Diamond free drink tips

Recommended Posts

For those of us that each get 3 free drinks every day outside of the diamond lounge. Do the bar tenders get tips on those? I've heard both yes and no.

The bartenders only get tips on those drinks if you give them.

As above. They only get tips if you tip. I only found out about this on my second cruise with the new system.

If you think about it, it is easy to understand. The drinks are complimentary (free) from the company so there would be no tips included for the staff who serve you.

The company is trying to keep you happy so they don't mention that tips are not included after all it is free. If they ask you to tip then it is no longer free.

My cruise in August I had to sign for every free drink outside the DL/CL. so you can either write a tip in or give them cash. I give cash for each drink in the evening outside the lounge and then usually tip once at the end in the lounge I use for the week.

As other have stated - No.

The bar folks in the CL and DL like those that work the bars etc., share the 18% gratuities collected for a particular cruise. I usually give $1 a drink to those working the CL, DL or when redeeming our free drinks loaded on our Sea Pass cards. I always carry single dollars to accommodate this.

We don't buy drinks at the outlandish prices they charge, but we do believe in tipping for great service which is what we get everytime we go for the free drinks. Don't take this as an opening to start a big debate over pricing, as this is just our feelings, we are not trying to speak for anybody else.

We too will tip $1-$2 per drink wherever we get them. Has anyone every run out of singles for a cruise and if so, how have you replenished these? The reason I ask is that it happened once and when I went to guest services on the Serenade it was as if I was asking for a free cruise or something. I think she gave me $20 bills and of course that doesn't last long so we were back again a couple days later for more and with a different person got a similar reaction of not wanting to give me change for my bigger bills.

thanks CC friends for all the advice!

For voucher drinks, you need to sign a receipt anyway, so I just add the tip.

For lounge drinks I like to tip cash when served. I used to wait until the last night, but it always seemed as though the servers that had been so helpful all cruise were hard to find. I know its said that the tips are pooled, but I always feel better getting it in the hands of the servers that were most helpful.

Casino. Never any problem getting 10 or 20 ones.

We always break our big bills at the casino. Never a long line and they do it with a smile.

On our cruise last month on the Liberty, we tipped the 3 diamond servers $100 each at the end of our 9 night cruise. This was for our family of six.

They were all excellent and work very hard each and every day. Pay it forward!

only if you give them one. since there is no charge for the drink there is no gratuity added.

just like the servers inside the Lounge get nothing unless you give them something. we tend to give a flat rate at the end of the week bur many choose to pay as you go a dollar a drink

Question from 1st time Royal Caribbean cruiser but Diamond member (courtesy Celebrity).

Cruising on Legend in October and know there is a Diamond Lounge. I am travelling with another lady who is not yet Diamond so doubt I will make use of the lounge.

I see mention of 3 free drinks/drink vouchers for use outside the lounge. Is this on every cruise or just if there is no Diamond lounge. Struggling with weather to buy a drink package or not. If I am entitled to 3 complimentary drinks each day I may be wasting my money on a package.

Would appreciate some help with how the this works.

You will receive three coupons (loaded on the sea pass )to be used each evening during the same hours that diamond lounge is serving cocktails. Generally from about 5pm till 8:30.

It for basic cocktails, not exotic, frozen drinks or premium alcohol. The lounge and bar tenders have a list of what is available.

Unused coupons expire each evening.

Enjoy

All Diamond and above cruisers receive 3 drink vouchers daily on their seapass card. They can be used at any bar during diamond lounge cocktail hours........usually 5 pm - 8:30 pm. They cannot be used in the restaurants, dinning room or theater. They do not carry over from day to day.
