Rare ottahand7 Posted April 25 #27 Share Posted April 25 Good morning everyone. Thanks to Sandi and @aliaschief for the beautiful sunny photos to start our days. Thanks for the Daily and maps Roy, Rich and Sandi. I will recognize my hairdresser for sure if I was visiting her today. East meets West day was very important at the end of WWII in Europe. John has been celebrating DNA day quite a bit since he got his results back from his DNA test, he has found a hobby working on his family's genealogy. A good project for these cold days we have been having. I will pass on the shrimp and the cocktail but a SB wine is always refreshing. I look forward to everyone else's photos of Santorini. Cute phot of Oliver @Seasick Sailor. Thanks for the Cares and Celebrations reports Vanessa. I hope that you made it upstairs to you bed and had your fist good night of sleep in it in a very long time. Prayers for everyone in war zones, Ukraine, Israel and the innocents in Gaza. Prayers for safe travels home and rapid healing for your DH @RMLincoln. Prayers for Tana, @smitty34877 I am happy you have had some extra help and a good visit with your family. Today is going to the meat sale at our grocery store that has a large fresh cut meat market. T-bones, Porterhouses and rib eyes are on my list, usually the wait for one's number to be called is an hour. I will go to their garden center next door and shop during my wait. Frost happened last night but it wasn't a hard freeze so I hope the orchard owners dodged the danger with their fans. An exciting night, the first round of the NFL Draft. Ravens pick late unless they trade forward or trade their first round pick for more in the later rounds. That has happened quite a bit, waiting until our pick and they have traded back. Have a lovely Thursday. Nancy 23
Seasick Sailor Posted April 25 #28 Share Posted April 25 Good morning Daily-ites Thinking of everyone recovering (and go girl Vanessa!) Hoping Chuck keep improving. I'm sorry Tana took another turn. I'm thankful you have family right now to help so you can catch a 2nd wind. This morning is bloodwork for sweet husband, then market. I'm serving ribs for girl's night. 😋 Thank you for thinking of Allen. It will take a few more days for his injection to kick in, but we are optimistic! Sending you each a special blessing and wishing you a wonderful day! ❤️ 23

dfish Posted April 25 #30 Share Posted April 25 Good morning! It is a really chilly start to the day at 26F here in mid-Michigan. It will get up to the mid 50s with abundant sunshine. I have a luncheon with former high school classmates today. That is followed by a haircut with a new stylist. I have not been happy with the old one. It was just not a good fit. @ger_77 Happy Birthday to Maurice! Today's meal sounds delightful. Anything that is garlicky gets my attention. This one is low carb and makes for a great healthy meal. And super easy to make as well! https://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/7919492/one-pot-garlicky-shrimp-broccoli/ This next one is very similar but does have a few differences. https://cleanfoodcrush.com/easy-shrimp-garlicky-broccoli-skillet/ This last recipe is quite a bit different. There is a sauce that has honey, soy sauce and ginger in it. https://thesaltymarshmallow.com/garlic-shrimp-and-broccoli/ I think I'm sticking with #1. Wishing you all a wonderful day! 12

Rare 0106 Posted April 25 #32 Share Posted April 25 Happy World Penguin Day! I have managed to edit my 100s of penguin pictures down to about 20; these are my favorites taken at Volunteer Point on an Adventure Falkland (Patrick Watts) tour. Although it was 50 miles from Stanley we saw over 4,000 King penguins and many thousands of Gentoo & Magellanic penguins. There were hundreds of big, brown, fluffy King penguin chicks too. Our Land Rover with 4 passengers drove in a convoy. The driver was excellent, particularly his knowledge of the Islands, its history, topography and wildlife. I highly recommend this experience if you ever lucky enough to tender into the Stanley port. Positive thought to those who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising. 25
kochleffel Posted April 25 #33 Share Posted April 25 Mexican Coffee If the name of today's drink made you think of Irish coffee, you were on the right track, and you might be able to guess how it's made. 1 fluid ounce coffee-flavored liqueur (such as Kahlua®) ½ fluid ounce tequila 5 fluid ounces hot coffee 2 tablespoons whipped cream (some versions use plain cream) Stir together coffee liqueur and tequila in a mug. Pour in hot coffee and top with whipped cream. 13
Rare Haljo1935 Posted April 25 #34 Share Posted April 25 (edited) Good collection of days. My relationship w/my hairstylist pre-dates my husband; we do cherish our miracle workers. Pass on the meal (shrimp), would try the drink & wine, Santorini pictures are on the computer, so I won't be posting but we were there June 2017 and thought it was beautiful. Thank you Mr Waldseemuller for putting America on the map. Prayers for the family of the young man (18yo) killed in yesterday's school shooting and for the students & staff of the school. I don’t know the answer, but school tragedies are so heartbreaking & need to stop. @ger_77 happy birthday to DH.🎂 prayers the procedure happens soon. Currently 70° headed to 79°, rain moves in tonight. Prayers 🙏 and positive thoughts for all. Edited April 25 by Haljo1935 Typo

Quartzsite Cruiser Posted April 25 #36 Share Posted April 25 (edited) Good morning from a cloudy and breezy central Texas. It is currently 68F with a predicted high of 78F. We have a 9mph wind with 96% humidity and a dew point of 67F. It will be cloudy all day with higher winds and rain beginning early tomorrow morning and lasting most of the day. It looks like we'll be getting rain off and on through the weekend and possibly through Wednesday. The main item on the agenda today is a trip to W-M to pick up the prescriptions from our annual doctor visits. DNA is useful in many different ways, and DH had his done as part of a nation wide research study at Baylor Scot and White. He is still waiting to get his results. Elba Day marked the beginning of the end of WWII. I like both my hairstylists, one here and one in Quartzsite. I need to call her today to make an appointment for a haircut. I basically agree with the Tom Wilson quote, but you need goals for tomorrow. The meal looks good, and I think I'd like the third recipe, but will check out all the recipes. We like shrimp, broccoli and garlic. We'll pass on the drink and the wine. We have been to Santorini twice on BHBs, Prinsendam and Veendam. In 1507, cartographer Martin Waldseemüller gave the New World its identity when he first used the term America. @MISTER 67 Congratulations on another round where you shot one under your age. I sorry the rest of the team did not have as good a day. @smitty34877 Terry, I'm sorry Tana had a couple of rough days. It is nice your DDIL could calm the situation down. Wishing the family safe travels tomorrow as they head back to NH. @aliaschief Bruce, thank you for the stunning pictures of Dubai. I hope we get there someday. It was on the two world cruises we had to cancel. @RMLincoln Maureen, safe travels up I-95 today. I hope you miss all the heavy rush hour traffic. @0106 Tina, thanks for the Penguin pictures. @Seasick Sailor Joy, cute picture of Oliver. @grapau27 Graham. thank you for the explanations of the days. aliaschief Posted April 25 #37 Share Posted April 25 Just now, Nickelpenny said: @aliaschief Did you happen to go to Ibn Battuta Mall? It was my favorite one. And I see you were at the Marina. The architecture in Dubai is amazing IMO! Glad you had a good time there. The mall we went to was named Dubai Mall on the outdoor sign. If it has another name I cannot remember on our whirlwind excursion.
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted April 25 #38 Share Posted April 25 We have been to Santorini twice on BHBs. In 2016, we were there on Prinsendam. That day, we took the gondola up to Thira and walked around a little but it was very crowded. We stopped at a restaurant near the gondola entrance and enjoyed a coke and the view. The line back down looked long, but moved fast. These are the pictures of Thira from 2016. The gondola, which for us beat the steps. While I'm not fond of gondolas, it was the steps getting to and out of the cars that bothered me. The steps down fairly up close and then a long view of the entire trail. The area around the tender dock I'll post the pictures from our second visit in a few minutes. Lenda 20
marshhawk Posted April 25 #39 Share Posted April 25 (edited) Good Thursday Morning Dailyites! Its 55 and sunny-the weatherman said it will go up to the upper 70's. I can turn the heater off on the porch, and let the indoor cats sit in the window sill and chatter at the birds at the bird feeder. However, DH pointed out to me that we need to make a trip to W-M to get laundry detergent, and dishwashing detergent, but no dog walking! Donna is off for the next two days! Yeah! In fact I looked out the window and she is out walking her dog right now! @smitty34877I am so glad that the NH family came down and gave you a hand this past week. I hope you were able to catch up on some sleep this week, and that something was worked out with the night time assistance for the future. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers every day. Santorini-When we booked out cruise last year, this was one port that we decided that due to DH's vision, and the amount of stairs I kept seeing in Dailyites photos, that we would go into port, and stay in port. There were 5 major cruise ships in port and two smaller ones, and port and town were packed with people. From the tender-the mule and walking trial, with the gondola to the left These building were along the water line - Where do these doors lead to? And how do you get to the doors? I know this is not a scenic picture, but I am always amazed how Mother Nature can make something grow, any where she wants Looking back to the top of the island Edited April 25 by marshhawk 22
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted April 25 #40 Share Posted April 25 In 2019, the Veendam took us to Santorini for our second visit. We opted to take a ship's tour that included the Minoan ruins, Oia and Thira. Akrotiri was Cycladic cultural settlement related to the Minoan culture. The village was destroyed by the volcano in the 16th century BCE. The village, named for the nearby modern village of Akrotiri, is well preserved and is still being excavated. The first excavations were in 1867. A couple of stops on the way to Akrotiri. The first was a roadside chapel, the second the view from the road, and finally ruins of an old windmill. Pictures of some of the ruins, which fortunately are under a cover to protect them and us from the sun. It is hard to tell, but the site is huge. Oia near where the bus dropped us off. The church and views from Oia We had quite a bit of free time in Oia, and after wandering through most of the upper part of Oia, we found a nice place to sit and enjoy gelato. This view. I think, is Oia from the Veendam. Lenda 21
kochleffel Posted April 25 #41 Share Posted April 25 I can't help thinking of Fred Small's song "At the Elbe." Pass on the meal, with prejudice (shrimp). Also pass on the drink for now (Passover). For a Sauvignon Blanc, Hosmer 2021. I've been to Santorini but don't have pix handy. Rather full day today: groceries, blood donation, and the last class of the semester, with our Nature Appreciation slideshows. I don't expect any of the snacks at the blood donation to be kosher for Passover. Actual dinner will be a tofu and bok choy stir-fry, with brown jasmine rice. Jews of Ashkenazi background don't eat either tofu (or any legumes) or rice during Passover, but I switched to Sefardi rules for Passover almost a decade ago. 22 2
ger_77 Posted April 25 #42 Share Posted April 25 Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily! Yay for our DNA, thanks for the explanation of East Meets West Day, and oh my, what would we do without our hairstylists? I think Covid showed what would happen. LOL Thank you all for your wonderful wishes for DH's birthday; yes, my Honey Bunny (yes, I really call him that) turns 83 today. After his first heart attack in 1993, subsequent stents, sextuple bypass, pacemaker implant, and now waiting for an aortic valve replacement, I am truly blessed to have had him for all these years. He said the other day with all the replacement parts he's got inside, he's likely to never die! When he gets up I'll tell him each of your names and locations so he can know what a caring online family we have. @JazzyVI hope you had another restful night. @Haljo1935I'm sorry you had to cancel your cruises - that's always a difficult decision, but our health comes first. @Cruzin TerriI hope you get some answers from the doctor this morning; I can't imagine receiving a prescription without instructions. @RMLincolnwhat great news about your DH's eye operation - even though the day will be filled with drops, etc., at least you know the initial outcome is good. @marshhawkI'm glad to hear Chuck's cancer is in remission, but disappointed to know his pain is so great. I do hope the pain clinic will give him relief. @smitty34877I'm sorry to hear Tana has had more difficulties, but so glad you've got extra bodies in the house to help relieve the strain from your shoulders. Later this morning we'll go out for breakfast to a hotel that is along the river - not the same one as we went to for our anniversary, but with equally nice views. After that there's a plant sale at one of the grocery stores where I'm sure a few Boston ferns will find their way into the back of the car. Once home, they'll have to stay on the glassed in deck, as there's no way I'll keep them outside at this time of year. The afternoon will be open for the birthday boy to rest, then we're meeting his adult kids and son-in-law at the casino a short distance from the city. I'll buy dinner and after that DH can enjoy some time trying to win our fortune at the slot machines. We've been to Santorini 3 times, and have photos just like those posted - great memories, as each of the times there weren't huge numbers of people there. I'd like to try the drink of the day, will let others enjoy the SB, and for the menu suggestion, you had me at "garlicky". Tonight though, we'll be enjoying a lovely meal at the casino - which has had some very good ratings lately - that someone else will cook and serve for me. And wine. Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, and in turmoil. Cheers to all with celebrations going on today. Smooth Sailing! ☺️☺️☺️ Gerry 28

It is currently 3.10 pm and Nieuw Statendam arrived in Funchal, Madeira around 8 am this morning. Also in port are Norwegian Star, Windstar Star Pride and National Geographic Enduance, which is at anchor. It is a national public holiday today. shadow 123 Posted April 25 #47 Share Posted April 25 4 hours ago, StLouisCruisers said: Santorini Greece. I'm only posting photos from our first time there because they would probably all be the same. In fact the third time we stayed on the ship. I believe the weather wasn't great that day. In 2012 we stopped at Santorini for the first time on Crown Princess. Once we made our way to the top using the gondolas, we walked to the local bus station and boarded a bus headed to Oia. This stop was in late November so the crowds weren't terrible. Along the way the view of the island and coastline. Once in Oia we did what we all do, walk around and take photos. Here is the blindingly white church. Everything there is blindingly white! Anything not white seems to be Santorini blue. I like to take photos of doorways. After our nice visit to Oia we rode the bus back along the two lane winding road to Fira. Another ride down on the gondolas and a tender over to the ship. A beautiful stop on our Greek Isles cruise.😎 So beautiful. I have a cruise to go there next year in October. 14

cunnorl Posted April 25 #49 Share Posted April 25 Good Morning from a warm and sunny day at the beach I love my hair stylist. He has been cutting my hair for almost 30 years. He is in Orlando but I still drive back to see him. He does DD`s hair too and is so patient with her. The meal suggestion sounds good. Will have to give it a try. Never been to todays port, but would like to. Thanks for the pictures. @ger_77 A very Happy Birthday to Maurice. May he enjoy many more. We went to trivia last nite. There were about 90 people there. Good range of questions and a good format. Limited to tables of 8. We won! The prize was a 9 hole round of golf each or a free drink. We had our choice. So of course I took the golf. DH did also and was told he could give it to me. Yeah! Our group of 8 have been playing together for about years. 1 couple is heading north for the summer. So we were joking that we had to audition the replacements. All fun. Going to lunch today with 2 other board members to discuss the library budget for next year. It will be interesting. Hope at least the food is good! LOL. @smitty34877 Glad that your family is there to help. Not easy doing what you do day after day. I admire you and your family. Stay safe and enjoy today Charlene 20
