We are so sorry to hear about this incident that has occurred on your sailing. We have contacted the Celebrity Summit team and they have confirmed that our security department has found the items this morning. A crew member will be reaching out to you directly to return your son's belongings.

We hope you enjoy the remainder of your sailing!

Excellent! I am happily surprised that Celebrity responded on this board. Confirms our feeling that Celebrity is an excellent cruise line!

Wow, totally impressed. Thanks for posting this information on Cruise Critic.

I started reading this thread after the items were found, but I wanted to say that I feel your pain. Some of those video games are very expensive and others even difficult to find regardless of the price. Plus, there's the emotional issue of feeling like your private "stuff" has been violated. A 7-year-old is not really equipped to understand why someone would take their belongings.

I'm sad to hear about this happening on a cruise ship. I just want to add to the conversation that this should be a warning to all of us to be really careful with our belongings. We're lulled into a false sense of security because of the apparent camaraderie we feel on cruises, but this report goes to show you that we have to be our guard all the time.

Thanks for the warning and congratulations that you got your games back. I hope otherwise it was a great cruise!

Did they ever find the thief?

Not enough information has been presented to assume that there was a crime. There may have been, but items may have been returned and misplaced by the person at Lost and Found. One of the children may have taken it and left it somewhere. We just don't know unless and until the OP returns and posts what happened. I just pleased that the items were returned to the OP.

That is true. My niece's iPod went missing and she said her iPod was stolen at school. I think when she was middle school. Three years later her parents were moving her the dresser around in her room and the "stolen" iPod was on the floor behind her dresser.....

Correct, there are always two or more sides to every story. I say that as a retired Chief of Detectives who has seen many changes in the focus and direction of investigations.

Happy Ending...hope OP will come back to say what happened or what she was told happened...

glad to hear no matter what that Celeb stepped in to resolve the issue...and that Celeb Official took time to post....very good to know!

Also nice to know the support given from the Cruise Critic Community may have made a difference as well.

I think you guys found out that my son's DS was found before I did!!! :D

To Celebrity Cruises poster, thank you so much for contacting Summit on our behalf. My son was so happy to have his items returned, and even to be given a chocolate bar for his pain and suffering :)

The chief of security was waiting for us at the gangway in St Thomas and escorted us to the office of the head of guest relations where he handed my son his system and an envelope full of his games.

I can confirm it was most definitely a theft, and that it involved a guest. Beyond that, the security chief told us that the situation has been handled appropriately but it was beyond the scope for them to disclose to us. That is just fine by us- all we wanted was his stuff back and every one of the games was there too. I am a very happy mom today.

Thanks to the other posters and Orator especially for your advice. It helped me feel like at least I was doing everything I could. This community is awesome.

And thanks to those of you who know me well enough to be sure I didn't leave my seven year old unattended! He loved the kids club and his grandma was also sailing with us :) But this certainly made the end of our cruise about as happy as disembarking tomorrow can be!

I will write a full review when I get home. Thanks again! :)

Susie, thanks for gettting back here, and kudos to the Celebrity rep here for stepping up. A happy ending is always fun!

I agree that this can be a great community, & posters like Orator remind me that it still can be, despite the contrarians. There should be more like him.

Looking forward to your review.

That's great, Susie!

I think had you not posted on this board, you would probably be going home today without your son's games and a bitter taste in your mouth. ;)

Obviously, since a guest stole the games, Celebrity (and their crew) was not at fault for the theft, but they sure stepped up to end your cruise on a happy note. Just so sorry the theft soured your cruise.

A great lesson for all to keep a better eye on our valuables and to realize that sailing on a ship is no different than vacationing in a big city.

Couldn't agree more, been following this thread with mixed feelings but what a happy ending for the op and what a great testament to the power of social media and the value X places in it, please don't think I'm minimizing the security teams efforts, I do believe they would have assisted the op in the recovery of the stolen items but it's so reassuring and comforting to see it all in action here on social media....thank you op for being a part of CC and thanks for X for also being a part....glad for the happy ending

Here's a case where a passenger was prosecuted for stealing spa products and another passenger's sea pass card:

He got kicked off the ship as did another couple for stealing a Michael Kors bag on a Celebrity ship in New Zealand:

What an expensive and embarrassing way to ruin a vacation!
