Let me understand this, dodgestang.  The Suite concierge on the Grandeur--Francis Calimag--called you personally en route, met your car at the port, walked you to the terminal, then handled the paperwork and accompanied you onto the ship.

We have sailed Royal many times (and the Grandeur several times), always in a Grand Suite and have NEVER had that level of personal service.  I would expect that on a Quantum or Oasis Class ship when sailing in a loft suite that comes with a Genie, but on the Grandeur?  How did you rate such extraordinary personal service?

Yes.  This is how Francis treated us on Grandeur when we sailed in the Royal Suite, I 'assumed' it was how RS is treated.  It was very reminiscent of the Genie service we get on Anthem.  Maybe it's because we sailed in the RS twice in 4 months?  Maybe the ship wasn't full, who knows.

Were there other perks? Years ago when we were on the Royal Suite on a small ship for our wedding they did also sorts of little things, like a mimosa brunch in the room for free from all the Champagne we had been given as perks for the sailing. I assume this was just for the Royal Suite. We are in the 2 bedroom Grand Suite on the Rhapsody next year and doubt we will get this level. 🙂

Over the course of the 9 days we had 2 bottles of champagne, a couple plates of strawberries, cookies everyday all arrive at the room....some were from the Casino, some I don't know where/why...but we drank/ate ;).

Good to know, dodgestang!  I have never chatted with a Royal Suite passenger, so I do not know whether this is standard practice for that top-level suite.  I have, however, sailed with Francis a few times; he is an exceptional concierge and has taken very good care of us.

Thank you for your prompt reply..

THanks. I can never tell what is Diamond + and what is suite and what is just a courtesy from the Concierge. Our experiences have always been great with RCCL. We did decide to try the key this next cruise on ovation as we weren't sure what was covered by suites and by diamond + in the case of access to activities. I'm going to talk to the concierge about it this sailing. It's just all so new.

We were platinum on this cruise.

We reach Diamond (not +) April 2020 unless I opt to add another cruise over Christmas this year.

So anything we got was just Casino or Room/Concierge thing

I find the royal suite service a step far too far, a bit too much.  But we does love the suites. But from your story I can definitely see how you would favor Francis!  But to be honest we were lucky that we got the Bungalow that we reserved (we prefer those partly due to the privacy) because the day that we were a cococay a couple of weeks ago someone at corporate RCCL made a *huge* mistake - the Adventure and the Grandeur were scheduled in port together but EACH had been informed they were the only ship in port and so the entire island was booked at 200% 🙄  Apparently half the cruisers with the reservations have been canceled a day or two before we sailed 🤦🏼‍♀️

We will definitely look forward to meeting Francis now!

Francis is exceptional as a Concierge unfortunately he now is on the Radiance of the Seas and no longer on the Grandeur.

See you and Rick in Jan on serenade.  I want to thank him for his suggestions on the V2V.  Wife decided that was better and I dont have to drive so win for me.  Although i told her that the bus shuttle service that uses the BC ferries was less than half price and we get to see the same ocean and islands.  Plus we would be getting into Vancouver at 3pm so we could go to the suspension bridge. Son told me he would forgo the suspension bridge in favor of the better seating on V2V.

Rick says any time and wants to know what day do you arrive here in Vancouver.  We know that Radiance leaves on Friday, will you be coming in the day before.

Yes, we are scheduled to arrive at 8pm on July 11 at canada place.  I take it that at 8pm the sun will be out and about?  Will probably have dinner somewhere and walk around.  Will you and Rick want to join us for dinner?  We wont have a vehicle obviously so would be somewhere walkable near Canada Place.  Is Uber easy to get in Vancouver?

Hi Frank - there is no Uber or Lyft in Vancouver.  Government wont allow it, but it is an ongoing “discussion” and has been for years.  Politics on how it will affect the taxi industry. You can walk to Pan Pacific from V2V.  There are great restaurants in and around Canada Place.  Rick and I would love to join you all.  We can either meet you at V2V and walk you to Pan Pacific or meet once you check in, etc. I think Rick has your email address.  We will email you to firm up plans.

Looking forward to meeting you.

We have been on Grandeur many times and have known Francis for years - the one time we were in the Royal Suite, we got the extra special treatment that you describe - he gave us his personal cell to communicate with him pre-boarding, walked us through security/checkin, and treated us great all cruise.  Evangeline (I think that is her name) was the room steward for that side of Deck 8 forward and she was great as well.  The combination of Francis and Evangeline on Grandeur when they both were there was unbeatable.

Were you in a Royal Suite as well?

Ah well! Maybe we will make it around to all of them before it’s over. Sounds like a good goal to me 🙂

We have always enjoyed Francis. It's a good reason for us to try to catch Radiance again!

We will miss Francis on the Grandeur.  He was most professional and very helpful.

Oasis Questions--

  • Beatrice Chirmus, who covers DL, went on vacation 5-26-2019.  Does anyone know when she will be back and who is covering the DL in her absence.
  • Claudine Benjamin moved to Allure to be with her husband.  Does anyone know who will be her replacement on Oasis's team?
