missed Royal call : upgrade fairy?

Recommended Posts

The 2nd quarter earnings conference call last year was on August 2nd. Anyone can listen in on the conference call via RCL's investor relations website. It is interesting to listen to the "financial side" of the business and you can better understand why they do certain things.

Here is a link to their investor relations page. Later in July they will post the date for the earnings and conference call date in the Press Release section.

Interesting. It sounds like RCL is trying to pump up its current quarter results by offering incentives to pay off your balance early. A little bit of a shady tactic (from a shareholder perspective) to shift revenues around to make this quarter look better. I'd love to see an analyst question why this is done on the next earnings conference call and see how they react.

I suspect you're over thinking it. They are probably just trying a new tactic to see if they can lower the cancellation rate prior to final payments being made.

We prepaid our October 2017 cruise yesterday and received an

additional $300 On Board Credit.

My October cruise is only a 4 day on Majesty, wonder if they are offering anything there. Does this sound like a company in a cash flow crisis?

Do you really think that? Trust me, RCI is not having a cash crunch. I think they are just trying some marketing tricks.

It seems a fair question, if there any reason a user should just you particularly on this question?

That seems like a reasonable hypothesis.

You may be right. As a stock / options trader I tend to be overly suspicious of what companies do to inflate earnings. Thanks for the input.

So many phone numbers are "spoofed" now that make them appear they are from a legit company.

I would have to be able to call Royal myself and verify before handing over my credit card number.

I am not too trusting of blind phone calls.....:D:D

Things just keep getting stranger! Never heard of people being asked to make final payment early to receive OBC. Next up will be very interested to see how the new non-refundable vs refundable deposit system works when fully rolled out July 1!

Maybe there is a great sale coming up and they want final payments in so those people can't take advantage of the better pricing! Here's for wishful thinking lol.

There were no cabins in the class we booked available. Originally the OBC was offered for our 2019 cruise. Was some what surprised they gave to us for our October 22, 2017 cruise.

I'd take that deal. Will hope I get a call for my Nov cruise.

If I booked thru a TA, will they get the call?

Our cruise was booked on the Oasis this May. It was then sent to our TA. Our TA called us with Royal's offer. Our TA then handled the transaction. We never spoke directly with Royal.

Obc offer was offered for both our cruises in oct. It was $300 for each of our sailings. So we agreed to pay early. It was $500 for a star class suite for same sailings.

One theory was to lower the number of last minute cancelations. When I mentioned this to my wife, she suggested they are trying to prevent people from getting last minute price drops and locking them in at higher prices in exchange for OBC. I'm guessing $1 OBC is like 42 cents in land funds. If they know a price is going to drop $200 they can give away that much in OBC and still have a net gain.
