Sharing drinks packages

Recommended Posts

You can dispute a charge, but if you are charged for theft of an item, you won't win. Your previous post indicated that you are not sure what the definition of theft is. If you buy an ice cream cone and share it, it is "sharing" because you bought one cone. The contract for the drink package is that only the person that purchases it can use it. So it is not "sharing" but now is theft of product. Once it reaches $300, it becomes a felony. So, to dispute the charge card, and you would win, than you can have a felony theft charge against you.

So when you dispute the charge, what do you say? I was caught stealing, and they charged the theft charges to my card? So unfair!

I stand by my comments. We can go back & forth on this and talk past one another. Besides, what I offer and who I order it for is between myself and my bartender. If you don't think a bartender will not serve you two drinks on one sea pass bev pkg, you would be wrong... period. It's been done on every cruise I've been on. It all depends on how you handle yourself.

how exactly is it cheating? If royal loads their sea pass card with 3 free drinks a day, why does it matter who drinks the drink? It is not the same as someone buying a drink package and then getting drink for multiple people. This person earned those 3 FREE drinks a day. Its the same as that person buying her mom a drink and paying for it, except royal has already given her a credit for it 3 times a day.

If you read the comments regarding this situation you will see that she was saying

She and her mom get their 3 diamond drinks during cocktail hour. She said that since they did not use all three cocktails during the designated cocktail hour she felt it was a non issue for her to get her mom a drink or two on her card at the pool since her mom did not have a drinks package.

It's still cheating/stealing in my book. I stand by my post. (Flame Away)

WOW - 'drink police' all coming out at once!

Simply, don't cheat as sharing a package IT IS stealing.

Once again, I always suspect that some of these answers are given by what seems to be 'paid forum posting' members, so perfectly scripted... democratic underground at is best to promote and manipulate topics.

I have given a few drinks to my wife before and have zero quams.

But since I didn't bring a case of water or soda and I boarded at the designated time, It is OK.

Here on Cruise critics you get to pick and choose the rules you want to follow.

And then try to shun everyone else...

This is not personal but I always laugh when the "drink police" come into these threads and keep harping the same old story. I laugh because the majority of cruisers bring on their own water, soda or whatever -including said police.

Both are against the rules and yet I never see the "non-alcoholic drink police" around. It still takes money away form RC.

Both of these rules will continue to be broken until changes are made or are better enforced but that's on royal not us and, in until that time, people will do what they will do.

Do I care if someone shares a package, not one bit. Just like I don't care if someone brings 2 cases of bottled water on board. Either way, there is consequences if RC starts enforcing, as long as those people realize what those consequences are then that's all that matters.

Cheers.

Then we can thank you when they change the rules that everyone in the cabin must buy the package. Won't bother me as we always each order one - I am not cheap and ask my husband to get me drinks on his. I am glad I didn't marry cheap.

As far as water.... It's between $1 and $2 for a standard bottle of water if memory serves me correctly. It's included in the package but sometimes I want more than one at a time,so I just pay the difference. Definitely not $5 a bottle haha.

The water they have for sale is the Evian. Water in the packages is the Poland Springs type of water, and as far as I know you can't buy it.

If you have a package and you want two bottles of water, just ask! They have ALWAYS given DH (and me when I had Replenish) two bottles at a time with his Replenish.

If only!

I don't want people cheating because I don't want Royal to go back to the way it was, where people had to get the same drinks packages. So please don't cheat.

Also, hook me up with being paid to say that. I'm doing it for free right now, but I'd totally take money for it.

I always share mine with my gf. She's a light drinker but likes some non alcoholic drinks during the day. I like the drink package because I can try all the drinks that I want. If I don't like a drink, in the trash it goes and the bartenders don't care.

Actually, IMO, the prices have dropped in the lasy 18 mos. Not gone up. Liberty offers $10 drinks of all kind. Plus, the drink pkgs are being discounted, in addition, they're also offering drink cards at reduced prices.

I don't think prices have gone down.

They SAY the packages are discounted, but because there's no one price being given for the packages, you can't really compare the prices.

As for the drink cards, they aren't on every sailing. I saw nothing of the sort on our last cruise on Freedom, and I was looking for it.

It is stories like this that cause me to discount most cocktail lounge talk. Both occupants of a stateroom must have drink packages or no drink package for either. It's OK for only one to upgrade though.

Not on Royal, not since late 2013. Each person in a room can have their own drinks package or none at all.

Sorry for taking this thread OT but is it allowed to order a drink for my wife if we both have the drink package?

Even if I don't want anything to drink but my wife asks me to go get her a drink?

Take HER card and get her her drink. If you're both getting drinks, take both cards.

When DH and I both had Replenish he would get our lattes in the morning and would take both cards and come back with his mocha, my latte, and 2 bottles of water for each of us.

When only he has Replenish he took both of our cards, had his mocha charged to his replenish package, had my latte actually charged to our room, and would come back with those and his two bottles of water. (I get the water package so I wasn't taking his water)

If some day neither of us has a drinks package he'll just charge both espresso drinks to the room with one card, because that will make sense then.

Man this is so spot on! Agree with everything you said. RCL knows this is going on so its on them to do something about it (if they even want to). If they do they will either crack down harder on it or they will switch to everyone in the room needing it.

But that is EXACTLY why people are passionate about it! We do not want Royal to do that. We WANT Royal to let us have our own packages and not have to match each other. We want what Royal is doing now to continue. So we tell people "nope, that's sharing, please don't share".

Though I agree about the stealing, I don't agree with your predicted consequences. The 3 free drink vouchers have nothing to do with drink packages or people sharing them. As for the need for everyone in a cabin to have a package, I doubt it. Remember they tried that initially. The drink packages exist to generate revenue and any change that decreases revenue is unlikely to happen.

How could they charge everyone for a drinks package, what if they are non alcohol drinkers?

This is not walking up to someone that you don't know out of the blue and criticizing them.

This is a message board. Someone asks a question or gives an opinion. That person has REQUESTED feedback.

Giving that feedback is not "bashing" or "judgy".

If you don't want it, don't post.

Have your read any of the responses? If you can't find anything bashing or judgy then I want to live in your world.....or maybe I don't.

Its one thing to give feedback, its another to be mean about it. I'm reading an awful lot of mean when it could be a quick 'no, don't do it'. Feedback can be positive without being negative. Its the more flies with honey theory.

Sooooo,

Those of you screaming for Royal to enforce the drink package rules, do you also want them to enforce the MDR dress code to the letter? You don't have a collared shirt, you don't eat. You have a ball cap, you don't eat. You are wearing shorts, you don't eat. You are wearing sandals, you don't eat.

How about the abandoned deck chair rule? Even if you're just going to the buffet for something to eat, if you're gone one minute longer than the allowed time limit, you lose the chair. Even if you're huny is parked in the chair right next to it.

How about reservations at specialty restaurants? You don't show up until 6:05 for your 6:00 reservation? Sorry pal, you have to go the Windjammer or the MDR now.

Holding seats for someone in the theater? You get escorted out of the show because the rules say holding seats is not allowed.

So how far do you want Royal to go?

Almost every single one of those is a non sequitur.

There is no rule about collared shirts.

Yes, I do want people to be told to remove ball caps.

Yes, I want people to be told not to wear shorts in the MDR at dinner.

There is no rule about sandals.

Yes, I want them to enforce the rule about the use of lounge chairs.

What's a huny?

There is no rule about the timing of specialty restaurant reservations.

Yes, I want the rule about no saving of seats in the theater enforced.

Do you have any more?

I knew one couple whom shared drinks, but whether it could be call theft is open for debate.

He had an alcohol package, she had a soft drinks package.

He got a beer, she got a lemonade/soda.

Using a spare pint pot, they ended up sharing 2 shandy's.

OK to do? Seems fairly harmless to me, given they both had packages and both drinks were "paid" for.

But she was getting something she hadn't paid for... Alcohol.
