Where is Liberty and How are Things On board?

Recommended Posts

Then what should they do or be doing that would make all the complainers happy

Allow people that were supposed to have started their cruise on Liberty today to cancel for a full refund (without having to show "proof" that they can't make it to Galveston).

The area is expecting 2 to 3 more feet of rain, Galveston is under many tornado watches, they are rescuing people from roof tops, roads are continuing to flood until Thursday and Royal thinks they are disembarking you today? The pilot boats aren't even there............all esencial people are in search and rescue mode, and your Captain is bothering the harbor pilot? He has enough work to do than worry about a cruise ship full of safe people when they are starting to find bodies.

You won't probably get off that ship until late Tues or Wed at the earliest and it may not even be at Galveston.

Everyone on these boards are appalled by Royals lack of communication with you. Stay safe and enjoy a few more days at sea. Have a drink on me!!:halo:

I really don't understand all the blame on the cruiselines. Read your contract!!! Weather is not under the control of any cruiselines. Every one of us takes the risk this can happen when we cruiseduring hurricane season. I leave from Florida in 3 weeks and I know there is a real possibility a hurricane could impact us. Will I be disappointed....absolutely. Will I blame rccl?.....NO. Start giving the cruiselines a break. Do you really think they aren't doing everything they can to make it work according to schedule? Seriously, so many of you write like rccl is intentionally trying to personally ruin your action. It is a risk YOU bought into when booking. Sit back, rekax, take things as they come and enjoy what vacation you can enjoy. You are still infinitely better off than the thousands who have lost everything in the last two days.

Wow, some people here are overly dramatic. Some of you are acting crazy. You have no idea what other contingeny plans that they are making. Why announce them until they are in place? No one on the ship is going hungry. If they have to charter planes & buses to get them to certain destinations, that takes time as well. They are working this, not you behind a keyboard playing "I know what is best" and they don't know what they are doing.

There's a bunch of hate being directed here at greedy evil RC for not just heading to New Orleans like Carnival, but Carnival currently, actually has a ship porting in NoLA and probably a lot more in place with regard to facilities, supplies and personnel.

What "facilities, supplies and personnel" would RCI need in order to just let people debark?

1. The ships that went to NOLA didn't stay. Provisioned and left. Still trying to get to Galveston.

2. Marine traffic show Liberty waiting to enter port, just outside harbor, probably within the 12 mile limit for no casinos, etc.

3. While there is flooding the Galveston webcam show cars moving.

RCI isn't trying to ruin anyone's vacation, just trying to make decisions based on the info they have. Can you imagine if they dropped people in NOLA and while they would be responsible for getting the passengers who booked air with them, there are still very many passengers who drove to Galveston and would need to get back there and would be screaming loudly about where they were. RCI can't win no matter what it does.

Interestingly United flights from Newark yesterday to Houston flew. Today's flights are cancelled. They said you can reschedule for same route and fare class but did not seem to be offering refunds.

It's a crummy situation no matter how you look at it.

They could have done like Carnival and given people the option of getting off in New Orleans.

Customs, immigration, shoreside staff to tie up the ship, cabs, buses, Uber/Lyft drivers, parking staff.....porters,

Need I continue?? You don't just pull up a ship, set the gangway and let 4000+ pax walk off:confused::rolleyes:

None of those are cruise line employees. They are in that area all the time.

Possibly because there were some windows yesterday that planes could get in but a crap-ton of rain fell overnight and flooded things that were not yesterday?

Very few people live on Galveston island. Almost all of those personnel probably commute in from the Houston area.

Even a cursory search of the internet would show you just how bad the flooding in the Houston area is right now with major interstates and many surface roads under feet of water.

I-45 which is the only way to get to the island is under water and closed in at least one place on the drive from Houston to Galveston, according to TXDOT.

Also, even if they could dock and get people off, those people would have nowhere to go. Both airports are closed, with IAH opening tomorrow at noon at the earliest and Hobby closed until Wednesday.

And getting from Galveston to IAH is probably impossible right now and will still be impossible tomorrow.

Those who drove in may well not be able to get home. Most typical routes to other cities in TX or out of state involve roads that are currently under water.

No they are not.

Customs drive from Houston -

Buses come from Houston -

Majority of cabs come from Houston

Terminal employees come from Mainland and Island

Stevedores come from mainland and Island

The entire Houston area, including airports, is shut down due to massive flooding

People are much safer on the ship.

Ah, sorry.

It's been reported that liberty may be heading to Miami. Probably chose that because it's a RCI port and they're going to need lots of customer service agents available to help folks as they disembark.

New Orleans they could get folks off, but wouldn't have staff to help them.

This may already be posted as I haven't looked through the threads. Letter we received this morning. Captain just gave an update at 10:11a that we are 8 miles from port but it is still closed. He was hoping they would make an exception for us and let us in. He is on another conference call.

If that captain really thought they would make an exception for them and drop 4000 people off in Galveston with no way to get out, he or she, should be relieved of command.
