We are now Diamond Plus with 22 cruises completed. In 2013, we received a call the week before the cruise to upgrade from a balcony to a JS for $200 total. I took it. I believe we were nearly Diamond then but definitely not Diamond Plus. So it does happen but not often.

I would also have jumped on that upgrade!

Think I might have been quite fortunate have cruised 6 times with royal caribbean and had two complimentary upgrades .

First from an oceanview to a balcony and on our last cruise got upgraded from balcony to owners suite .

Going to be hard going back to an inside now.

As an entry level gold member of C&A, we cruised 5 times.

Twice, we got a free upgrade from oceanview to large oceanview on Majesty, and balcony to JS on Freedom.

Once we got an upsell, on Enchantment, for a balcony.

We're now platinum. Our next two, I would love an offer, but will be paying close attention to prices at 90 days out and closer for a cheaper upgrade to a JS. That would get us very close to emerald.

Booked Balcony GTY & had not yet been assigned a cabin when a week later I noticed the Suite GTY price had come down substantially so I "upsold" myself by calling the TA to pay the $900 additional difference (about $500 more than an assigned balcony cabin at that time).

The "FREE upgrade" came when RCI assigned us a GS instead of a Junior Suite so we saved $1,800 over what an assigned GS would have cost.

I am gold but we learned after booking that my wife is Platinum (Due to an extra Mediterranean cruise I could not make due to work).

As we did not realize her status until after booking, the reservation was booked under my gold in this poll

  • 2 weeks later...

I was offered to move from interview view to an interior view for just $50. Found that funny (although when I called to inquire the move was from aft section to mid section). In the end, for just $140 more, we were able to switch to ocean view (guarantee). That "upsell" was well worth it.

My daughter and I received upgrade from balcony to Junior Suite on Navigator 2 years ago. Only found out after boarding when neither muster drill nor restaurant found us by original number. No charge, pleasant surprise. I am diamond, she is Emerald.

Not in the past 3 or more years. We cruise 4-8 times per year for the past 12 years. Some of the bookings were specific cabins and some were guarantees. AND in every case of the guarantees, we received the super class we were guaranteed. (ie - we booked a balcony guarantee and got a balcony - I don't consider a standard balcony on one deck to be an upgrade over a standard balcony on another deck.).

It has been maybe 5 years since we've had an unpaid upgrade.

Had a free upgrade from Boardwalk Balcony on Oasis to 2 Bedroom Aqua Suite. Was a strange circumstance tho, as the original call was to Casino Royal to inquire about their membership and how it worked. They asked if I play anywhere else, I told them Vegas, they asked some more questions and I thought that was it. 2 days later the same gentleman called back and asked if I would like to be upgraded to the Aqua. Was only wife and I, so it was overkill, but we actually entertained fellow cruisers a couple of nights, which was really fun.

Other than that, nothing before or since on Royal. 2 out of 4 on Disney tho, but that is a whole different story. lol

I am Diamond Plus and have never received an upgrade or a call to upgrade for a charge. I do realize some of it may be my fault in that in the old days, where I could see/change my profile, I did have it noted that no upgrade unless those I am linked to get them as well.

When I sail with family, we get adjoining cabins, so don't want that to change. Many times though DH and I traveled without family and still never were upgraded or even offered an upgrade,
