Thank you for today’s FR & D, Rich!  It is a glorious morning here. Almost cool! But we had some wild storms yesterday afternoon. Coming back from Jacksonville on 95 wasn’t particularly fun. I am so thrilled I don’t have to do that every day.

My visit to the Continuous Care Community was a bit overwhelming, but so informative. I love the outdoors and this community was developed in an amazing area. We saw turtles, a Blue Heron and a large white crane just in our short trip around. And one of the gentlemen we met was watching for “the manatee”.  So lots to think about as I tour a couple closer to me.

Vanessa, glad you can do your maneuver today and hope this will eventually cure it. Thank you for taking such great care of our lists!

Gym, Bindi walks, chores, foraging for food at my departing neighbor’s (I hope there isn’t much left), and wrapping up the day at my local wine bar.

Prayers for all who need our support. Dixie, Bonnie, Tana, Terry, Annie, Chuck, Terri, Jim, Jacqui. And all our caregivers.

Cheers to all who are celebrating!  Please wish Dennis a Happy Birthday, Sandi!

May we each find a reason to smile today!

Brooks 2019 Bois Joli Riesling (Eola-Amity Hills)

I guess I need to try this Willamette Valley Riesling. But if I don’t like it, I will just move along to dry Rieslings, which are my current faves. A decent number of distributors with online prices starting at $20.90.

Wine Enthusiast 95

If you can't bring yourself to love this medium-dry Riesling, you need to move along to the next grape. Its primary aromas of apricots, Meyer lemons and thyme dance nicely with traces of petrol and earthy petrichor. The lemon curd, white tea, guava and tonic-water flavors are complemented by a wee bit of talc. The Bois Joli's acidity will impress even the most jaded palate.

Good morning.  Thanks for the Report.

The internet was down for a while, but it's back now. 🙂  A cool morning, only 10C (50F) when Bertie and I went for a walk.  A lovely, peaceful time of the day.

Three good days to celebrate.

Love the quote.

The meal, drink and wine sound fine to me.

I've never been to today's port.

Prayers for everyone on the Care List.

Have a great day.

Good morning, everyone!

It isn't as cold out this morning as it was yesterday.  We are promised sunny skies and a high of 82.  I have yoga this morning and a bone density scan this afternoon.  Sue and River are going to the county fair.  So, another busy day, but hopefully not as expensive a day as yesterday.

@StLouisCruisers Happy Birthday to Dennis!

Today's meal would make a nice side dish to the filet mignon.  This is kind of like making pesto from zucchini instead of basil.  Roasting the zucchini first gives it a good depth of flavor.  Pasta with Zucchini Sauce

Pastawithzucchinisauce1.thumb.jpg.5b044d47bcaa8e8a27f664496250e9b4.jpg

This next one does use real cream in the sauce and adds in some corn to really enjoy a carb laden full fat treat.  You can add in other vegetables if you wish and chicken or shrimp for a protein.  Pasta with Creamy Zucchini Sauce

pastawithzucchinisauce2.thumb.jpg.eaa72a567d183adcd767cfbf593a49d3.jpg

This is another full fat recipe.  The low fat one is the first recipe.  This recipe adds some lemon juice and lemon zest to the sauce to brighten the flavor a bit.   Creamy Zucchini Pasta Sauce

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Good morning. The cable conduits were laid without issues. Not so for next door neighbor who lost power for a couple of hours but our power company was quick to respond.

Just some menial chores today and other than that another day in the neighborhood. School started yesterday so the arrival of the school bus is again my morning alarm clock.

We will probably go to vote this morning and get that out of the way. Some good choices and a couple not so good IMO.

Thanks for the reports and post. B.

Good Tuesday Morning Dailyites!

@summer slope Good luck with th surgery today!  Hope all goes well.

@StLouisCruisersPlease wish Dennis a very Happy Birthday!

On Sunday we did get to Penny's for a dip, perhaps her idea of warm and my idea of warm are too different things, but in the afternoon, her pool is in complete shade by 2,  Chuck even got in the pool, walked around the edge, and got out.  Too cold.  I just stayed in until I wrinkled and then sat in the shade,.  Chuck suggested that we go over in the morning when the sun is shining on the pool, but Penny is not a morning person.  Her husband Jesse is, but he doesnt swim.

We came home, watched some of the end of the Olympics, and then sat there and said, "well,  now what do we do ?".  I switched the tv to Britbox and found a new-to us new-series called The Good Ship Murder.  So far, a one year series about a former cop, now lounge singer, and the 1st officer, solving murders together.  A great way to see the Mediterranean, and a very pretty ship.  In each port they have a murder to solve.  If any one has watched, or will watch, what ship is that?  Too big for me, but very pretty.

Yesterday DH went for his immunotherapy, but once they looked at the swelling in his arms did not do the immunotherapy.  They put it off for three weeks, to see if its the Keytruda is creating the edema.  They also scheduled another PET scan.  They want to know where the cancer is right now, if continuing to use the Keytruda outweighs the swelling in the arms, and if the swelling is caused by the Keytruda.  The PET scan is for the 4th of September, and the return for the immunotherapy is September 9th.  They asked if that day was OK, and I said it may not be something he wants to do on our anniversary, but since he can't remember that it is our anniversary, that works fine.

I wanted to get back on line yesterday, but when I sat down after work, I remembered that I still had chores to do.  Tonight I work until 11, hopefully all chores today will be done by 6, except the walking of the dog.  Ee gads, at least the boss tonight has a dog and understands.

Our stray cat Collard was injured yesterday in his right front leg, and I cleared the kittens off the porch and put him on the porch.  He slept well, but is anxious to get off the porch, one more day, I told him this morning. Not sure if he knows about using a litter box.... I will post my Seattle pictures in a few minutes.  I hope you are all having a great day, and @kazu please stay safe today!  Maybe one of your neighbors will let you hang out at their house with Ivan.

I'm in favor of all three of the special days. Not very interested in the pasta or the drink. I used to live in the part of Oregon that the wine comes from, but before this winery was founded. I could substitute the 2020 Semi-dry Riesling from Keuka Lake Vineyards (the grapes are actually grown at Seneca Lake), $19. "The fruit for our Semi-Dry Riesling has been sourced from a grower along the lower east side of Seneca Lake. This food-friendly wine is balanced medium dry to offset its natural acidity. Notes of apple and pear."

I've visited Seattle any number of times, not as a cruise port, although I stayed there overnight in both directions for a trip on the AMHS in 2021.

1918 First Woman enlists in the United States Marines

During World War II, my mother became engaged to a man who enlisted in the Marine Corps. When he was due to be shipped out, she went to Camp Lejeune to marry him, but changed her mind. She didn't want to go home, so tried to enlist in the Marines herself. Fortunately for both her and the Marines, she failed the medical.

I slept fitfully last night and woke with a fever. I'm going to go back to bed; if I feel the same later, I'll be on the way to urgent care.

Good morning from another mostly sunny day in Central Texas.  It is 78F at 7:30am with a 7mph wind from the SSE that is not moving the neighbor's flag.  We have 92% humidity with a dew point of 76F.  The predicted high is 99F, but the long range forecast says 101F.  Either way it will be hot this afternoon.

An interesting quote from Carl Jung.

My mother was a lefty, and even though I'm a righty, I can use my left had for some things.  A good fillet mignon would be good if I had some in the freezer.  We have a bottle of Prosecco in the refrigerator.

I think we'll skip today's zucchini meal and the drink.  These different mojitos to me are like the pseudo martinis are to Paul @kochleffel.  I'll stick with a regular mojito.  I would like to try the wine if it's truly medium-dry since the one I drink is also from the same area.

We have been in Seattle many times, and I'll retrieve my pictures in a few minutes.

A good day in 1918 when the first woman joined the Marines.  From experience, women Marines are just a tough.  One of my journalism professors was a Lt. Colonel in the Marine Reserves,  She also worked on the Corpus Christi newspaper in the summers, and some of the male reporters said she'd go down to the docks at night when they wouldn't.  She was a good teacher too.

This day in 1521 was not a good day for the Aztecs.  The beginning of the Manhattan project in 1942 was important.

@summer slope  Best wishes for an easy and successful cataract surgery today, Dixie.

@cunnorl  Charlene, enjoy your tour in Iceland.

@smitty34877  Terry, I'm glad you have the aide to help during the week.  I hope the teenager has a fun, safe and injury free football season.

@kazu  Jacqui, I'm sorry you are now dealing with dizziness.  I hope reducing the dosage on the medicine continues to help.  Stress could also be a factor, so I hope with all the showings you have scheduled your house will sell quickly.

@cat shepard  Ann, I hope you find the perfect continuous care community.  As a fan of TBBT, I loved the soft kitty meme.

@marshhawk  Annie, I'm glad you both got some relaxing time at Penny's Sunday.  I'm sorry the swelling was too much and prevented your DH from getting his infusion.

@kochleffel  Paul, I'm sorry you have a fever and are still feeling bad.

Last night, our local PBS station aired a segment of Rick Steve's show from Iceland where he toured the entire island.  It was fun seeing many of the places we visited.  If your PBS station airs that show, it's worth watching.

This is what I posted on May 22, 2021, from our visits to Seattle.

I found some (actually a lot of) pictures from Seattle.  We have done the 14-day Alaska out of there four times, always doing 2 to 4 b2bs.  In 2010 and 2012, we did most of our touring of the city, and had good weather.  In 2015 and 2018, except for one day, we stayed on the ship (Statendam and Zaandam) and sat in the Ocean Bar watching the new passengers board, and the luggage and stores being loaded.  It was like having our own private (BIG) yacht.

Flying in and out of Seattle on clear days, the pilots gave us a bird's eye view of Mt. Rainier.

In 2012, we had a coupon book for Seattle and Victoria similar to the Alaska Tour book, so we covered a lot of ground on our two port days there.  These first pictures were taken on our cruise from Union Lake through the locks to downtown Seattle.

And the Amsterdam as we sailed passed

The next time in Seattle, we took the Ho-Ho and toured Underground Seattle.  The tour took us through some of the old places from early Seattle that are now below street level and below the modern buildings.

September 2016, seems forever ago, but we flew into Seattle for several days before our first Alaska cruise-  We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, which looks like an apartment building, very long hall ways.

The trains stations to town all had an artistic expression-

Good morning Dailyites

Dam, it's another 100 degree day.

Sandi a Birthday hug for Dennis!

Happy Anniversary John and Maria @Copper10-8

Dixie prayers for your eye surgery.

@kochleffel Paul, maybe it's time to go to Urgent Care.

@JazzyV Vanessa, please remove my DN dad from the care list. He's home with a caregiver now. Thank you.

@kazu Jacqui, darn it. Of all our friends here, you need the most bubblewrap. Hoping you get a FPO from one of your 4 showings today.

Debbie @dfish I could love any of the 3 recipes. I love creamy pasta.

Yesterday I made my turkey thighs in the crock pot. Added creamy mushroom soup, mushrooms, onions and fresh veggies. Allen wanted bratwurst.. jeez

I have been to Seattle countless times. We had NCL and HAL cruises. I was on many trips to Boeing Field. That was one of the rainiest city's.

Thank you for prayers for my sis. Her surgery is on the 20th.

Sending each of you a special blessing today.

Thank you Rich, thank you Debbie, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work.  And thank you everyone for being here!

After our being on the Cares List for the past week over Sam, today DSIL is in the Rotation List for her upcoming Thoracic Surgery. But - that will be delayed. Late Sunday afternoon while out for a walk in our neighborhood she fell and broke her ankle. It is a trimalleolar fracture so somewhat serious in the long term at 75. The swelling needs to stop before they can do surgery. She was admitted to the hospital as it would be difficult immediately to prep the house but may be moving to a rehab facility short term providing there is sufficient insurance coverage, She will see the Orthopedic surgeon on Friday so we will know more then.

Stay Safe, and prayers for those in need.

- Jack

A beautiful city.

Annie, thanks for your pictures.  I am not a fan of heights, but the Space Needle is not too bad.  If I'm inside, towers and observation decks don't bother me.  Thanks for adding the pictures from the Museum of Flight.  We've talked about going there, but haven't made it yet.

Joy, best wishes for our sister's surgery next Tuesday.

- Jack

Jack, I'm sorry our DSIL broker her ankle.  I hope the surgical repair heals easily and quickly.

Good morning everyone.  Thanks for the daily updates.  It going to be another nice day for visiting family and friends.  Last evening we had dinner at DBIL’s home in Eden Prairie.  As the father of the groom this weekend he’ll have to make a speach, a task that he’s not looking forward to.

Hats off to all of you lefties, I envy your ability to use your left hand.  I like the other two days as well.

The quote is a great way of describing that spark that people experience when meeting “the one”.

I like the meal suggestion and the drink sounds interesting, I’ve never had dragonfruit.

I’ve been to today’s port several times, once as the start of our vacation to Glacier National Park on the Empire Builder.

Prayers to those on our prayer list.  Cheers to those who are celebrating happy events today.  Happy birthday to @StLouisCruisers’s DH!

@marshhawk Thank you for the photo of the Coast Guard helicopter a t The Museum of Flight. It is a Sikorsky HH-52A "Seaguard," and, while not an airedale, I had my one-and-only helicopter ride in one while in the the CG while one day doing helo drills. I was hoisted using the rescue basket, flown for a short time over the area, and then dropped back down on the small boat deck. One of my fondest memories!
