Rare cruisestitch Posted October 19, 2023 #2 Share Posted October 19, 2023 There is no way to predict which side of the ship will be facing the dock.
upwarduk Posted October 19, 2023 #3 Share Posted October 19, 2023 (edited) Smoking section is on Deck 5 Port side, so I choose starboard, so I’m not in the line for stray cigarette smoke. We were on Deck 6 most recently. But as the attached photo shows Captain George backed into the port of Vigo, so we saw the dock buildings, from our Balcony. Rare 1025cruise Posted October 19, 2023 #4 Share Posted October 19, 2023 Yes, I would recommend port or starboard. 2

WestLakeGirl Posted October 19, 2023 #6 Share Posted October 19, 2023 I don’t believe aft balcony was the question Between Port and starboard, either is fine as far as the view of the ports. Because smoking is almost always on the port side, you might look on the Starboard side to avoid it 1
Hobbsey Posted October 19, 2023 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2023 The ship docking side is based on many factors such as winds, traffic and mostly which side of the ship needs maintenance or will be used for crew safety training.
Joanne G. Posted October 19, 2023 #8 Share Posted October 19, 2023 On a one-way cruise for which I am booking a balcony, I consider how much sun or shade is likely on each side and make my choice accordingly. It doesn't matter on a round-trip itinerary when you'll get all sun positions over the course of the cruise, nor does it matter to me without a balcony, as there is no way to predict what I will see out the window when docked.
Rare PTC DAWG Posted October 19, 2023 #9 Share Posted October 19, 2023 Red or black? Or Green...that's the aft cabin option. 1

gordylad Posted October 19, 2023 Author #12 Share Posted October 19, 2023 we have always booked AFT however it will be our first time on a M Class ship and we thought we would try a sweet 16 cabins
Loracpin2 Posted October 19, 2023 #13 Share Posted October 19, 2023 This reply is based on standing on our port side balcony in the evening while sailing out of Catania and.......watching Mt. Etna erupt while we were were leaving!!!!
Rare foodsvcmgr Posted October 19, 2023 #14 Share Posted October 19, 2023 On a directional cruise I would pick the side that potentially would offer some scenic cruising, in this case the port side. Your particular one way sailing still offers a mix of directions at times though. Tough call. Whereas on a round trip it makes less difference because the ship turns around at the halfway point. How the ship will face when docked is usually impossible to predict.
gerelmx Posted October 19, 2023 #15 Share Posted October 19, 2023 (edited) In your cruise it's impossible to predict on which side the ship will be docked Edited October 19, 2023 by gerelmx

sunlover33 Posted October 21, 2023 #18 Share Posted October 21, 2023 What’s port or starboard? Thought there were only aft cabins.

If you stand on a ship facing forward port is the left hand side of the ship, starboard the right hand side 🙂
ldubs Posted October 21, 2023 #20 Share Posted October 21, 2023 I think we sometimes tend to overthink things. This might be one of those times.
