that. Assuming these numbers, then If the cruise is entirely US passengers, 3.4% of the passengers vape (on average, subject to the other demographic factors you mention). It doesn't matter how much of the US population cruises for this calculation.

I'm a non-smoker/non vaper.  I am NOT oblivious to vaping.  It does bother me.  There are some type of chemicals and also some scents in there that do bother me.  And no, I don't have a stick up my a$$.  I have a right not to breath it - I also think if someone choose to, they have the right.  I prefer they go to a designated area and do so.

Admittedly--I was pulling that as example.

Vaping is higher worldwide & world population % that cruises is smaller worldwide, but unless I go country by country & we can narrow down socio-economics, pretty tough to get exact #s.

What I'm saying is...a likely very low #, so I am not concerned.

AS I SAID--we shall see.

Vaping is safe 🤣

From Canadian Lung Association

  • The maximum nicotine levels in e-cigarettes in Canada are 66mg/ml. That’s three times what is allowed in the European Union (20 mg/ml) leaving users over exposed to high amounts of nicotine, which may lead to lifelong dependence.  That's like tripling the size of a regular cigarette.

  • E-cigarette vapour contains a number of toxic chemicals. These same chemicals are found in lead paint, gasoline, embalming liquid, wildfire smoke, vehicle exhaust and cigarettes.

They are definitely reading the emails we are sending.  I sent email yesterday morning, and received a reply this afternoon about 5pm Miami time.  The rep asked when I was available for a call tomorrow.  Someone had taken the time to match my letter/email address with my next sailing.   My next sailing on Celebrity isn't until December on Apex, so not bad work.

We had 3 Celebrity cruises in 2021 after the restart, 4 in 2022, and will have 2 in 2023, but of the 9 cruises, 5 of them are in Suite Class.

I explained how Celebrity Cruises have become the vacation of choice for my family.  If they track things right, they will see that starting in 2012, when husband and I discovered Celebrity, we then brought my two young adult (young milennials, now 27 and 29), my mother, and my sister along.  My kids have brought their spouses along, I've brought my father and stepmother along, and my mother and her cousin.  Plus some friends.  Now, we have Alaska booked for 2024 with my daughter, SIL, my SIL's mother and Sister.

We like the product, and one of the biggest reasons is the lack of smoking inside, the handful of exterior spaces.  We also appreciate the care taken with food allergies, as my daughter has a number of them, and she likes to joke that Carnival tried to kill her when someone decided that Terriaki sauce was Soy Free.  🤦‍♂️

I look forward to speaking with their representative tomorrow, and will make sure to remind them that MOST of their target audiance, younger Gen X, Gen Y and Millennials do NOT want to be around Vape sticks.  It is still nasty.

It is 3:45 PM Alaska Standard Time on July 4th.  I just sent my e-mail voicing my unhappiness.  While I doubt it makes much difference I included my Captain's Club number (we are Zenith).  Will be curious as to if/when we receive the form letter response.

How will X deal with guests vaping in their staterooms, which is the next logical situation. On previous X sailings we have had to call Guest Relations because we could smell the cigarette smoke coming through the air ducts from the cabins next door. Smoking in staterooms is illegal, but guests will still try and get away with it.

I

They already are vaping in their staterooms and there is no way for X or other passengers to know about it unless they install cameras in the rooms.

Marketing Director on board ship has requested a conversation with me regarding the feedback I provided on my comment card about the vaping policy change. Will keep you posted.

Ask them when phase 2 of this lab rat experiment starts--permitting tobacco smoking in the Casino. Certainly they will deny it, but I wouldn't believe them. This is the next inevitable step.

please see the thread "vaping on Equinox"

Just griping here will not change things.

Whatever your views email X directly "executiveoffice@celebrity.com".

Be polite and be sure to ask specific questions that need an answer.

Will it get vaping banned?

I don't know but passenger pressure did result in compolsary AI being dropped for all cabins except Aqua and Suites.

Currently vaping is only allowed on two ships (Eclipse and Equinox) as a 8 week test.. Not fleetwide. My post was nothing but a comment saying even if Celebrity goes forward fleetwide as a new policy allowing vaping in the casino, we'll continue to cruise with Celebrity.

Read all of the threads concerning the test of vaping in the casino.  All of them, commented on all of them. I have used and provide that Email address plus another. No lecture needed by you. Way ahead of ya.

Pot smoking is next...

They have some significant hurdles before they could allow pot smoking on ships (US federal laws and the laws of the countries they visit)

They may not allow it,  but if they are allowing vaping and smoking you are going to smell the pot.

I just came back from a Myrtle Beach vacation.  You could smell it in the hotel even though the hotel and state did not allow it.

Cruise lines have a vested interest in keeping it off with the regulations they have to follow.  Myrtle Beach does not (states are quickly legalizing it at least for medical use or at least looking the other way).  Carnival is going so far as to put drug dogs on some of their cruises as well as in the terminals.  Some countries have the drug dogs regularly at their terminals.

LOL.  And Celebrity does not have ships that go to Jamaica 🙂🙂

I have never seen a drug dog on a Celebrity ship.  I seriously doubt that they will be able to keep it off and they are encouraging it.

I have never been sniffed by a dog at a cruise port.

I deal with guest vaping all winter. I understand Federal law prohibits smoking on ships and federal land but with Dab pens and Oil pens guest think they can "vap" anywhere and the smell is disguised.  They try and tell you they are vaping tobacco -- the guest do it while waiting in line. When you inform them that Vaping THC on federal land is illegal most of them are naive. All ages vap THC not just the young.
