Cruising-along Posted August 19, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 19, 2016 Carol I want to add my appreciation for all you do. I see that there will be a "Wellness" group on the first half of my Koningsdam cruise and "Inspirations" group on the second half. I already know that group is huge. :( Any idea how large the "Wellness" groups are?

Do you have any idea how many people the "knitting group" might be since I see they are now on our October Veendam cruise? Leon If the knitting group is similar to a quilting group, it should be no more than 50 - 60 people, probably less. I'd be surprised if you knew they were there. Do you have any idea how many people the "knitting group" might be since I see they are now on our October Veendam cruise? Leon Alberta Quilter has already answered your post, however, from past experience on sailings, this group has not been large. They do NOT take over public venues and have scheduled "do's" in public places which interefere with daily ship activity, If they have a seminar/talk/knitting bee - it is usually in one of the conference rooms, which they specifically book out with HAL . You might see clusters of them up by the Lido/pool area or similar seating areas, but they usually splinter off to be with acquaintances, etc. Nice group of people, socializing and keeping their hands busy! I always like to look at what they are working on, as I used to be an avid knitter. If I still was, some of the yarn shops on these cruises would be amazing to visit. I went to the website, and emailed the contact... Response: The theater has a maximum limit of about 875. That would be the max for the group, however we expect slightly less. TAD2005 Posted September 4, 2016 #23 Share Posted September 4, 2016 We are on the Nieuw Amsterdam from Sept 30, 2017 through Oct 21 for a reposition/Panama Canal cruise, starting in Vancouver and ending in FLL on Oct 21. There is a 7 day cruise scheduled from Oct 28 to Nov 4, and then the NA goes into drydock in Nassau from Nov 5 through Nov 18. But I don't see a cruise scheduled from Oct 21 to Oct 28. Our concern is what's happening in that week from Oct 21 to 28, 2017. The last thing we want is to be on a ship that is preparing for a 2 week drydock refurb. Usually HAL boards prep crews that start ripping the ship apart during the prior weeks. Does anyone know what the NA is doing from Oct 21 to 28, 2017, nothing is on HAL's schedule, and nothing like a charter is shown on CC ?
RuthC Posted September 4, 2016 #24 Share Posted September 4, 2016 Usually HAL boards prep crews that start ripping the ship apart during the prior weeks. I've been on two final cruises before drydocks with major renovations to the ships. Those included ripping out the aft pool area, removing interior walls in public rooms to open up the areas, and converting outside cabins to lanais. Yes, workers were brought aboard to start preliminary work, but they were unseen in the public areas (unless you spotted their steel-toed boots at lunch), and only worked behind the scenes. There was not one thing done to the passenger area of the ship until that last late afternoon/evening when the shops packed up all their good, the elevators were padded for protection, and a few signs started coming down off the walls. If you do end up on a final cruise before the start of a drydock, there's nothing to worry about in advance, if my history is a predictor.
