Closed to 3 PM on sea day or port days? Why would people go on cruises just to buy art instead of going onshore?

I have a cousin who goes on a quilting cruise every year. They spend their sea days in one of the conference rooms cutting and sewing, And on port days they visit the sights in each town, sometimes museums, and sometimes quilt shops.  She says it combines two things that she loves. I imagine that’s how the Park West customers feel.

How many people spend a lot of time in the Sky Lounge?  My guess is that it doesn’t hold a couple of thousand and most don’t use it.

We enjoy a pre dinner drink in the sky lounge hopefully overlooking the ocean.

And especially on cool weather cruises its a great place to read and contemplate the ocean.

No forward facing space was a big disappointment in E class and we would be equally disappointed if we were shut out of the sky lounge for long periods of the day/evening.

I hope everyone affected makes their feelings known both at customer services and in the after cruise survey

we are booked on Silhouette (short cruise), APEX (7 nights), and Eclipse.(7 nights)

Will APEX be the only one of those ships not impacted by Park West's  takeover of space?

What other spaces on the non E class ships are  available or being used for events and get togethers...other than the pool deck?

The Upper lounges have great views, a nice bar and lots of space..Often .used for gen activities ..Closing them off to benefit Park We$t will be a big loss to gen cruise population.!

I have asked and they will not tell me if this is going to happen ever again, and if it will affect any other ships

We expressed our concerns, disappointment and frustrations with all the closures of Sky Lounge to the Hotel Manager in writing.

Below is the response.

Looks like the typical large corporation canned template. Something I would expect in a script that some CSR would read to you when call with a customer service related issue.

Cheers

Good on you for taking the time to write and express your opinion. Hopefully many more will do as well. Their response is a little disappointing…

That's hilarious!  I received the same letter from a different hotel director, on a different ship, after sending a letter about a different complaint.

I guess it’s Celebrity’s response to someone who complains, comments, requests or advises you to do something you have no intention of doing!

High dollar art and Parkwest do not belong in the same sentence!  Parkwest and Tupperware maybe with apologies to my beloved Tupperware.

Quasar is empty all day and there is a large conference room next door to the Sky Lounge on 14. Why the heck not use either of those spaces? I would think Celebrity Central is too small.  Perhaps you could get a group together and see the Hotel Director in person as a group. This is really outrageous, closing off a very popular venue to all other paying guests.

Thank you for taking the time to write. I am one of those who uses the sky lounge every single sea day...it has the best view of the ocean and the best light for knitting.

I don’t know about what’s happening eclipse, but here on silhouette, Quasar is not empty all day.  There are activities scheduled there throughout the day. And the large conference room is being used for the storage of the special artwork that they brought on board specifically for these auctions .

Interesting. I have not been on Silhoutte in a few years, nor on Eclipse ever, but I've been on Equinox several times in the past 4 years and don't recall ever seeing any activities held in Quasar during the day. My guess is they are using Quasar for activities usually held in Sky Lounge.

Quasar on my last cpl cruises on silhouette was used by activity team all the time. 3 cruises on last 7 months  I wandered into sky lounge a few times and it was pretty much empty except at night. Yes a few people in there mostly sleeping. Don’t blame celebrity for renting out space  it’s there ship and they can.  Hopefully all the people outraged they go elsewhere.   Tho I like seeing supposably grown adults have a temper tantrum.   You can criticize park west but it brings in money to the cruise line otherwise it would not be there.

Do we know which cruises are impacted by this? How do we find out if our upcoming cruise will be affected?

I know of no way to find out if your cruises are affected after this sequence of five on silhouette of which I am on number two.

The lengths that Celebrity will go to,  to make an extra buck ...

I wonder what the cost is to rent out the Sky Lounge for most of the cruise?

Note that they are not doing this to E class ships and Eden.

Eden has its own group that takes over at times. I’m just glad they left the Sunset Bar.

I dabble a little in the casino just to have a bit of fun - I don't expect to win a lot if at all - it's just a little adrenaline rush to pass the time.  It blows my mind how people will gamble a lot on ships when the odds are so very awful compared to land casinos.  For example, my go to game is video keno.  In Vegas, if you hit a certain amount of numbers you may win $1175.   On the ship for that same scenario you win $250 - big difference!  But some do. And some win "free" cruises for their efforts, but those free cruises likely cost them double what they've donated onboard.

My bets on the craps table pay exactly the same as any land based casino.
