  1. Thank you Lenda and Vanessa for mentioning my nephew. I got word tonight that he’s gone 20 miles inland. I am much relieved.

Terri, I’m sure glad you’re home!

Gerry, that story had an Amazingly good outcome!

Karen, you’re well ahead of me but tomorrow after we get my niece on her way I’ll be catching up on the packing.

Annie I’m happy to hear Chuck’s eye feels better even if sore.

Roy, good that the change in plans is moving along. I got replies tonight on the NCL board about not trying to get a taxi at the NY cruise terminal to get us to Grand Central… apparently it’s too short a trip for taxis to bother with, we should Uber instead. Who knew?  I hope you can arrange for a transfer to AmTrak from Bayonne, and I might need to learn how for future use as Bayonne will be a good option for us.

Will you be posting during your cruise?

Only sporadically from ports if at all. We won’t have the ship’s internet package but I might be able to use Wi-Fi in ports, or use cell connection on my carriers’ pay-as-you go plan. DH will have the Global Travel plan on his phone do he can connect to internet get his eye pressure readings but it won’t help on the ship, only in ports. The modern way of life is not straightforward.

Sending out comfort to you and your family. It’s a privilege to be with loved ones at the end of their lives but it’s exhausting.

Oh, and congratulations to Sandi and Dennis on 5Star! I’m sure we will be 4Star for eternity.

  3. Praying for Amazing for baby Murphy!  And for @Cruzin Terri appt at Mayo.

I’ve been in and out of San Pedro a few times, more often out than in. The pictures make it look nicer than I remember!  But I do remember it being an interest industrial port, lots happening.

@rafinmd Roy that change to Bayonne will likely affect how you return home, assuming by train. But you can get Amtrak in Newark. You might have to Uber up (north) to the train station (Newark Pennsylvania station). Or if there is reason to begin in Manhattan, the Newark Penn station has the PATH tubes under the Hudson, might not be easy with luggage although I know you pack light. This is all rather a nuisance, sorry for the complexity.  Drivers dislike going across the state line.  Maybe the ship will have a transfer bus into Manhattan but I’d think that’s unlikely, just to the airports usually, unless because of their change they are more accommodating.

My niece is on her way to us now from NC, staying the night here on her way to NY for a few days’ break, returning to us Saturday. Then we all leave Sunday. I’m at the YIKES stage- when time is feeling short, piles are growing but nothing is packed. It’ll all happen.

I was in a fog yesterday. I made a Key Lime Pie for tonight’s dinner with our guest but I totally forgot to separate the eggs (uses only the yolks) and then couldn’t understand why it took too long to set, and I may have overcooked it. I think I’ll make a proper one today. Put the other in the freezer, maybe bring it up to the grandkids, they can laugh about it with me!  We can enjoy it together for whatever it is.

I have a nephew in Crystal River FL in Idalia’s path. He has a trailer home in a wooded, wet area. He’s been removing trees, I hope enough! Had one fall and damage his mom’s mini-pickup a few years ago but he was able to fix it. Blessings to all in the storm’s reach, all those evacuating, all the decision makers and all the rescue workers who will get emergency calls from desperate people who didn’t plan ahead. 🤦🏼‍♀️ May they all be safe.

Blessings for all in need to healing, comfort or hope.

Cheers to all celebrating milestones and accomplishments, Life is Good!

Smooth travels to all away!  Especially our cruisers.
Wondering about our ship… NCL Joy cancelled her Bermuda port this week (along with RCL Vision, Carnival Magic and one other) due to Hurricane Franklin but I don’t know where she went instead. She’s due back to NY Monday for us to board. I’ll assume she’ll be there until I hear otherwise.

Thank you @JazzyV for capturing all our doings!  Everyone stay safe!  And thanks for being here.

  4. Sad to hear that baby Murphy is struggling. Love surround them all. Thanks Lorraine for updating us. Nice to hear you had a good trip!

@Cruzin Terri I’m sure you’ll make the right decision for you for the balance between your medical visit and the storm coming. Hoping the tests show whatever needs to be seen.

@kochleffel Paul, glad you weren’t seriously injured but a fall is upsetting. Be gentle to you.

I didn’t get Costco done today but that’s ok, we’ll have more than enough to get us through till late Sept. I felt very tired this morning, even fell asleep. Maybe it had something to do with yesterday’s flu shot?  But I did get some of Tuesday’s items in my list done. More to do tomorrow.

    Hope everybody has/had a good sleep!  m—

Yes, we order our omlettes..etc to our cabin that morning so we don't have to deal with the crowds..very relaxing.

Oh, interesting!  Thank you. We’ll inquire. Maybe even on turnaround day in Quebec.

  6. Breakfast in an MDR sounds perfect. The app sounds less than perfect. We’ll be on a B2B so that’s $40. Hmmm. Maybe back to leaving sticky notes on the mirror!
Carnival (2022) had been charging $5 per device. HAL had no fees in March. Neither app was perfect but both were useful for dining hours and menus plus keeping track of each other (both were family cruises) but with just the two of us I doubt it’ll be worth it. Thank you for enlightening us!  I feel like so much has changed!
    m—

  7. Thanks. I appreciate the heads-up.
We’ll try for a sit down breakfast and a late departure. If the room steward allows us to leave our last minute totes on the room, or we’ll take the to breakfast. Have to learn how it all works on NCL.  I’m sure it’ll all be fine. We won’t be in a hurry, taking a cab to Grand Central, train north to where we’re leaving our car at our grandkids house, staying the night in a hotel so no hurries, no worries!  Thanks for the info.

  8. Thank you Rich for your dedication to the Daily , and for your service.

I haven’t been to today’s port but, for Roy, I have been to Horta and we docked there- memorable because it took 4 tries to dock due to winds!

We got flu shots and groceries accomplished yesterday. Then I rested! Just haven’t got as much energy as I used to. I sorted some more for packing but not enough. Today is a rare Costco run to stock up, especially the always essential TP, plus salmon, turkey and chicken which are the mainstays of our suppers.  So far, thankfully no side effects from the flu shot. Hope I make it through the day ok. Tonight is book group, seems I only get there about half the time so I’m looking forward to seeing the ladies.

I’m watching the weather for our upcoming cruise ports. Portland is forecast to be 95 Wednesday next week!  We’d better have at least one summer shirt each!  The rest of the ports should be comfortable to cool.

Hurricane Franklin could impact our ship’s passage to or from Bermuda before it is to dock in NY on Monday for us to board so I’m watching for itinerary changes.

Hoping rain comes to the fire zones in the PNW. Prayers for protection for all the firefighters.

Blessings to Terri heading to Mayo today. And to all in need. Great checkin from Denise in Kaanapali!  Blessings to all in harm’s way of Hurricane Idalia. Time to prep!  The moon phase is already causing tidal flooding in the Florida Keys, storm winds will make it worse even from an offshore storm. I have family scattered all over FL from top to bottom, all very experienced at storms.

Cheers to all celebrating! @Mr. Boston soon you’ll be able to let go the fretting and enjoy that big AHhhh!

Smooth travels to all away. Everyone stay safe!

  9. Thanks for the ideas. We’re leaving on Joy in a week. Have been on NCL before but it’s been several years and a lot has changed since our cruise on Jade. Joy is newer and larger. I’m hoping the app will help us get oriented.

Footloose is scheduled for our cruise, we reserved it. And Elements.

We don’t have a package so we’ll sample the other dining venues, Manhattan, Savor and Taste. Maybe theirs a hamburger or pizza place?  Is room service fee a flat fee or per plate?  I’m glad to hear there is a breakfast restaurant option other than buffet!  I’m sure we’ll be too well fed!
I hope there’s entertainment other than the two shows but if not we’ll read. My needs are few. My experience has been good on NCL so not worried just curious. m—

  10. So many kind words shared here every day!  That’s something to celebrate. Thank you all. And thank you Graham for the link. Love the photos, always. I wish it was easier for me to get to older pix. The Pago Pago market is where I purchased at least one of my South Pacific pareas which get a lot of use as cover cloth’s especially traveling.

@rafinmd Roy, I’m so glad to hear MD Task Force 1 is returning. That is gruesome traumatic work and they need to be relieved by a new team. For families waiting for word of loved ones the work is too slow but it has to be.

I made some good progress yesterday. We got all the credit cards paid or scheduled (almost reset on all the auto-pays after our financial “not-quite-hacking” debacle of June!) and travel notifications in. Online donation to my church done. I now have each of our vitamins sorted into daily portions in snack bags. I have a flu shot appt for today at the grocery store pharmacy while I pick up produce fir the week. And a list of things to do and what day to do them! Made copies of the Mail Hold request so I have that ready to fill out. Got through the toiletries and medicines etc, lots of little things done, and decided on luggage arrangements, I’m feeling better, and slept 7 hours!  The printer is giving the “offline” error so it’s been rebooted with no change but sometimes that straightens out after a day. Neither computer or phone can communicate with it now but I’m hoping. Not going to get worked up over it, the universe will not end. We spoke with granddaughter and her hubby to make a plan or at least discuss the options for our visit next Sunday and leaving our car with them. They are through their bout of COVID that canceled our last visit with them 2weeks ago. They’ve been back to work all week and are tired but ok. And I found and listened to my 2CDs of quicky French lessons. Amazed I found them. It’s a good brush up on the rusty high school French but even my few words have helped us out at times, last time while in Zurich.

@Cruzin Terri your Rome visit sounds excellent!  Planning it is a great refocusing for you to enjoy living life. Holding a vision for you of an Amazing visit to Mayo and safe travels.

@marshhawk I’m so glad you spoke with a doctor about Chuck’s eye and didn’t wait till the followup. That’s gotta help bring the stress level down a notch. One day at a time is Everything!  Glad he got to his mom’s when he did.

@kazu Hoping the storm skirts by you. And same for Bruce, Sandi, Annie and all prepping for possible impacts.

Blessings to all in need, and congrats to all celebrating!  Smooth travels to all away.

  11. TP Day?  We all remember the run on TP at tge start of the pandemic!  It was universal. Friends and family around the globe all reported the same panic. It’s time to get another case from Costco soon!

The AC ran on and off through the night, maybe I just noticed it more because I wasn’t sleeping. It’s certainly still summer but not as intense as it was, and the showers late yesterday were good. But the condo building holds the heat, great in winter!

I went to bed reading my newly arrived Boston guide. I think we can use public transit to get up to the Freedom Trail from the cruise port, or a taxi/Uber, I doubt I can walk it there, just hoping I can walk at least part of it to enjoy it. I can’t get my head and body both focused in the packing direction yet but we have to be fully ready a week from today - my niece is coming that day and we’re all going to a dinner theater that night for my birthday, then all leaving the next morning. Maybe not the best plan but her visit was scheduled first, then the dinner theater, then the cruise!  Every day this week I’ll have to make progress. At least yesterday we got all our quarterly taxes paid online, that was an accomplishment. They’ll be due while we’re gone next month.

Will we manage to get flu shots this week?  Will we get to Costco? Have to work around DH’s eye followup, hoping maybe he can discontinue the twice-a-day eye drops. I have details to figure out. And book group Monday night to discuss a delightful book I found in the Rotterdam Library in March! Nice library. At least I got to the pool for hip exercises yesterday, maybe that contributed to not being able to get comfortable last night. Niece is stopping in Tuesday night on her way north, then again Saturday on her way back south so I’ll be doing some guest room prep work for her but very glad to!  Except that’s where I’d be laying out packing, so I’ll have to set up a couple of folding chairs for that.

Blessings to all in need of healing, comfort or hope, and protection for all in harm’s way from storms, fires, floods, sinkholes, oh my!
@Cruzin Terri you have a lot on your plate but still extend your heart to so many! Hoping you are taking care of yourself too. Extra blessings for your trip to Mayo! Even if I’m not posting I’ll still be thinking of you.

@luvteaching you sure are keeping busy, you’ll get a chance to slow down and breathe on Westerdam soon, be pampered and surrounded by beauty!  I just picture it all hugging you!

Cheers to all celebrating!  Happy for @mamaofamiCarol and Sam!
Annie, @marshhawk hoping Chuck is feeling better, you too, and you can have a little down- time with F1 this weekend. Enjoy.

Smooth travels for those away. Good packing for those in the prepping stage, including me!
Thanks for the photos of Copenhagen, my only “visit” there was to change planes!  But I do remember the chocolate was excellent! Maybe it was your company’s Graham 😉.

And thank you to Bruce and Ray and others not noted for your service!

  12. I had the joy of visiting the Galileo museum in Florence Italy. There were exhibits outside, particularly sundials. But inside were his portable sundials!  I was fascinated. They were small, like a pocket watch, with a folding staff to make the shadow, and had a built-in compass!  I got scolded for trying to take a picture, no photos allowed!  But when I just tried searching online for these for a photo to post, I found that Amazon has a bunch of them for sale! Well not Galileo’s but interesting!  I guess what goes around comes around….  m—

  13. Happy Friday!  It’s a rainy day here in Maryland, and warm too. I’m looking forward to cooler days traveling north soon.

@0106 Tina, I’ve enjoyed your slant on the recipes. Many thanks for stepping in!  I’ll pass on the roll ups, I find pan lasagna easier and less messy.

@cruzn single Mary Kay, glad to hear from you and that your adjustment is going well. I am having a broad spectrum of emotions about our decision but mostly good. It’s exciting, a relief, I’m grateful, but also nervous. The big hurdle was moving out of the mountain home we built in NM, and the deep community ties. But when I was grieving about severing from our history, DH said, We’ll make new history! And so we have, and will again. The timing is out of our control this time, it’s whenever they have a unit open up that we’ll like, one with a view!  Happy for you to have a cruise coming up that you’ll share with cruise buddies!  You give me hope!

@StLouisCruisers Sandi, that photo of tge Golden Waterfalls is stunning!  Not likely I’ll get to see it, thank you for sharing this and all your adventures.

@kochleffelPaul, I loved Oostersam. It’s been a long time but I thought she was quite elegant.

@kazu Jacqui, you’ve done an amazing job with Ivan, and he’s obviously happy to be with you.

@marshhawk Annie, good luck with your appointment today. And we too wear masks everywhere. Hoping we don’t catch this new strain on our Sept cruise!  But living life is essential. Hoping Chuck feels better soon.

@Sharon in AZ, it’s a privilege to support loved ones through their end of life. Great that your aunt had such a warm reaction to your mom’s presence. Heartwarming.

@Cruzin Terri, finally a date for the floors!  I think of the danger of warped floors and hope you don’t trip.

@smitty34877 Terry, we’re all hoping Lou can be more comfortable. All through our lives we have to make decisions on what’s best for us. He’ll have his positive benefits to steer towards and hopefully with one path out of the way, there’ll be room for new options will present themselves.

Today is pool exercises for hips. I really need it!  And yesterday I made inquires for kayaking in Saguenay, maybe I’ll hear more today, it sounded hopeful. Tried kayaking here last weekend but was so disappointed that the lake  is having an algae bloom so no water contact!  Well we can’t get in or out of a kayak with getting wet. So that was a bust.

Blessings to all the Care List, and all the Dailyites, and all in need of healing, comfort or hope near and far. And @Haljo1935!

Cheers for all the celebrations that remind us that Life is Good!

Smooth travels for all away especially our cruising friends.

Thank you all for being here. Maureen

Adding:  Yay for National Parks!  We’ve enjoyed so very many in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Found it so strange and sad that England doesn’t really have National Parks like we know them, but we enjoyed the Crown Lands set aside. And maybe Graham can enlighten me on that (between such luscious meals, oh my, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding!). m—

  14. Thanks for the Fleet Report and special days. Tostadas are so versatile they can be celebrated often. I cannot celebrate government imposition of religion. We were in Salvadore Brazil in 2013 on our round the Horn adventure on Carnival Splendor’s repositioning. Thanks for the pictures Sandi. I remember the elevator to get from the port level up the bluff to the old town. Beautiful buildings, but oh so hot. I have a lovely “lace” tablecloth from there made out of coconut fiber.

I’m slow getting organized for our cruise. We’re realizing that we’ll have to do some things differently for NCL than HAL particularly because the rooms won’t be ready early so we won’t be walking on with our roller bags. We don’t want to have to deal with them for the first few hours when it’s chaos and crowded. So porters it will be. Also, with taking the train to Manhattan, we’ll have to be sure to be a little more compact than when driving and having the grandkids ready to help!  And I think I will take my small 3-legged folding camp stool to have a seat in the expected long lines. It has a shoulder strap but I think I’ll just have it folded vertically and let it stick out of my shoulder tote. Somehow packing is always evolving so it never really gets easy. And I’ve realized clothing will have to be in light layers. Yesterday I sorted through stuffable rain jackets and found, not surprisingly, some don’t fit as well as they used to!  Haven’t taken a rain jacket on a cruise in almost 10 years - recent cruises have been warm climates so just a folding umbrella was needed. Today I’ll reserve the special shows for the second leg of the B2B.

Hoping we hear good news on @catmando soon. Blessings going out to all in need of healing, comfort or hope, all our Daily family and our Cares list.

Happy to toast those celebrating! Life is Good!  🌈

Smooth travels to all away, peaceful return to @dfish, Sue, @StLouisCruisers .  Everyone stay safe!

  15. @marshhawk hoping Chuck come through this procedure Amazing!

@smitty34877 little by little. Nice to hear Lou is a little better today.

Lenda and Vanessa, you are both quite amazing how with all that’s going on in your lives and neighborhoods you manage to us us each in your hearts!  Thank you.

@Cruising-along your DBIL’s diagnosis is too common. We went through that in 2019 with DH. Our path took us to MCAnderson in Houston. We had an Albuquerque urologist who wanted to do surgery, said he’d done over a 100. We wanted to look at our options, get a second opinion. MDAnderson set up a team appointment, arranged to have their team evaluate DH’s biopsy samples, did their own scans. The head surgeon for this procedure told us he’d done over 3000 of this type of surgery, then gave us his reasons to recommend radiation instead. The radiation oncologists were there too and explained all of that to us. They began with a hormone block injection and we went home for 3 months for blood work numbers to come down.  We went back for the radiation treatments which took us into the start of Covid but they didn’t miss any treatments, even for those who got COVID, they had a special room, equipment and extra PPE for their staff.  They were amazing and I can’t say enough good about our experience there.  There’s a lot to consider. I’m sure there’s a path forward for your DBIL.

@ottahand7 Log cabin life can include all kinds of critters events, ours did, and I’m sure this is just another good story in the making for you. Guessing the bat isn’t too happy either. Good luck!

  16. Really appreciate your review. We’ll be on Joy in less than 2 weeks, first time on Joy and not a lot of cruises in NCL, almost 10 years ago and a lot has changed, like making reservations for entertainment. I reserved Footloose and Elements but I didn’t know we have to reserve comedy shows too. Thanks for the tip.

What time were your rooms ready when boarding?  Are they all opened at once or deck by deck?  Our arrival time is 11:00, I’m hoping we’re not standing in line in the terminal for hours.

Are there multiple outlets for charging phones/computer in the room?  Did you need an extension cord?

    Many thanks! m—

  17. Thanks for the Fleet report Rich.
Popping in early to say that I got word a couple of hours ago that the NM team returned safely from their mission to get a dying neighbor to CA to her brother’s care. Thank you all for your caring support.

Yesterday we made a lot of progress each: DH wrote up new guidance for the trust attorney, took most of the day to get it all organized, discussed, reviewed together and ready. During this year DH and I have researched our options for our future as well as reorganized and simplified our financial structure, and that all needs to be addressed in the new trust. So it seems it’s all working out.

And I made progress to working on our cruise trip coming up. We have reservations pre- and post- cruise; learned about the train schedules and how to buy tickets getting from Poughkeepsie where we’ll leave our car to Manhattan and back. And dug out all our maps and travel books for tge ports we’ll visit. Now that they’re out I can figure out what we’ll take. I also sent my niece screenshots of map portions and directions  to help get her here next week on her way from NC up to upstate NY. Making progress.

    Blessings to all in need!
Cheers to those celebrating! Happy Birthday @Vict0riann

Bon Voyage to @HAL4NOW and safe travels Debbie, Sue and Sandi and DH - have greatly enjoyed your travels with you. Thank you so much for your efforts. Hope you are all well enough to have a good day heading home.

Now for maybe a wee more sleep.  Later, m—

  18. A very Happy Anniversary to Pauline and Graham @grapau27 what a great day for you to remember and look ahead. There are never enough anniversaries!  🍾 Lovely photo of the happy bride and groom!

Happy Hoodie Hoo Day when the sun comes up for our friends in the South. Tell us more….

Tina, I love shrimp and all those Mexican flavors and textures!  Those dishes look perfect for a summer supper. Or anytime for me.  Thank you!

Nancy @ottahand7 I’m so sorry for your loss of Frank and the community’s loss. How is Frank’s wife?  It must be overwhelmingly hard.

Terry (no blue bubble😕) hoping the nurses have some suggestions on nutrition for Lou. That would help you both!

I’ve been sending weather maps and routing updates to the team taking Susan to CA but haven’t heard of an arrival yet, hopefully later this morning. The picture they sent of her nestled in the RV bed showed some “medical items” that indicate some of why she couldn’t fly at this point plus just too weak.  She is a retired OR nurse of many decades and has been a warrior through all her illness difficulties. I’m so glad my friends are caring for her through this special journey to get her to her brothers house. It’s such a privilege to help someone at the end of their life. Thank you all for your support. I think that makes all of you angels too!

Well we finally got our trust lawyer to commit to a draft of our trust restatement by end of September. I’m not convinced but we’ll stay on the path a little longer. sigh.

We made progress yesterday getting some things figured out for our upcoming cruise including how DH will use the tonometer to monitor eye pressures, which needs software from the cloud. We’ll use cellular data connection and hope that works ok. I’m too not concerned about spikes while he’s on this second eye drop med which is a double med, but that med is preservative-free and requires refrigeration so packing is a bit of a nuisance. The device in its carrying case fits in a shoulder bag, and the meds are individual ampules grouped in light-blocking pouches, so not too difficult. This is our first cruise since we got the tonometer, good that we’re trainable!

Blessings to all in need of healing, comfort or hope.
🍻 Cheers to all celebrating milestones of Living Life!  You remind us that Life is Good! 🌈

Smooth travels to all away especially our cruising friends. And the team with Susan!

May we all have a safe day!

  19. @Denise T Excellent!

@aliaschief Take care, you and yours, as you process this loss.

Update on my friends and their mission: they’re finally on the road, late departure but maybe that’ll help some of the road disruptions settle down. They sent a photo of Susan (which I won’t post for privacy), they’ve made her comfy as possible in the RV bed, EMTs with her round the clock! All three with her on this journey are licensed EMTs. Pretty amazing service!   Google says about 13 driving hrs. It’ll be morning before they get there🤞. I told them that many blessings go with them, more than they realize!  Thank you all.

It was very hard for me to move from such a supportive community, but I’m right where I belong, and excited to look ahead at our next chapter!  Life is Good🌈.
