Mediterranean honeymooner Posted June 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2017 So I am a cruise newbie, my fiance and I are going to sail on our first cruise for our honeymoon in late July. My only expectations are to make it the best holiday ever and just enjoy all aspects of cruising. Since joining this site all the warm and wonderful advice has whetted our appetite for the trip. The things that I am most looking forward to are: 1.Sailaway just the idea of standing on deck with a glass of wine and watching the port drift behind us and sharing it with everyone. 2. Our first night in our cabin, sitting on the balcony watching the sunset. 3. Meeting interesting people from all walks of life, all ages, nationalities and experiences. 4. Down time on sea days, organising a wedding has not been without stress so really looking forward to rest! 5. We are really looking forward to the ultimate balcony meal, a romantic meal on our own balcony. 6. A night at the casino, I have never been to one so looking forward to experiencing all those movie references like James Bond. 7. The food, it all looks yummy and best of all I haven't had to prepare, cook and clean up afterwards! 8. Formal nights ....who doesn't like dressing up? 9. Waking up somewhere new every morning but unpacking once. 10. Entertainment, we love live music, magic shows and comedians but don't get the opportunity at home. What is everyone else looking forward to?

The things that I am most looking forward to are: 1.Sailaway just the idea of standing on deck with a glass of wine and watching the port drift behind us and sharing it with everyone. (Sail-aways are always a big thrill no matter how many cruises you have taken.) 2. Our first night in our cabin, sitting on the balcony watching the sunset. (Keep this in mind when selecting on which side of the ship you want your cabin) 3. Meeting interesting people from all walks of life, all ages, nationalities and experiences. (It is a small and interesting world on a cruise ship for certain.) 4. Down time on sea days, organising a wedding has not been without stress so really looking forward to rest! (Sea days can be great) 5. We are really looking forward to the ultimate balcony meal, a romantic meal on our own balcony. (Can be very romantic if balcony is big enough and the weather is good) 6. A night at the casino, I have never been to one so looking forward to experiencing all those movie references like James Bond. (Did the Bond movie casino scenes show lots of female senior citizens feeding slot machines? LOL) 7. The food, it all looks yummy and best of all I haven't had to prepare, cook and clean up afterwards! (Don't forget not having to make your bed or clean your bathroom) 8. Formal nights ....who doesn't like dressing up? (You will be very surprised at how many people don't think dressing up is worth packing formal wear) 9. Waking up somewhere new every morning but unpacking once. (This is very cool-------sure beats driving) 10. Entertainment, we love live music, magic shows and comedians but don't get the opportunity at home. (Get to the entertainment venue early. Good seats go quickly) What is everyone else looking forward to? Enjoy your cruise but know that cruising is addictive.
skynight Posted June 10, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 10, 2017 Seems like you have it all planned out. Watch out in the casino, your money can go fast, real fast. If you happen to get ahead, quit, cash in and don't go back.

beckntom Posted June 10, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 10, 2017 Enjoy your cruise but know that cruising is addictive. I loved your response to #6 (the casino). Too true! To Mediterranean Honeymooner, you listed many of the things we love about cruising, too. Sounds like your expectations are just where they need to be! Enjoy! What is everyone else looking forward to? That is the perfect outlook, and the one that my husband and I have....every single cruise!!! We have had a few curveballs thrown when we were on cruises, from a hurricane which changed itinerary slightly, to a volcano which completely altered plans. It could have ruined things, but we just rolled with it, "cheersed", and still enjoyed an amazing cruise (while experiencing some fellow passengers going completely sideways). vet6691 Posted June 10, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 10, 2017 Late July in the Med should be beautifully warm. The late showing of movies under the stars will be fab too. You can get snuggled up with a blanket on a sun-bed to watch the film. Another nice thing to do is get some goodies from the International cafe and take them back to your cabin for a little 'picnic'. If you have a bottle of wine, even better. We have done that before and the girl who served us was so excited, she made plates of cheese, crackers and deserts for us to take away. If you like champagne or Prosecco, don't forget to take a couple of bottles with you. Your steward will bring you champagne glasses and an ice bucket if you ask. It's really lovely sitting out on you balcony with a drop of fizz when the weather is nice. The aft pool area is a really nice place to relax too. If you go up the steps from there you will find some comfy seats and it's so nice looking down at the little pool. There is a smoking area there to but when we were on the Crown in May, not many people used it and it didn't smell of cigarettes if you sat on the opposite side. I'm really sensitive to cigarette smoke too. You will have a great time. xxx
Tatka Posted June 10, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 10, 2017 I got my husband addicted to cruising on Med cruise. It was his very first cruise ( I got addicted one cruise before). We were in our early 30ies. I picked Med cruise on purpose, in case he wouldn't like cruising, he at least would enjoy ports.... He loved ports, but even more he loved cruise itself. One thing he ( and I) loved aside from your list was swimming in pools very late when crowds were gone. It wasn't on Princess ship, but with Princess try to watch Movie Under The Stars at least one night. It is very nice and cozy. Also during evenings live music and dancing on Piazza are great. Enjoy! We had only 1.5 land based vacations since we started cruising in 2003. :)

Rare Cruise Raider Posted June 10, 2017 #15 Share Posted June 10, 2017 Have an awesome trip!!! We also went on a cruise for our honeymoon and got bitten by the cruise bug then. I hadn't learned about this site until we were well underway in love of cruising. My only advice is to keep the same positive attitude that you display and don't hesitate to ask a lot of questions here ... the advice has been invaluable for us. It has not only helped us save money, but to pick out the right cabin, take the best excursions and just make the best of our time while onboard. In addition to those things you've mentioned, I love to watch movies and also love to eat outside. I can watch a movie and make a great dinner out of the specials they have out at the Trident Grill for dinner time. There is no charge for this but they have some various special menu items at night. So... a perfect night!!
DrivesLikeMario Posted June 11, 2017 #16 Share Posted June 11, 2017 A few tips or words of advice - - Most people on their first few cruises feel this overpowering need to do everything, experience everything and try everything. Try to hold back a little and just relax. - Don't expect everything to be perfect because it won't be. I'll never forget how disappointed I was when it wasn't perfect after years of listening to my mother say how perfect cruising is. I learned to let the little things slide. - You'll be exhausted and overwhelmed on the first day for sure and maybe even the first few days. Don't worry - I still feel like this after 40 cruises on the first day. It's okay. Give yourself time to just soak it all in and again, relax and enjoy. BTW, best wishes to the bride and congratulations to the groom! :)

Thrak Posted June 11, 2017 #18 Share Posted June 11, 2017 What I look forward to is... Everything. Walking up the gangplank and entering the ship. Standing in the Atrium looking around after boarding. Walking the Promenade. Looking at the wake. Sitting and reading and then looking up to see the sea going by. Seeing the spout of a whale or two. Watching a movie up on Lido deck with nothing but sky above and sea all around. Every single thing. I can't wait to get back aboard. October seems so far away. Colo Cruiser Posted June 11, 2017 #19 Share Posted June 11, 2017 Adagio for a martini. Explorers for a comedy show. Skywalkers for the incredible views. Sitting on the promenade deck watching the ocean go by.
Gloworm2 Posted June 11, 2017 #20 Share Posted June 11, 2017 I love when pulling away after a port day and there is another ship adjacent to ours. We leave first and people come out to the decks on the other ship and enthusiastically see us off. Invariably someone on the other ship moons us. Hopefully someone with a nice butt[emoji16] Sent from my iPhone using Forums
jasbo49 Posted June 11, 2017 #21 Share Posted June 11, 2017 What is everyone else looking forward to? A couple of things I look forward to: 1. Standing at the edge of the balcony after we are underway, just staring straight down at the swirling, translucent water. It just washes all the stresses away. 2. The first time we get up from a meal in the MDR (usually embarkation day lunch) and just walk away. No waiting for a check or figuring out how much to tip; just walk away. lovevacadays Posted June 12, 2017 #22 Share Posted June 12, 2017 What a wonderful list you have compiled. You will have a great cruise. I look forward to all the things you do. I also look forward to sea days where I can do as much or as little as I want. And, on those days I always have some lounge chair and a book time that I cherish. lovevacadays Posted June 12, 2017 #23 Share Posted June 12, 2017 Walking the open decks and looking at the ocean! Never gets old for me. It sure doesn't get old. I've done 19 cruises which is less than many on these boards. I think if I was on my 500th cruise I would still truly love walking the open decks and looking at the ocean. I have a few like you in my life and am so grateful. I have also cruised with one or two who just "liked" cruising but did not get that cruise high you get from the time you arrive at the embarkation port until the final day. I don't understand those ones LOL. Cruising is magic to me.
