I guess the ship can give them a deadline and then just remove it all themselves. Personally, I just don't see the necessity of it. I know some folks enjoy it, but if the cruise line says NO, then why rock the boat over some decor? yeah this would be a strange hill to die on.

On my last cruise saw a one case that might be an example of a safety hazard that was not fire related. One cabin had a couple of smooth plastic signs. One fell off and I saw a person walking down the hallway stepped on it and apparently on carpet it made for a very slippery combination and the person slipped and almost fell, but did manage to catch them self. Saw another room where a person had a lot of decorations and kept shedding during the cruise leaving glitter and paper bits all over the floor, including blowing down the hallway. 4x4bob Posted March 8 #154 Share Posted March 8 Ug. No door decorations. That means at 10:00 or 11:00 PM I will have to stand out in the hallway to help the Wife find our cabin as she comes back from the Casino. 😁 Bob 1

bambooshoot Posted March 9 #156 Share Posted March 9 I enjoy seeing door decorations on cabin doors, but the small and tasteful ones. I imagine the ones Princess is wanting to ban are the large, ostentatious decorations that are actually causing damage to the walls and doors. WTH Kind of hoping Princess doesn't want to attract families with kids!!! there's enough cruise lines out there.. Stosh68 Posted March 10 #164 Share Posted March 10 I wonder how much this has to do with beginning of "election season". Gone are the days where you could put up lawn signs, bumper stickers or where a pin supporting your candidate or cause without having wo worry about your car being keyed, house trashed or being physically threatened or worse. Agree to disagree is a forlorn attitude to a certain percentage of the population and verbally and physically confronting people is becoming more and more common. I can see Princess just not wanting to have to deal with it, and it's just easier for them to ban everything than for them to have to become the arbiters of what is or isn't acceptable, especially when 95+% of the crew aren't from the USA and don't know, care or want to involved in anything political involving guests. It's easy for us to say, sure no "Vote for XXX" signs. I see plenty of Canadian flag stickers on doors, and nobody gets offended by that. But what happens when somebody puts up an Israel or Palestine flag sticker that we all know will "offend" a percentage of the population? You can't possibly expect Princess to have a list of acceptable and unacceptable country magnets. I'm not saying I agree or disagree, I've never decorated my door, but I've considered it for future cruises. I'm just saying I can understand why Princess would say no door decorations and say it's because of a fire hazard, because it's easier to give "fire hazard" as a public reason instead of "We've found that more and more people have stopped acting civilized over material put on doors, and we're tired of having to get security involved over a bunch of upset Karen's and Kevin's.

Pretty sure “election year” is not a huge thing for this global cruise company. As a reminder, there’s many countries where Princess ships are sailing where it’s not currently an election year. And where many people sailing on the ships aren’t American.

Daniel A Posted March 10 #173 Share Posted March 10 Often times, rules are made to be used as a tool only when needed. As an example, when alcohol is prohibited in public parks. Nobody bothers someone having a beer with your lunch at a picnic table, but when rowdy drunk groups bring a keg to a park, the rulebook gets pulled out and the drunk rowdies are told to leave. This preserves the peaceful enjoyment of the park for others. I didn't have time to read through 7 pages of responses, but I did not see where the OP wrote what the door decoration specifically displayed. Does anybody know what exactly was on the door decoration? Before anybody says I'm accusing anybody else of anything, I'm just wondering if the OP's decoration content was causing an issue for others. I don't know. 🤷♂️

It appears there was a zealous new crew member trying to make an impression by enforcing a little known policy in an inconsistent manner.

I would agree with you if it was in a public area but walking down the cabin corridor, I would just ignore it. That wouldn't have an affect of my enjoyment on my cruise at all and if it bothered me that much, I wouldn't look towards that cabin door as I walked by.
