How many reservations do you have?

not the same as being in driving distance..

and even rome costs $500/plane ticket in the summer....if i'm paying for 9 people, that's way too much money to go on 20 cruises a year like some of the people on here....

i can't even manage one a year at those rates...

now if we lived in florida, where we could take advantage of last minute deals (like florida resident deals on DCL) i'd find it difficult not to cruise every weekend

I had a friend ( who cruises more than I do) tell me the exact same thing. :)

17 between now and Dec 2019. But we will be getting 2 more from the casino after April 1, 2019

We said we would slow down after making Pinnacle but that isn't happening. As long as Royal keeps giving us decent prices.

That sounds incredibly repetitive... You know there are other options for vacation besides cruising, right?

We currently have 8 cruises booked on Carnival, thru November of 2019. Some are simply back to backs to make the cruises longer. This is the most we've ever had at one time, but if we don't have at least 3 going, we feel lost!

And dear hubby checks them every single day (sometimes several times a day) for price drops or other good deals. The next to nothing deposits they have going are making this way too easy!

We'll be doing the Panama canal in May 2019!

We have 5 cruises this year all booked from the beginning of this year. Three cruises are still waiting to happen.

We could've start booking for next year, but our company is bought and being merged so I don't know what can happen next year. If my position is eliminated we might go for longer than 7-12 days cruise before I start looking for a new job. So we are holding...

What options besides cruising, can you unpack ONCE, not worry about where you're eating & be someplace different every DAY? We've tried the other options. We spent at LEAST twice as much money, had a lot of hassles & struggled with different places to eat.

Sure the routes are repetitive. We go just for the boat rides! There are so many cruise lines (they are the same, but with little nuances that are different enough) to try & so many itineraries! We've been all over the world on cruises!

Resorts are expensive, captive & boring. Driving by car is monotonous & dangerous. Train hopping from town to town is tedious & expensive. Flying to a foreign country & touring is also tedious & expensive.

We once hopped on a cruise to Europe, one way, for $499 a person! 18 days on a cruise ship! 9 days at sea. Had a blast, relaxing, dining & dancing our way to Venice, Italy. Find me a vacation option like this & I'll eat my cruise t-shirt!

Give me a good cruise ship, a good crew, open water & fair skies any day of the week & I'm there! After 157 cruises, I consider it a way of life!

We have 6 booked currently through April 2020. When new itineraries are released we book right away and collect price drops along the way. Typically 3 cruises per year.
April 2020, does that mean you have Princess World cruise planned for 2020?

I love reading all of the reponses. I thought I was extravagant with 4 cruises booked. Now I know that is not the case. :D

In reference to the comments about living close to port. Interestingly, I relocated from Maryland to Florida three years ago, and now am further driving distance (about 90 mins) from the closest port than I used to be (about 20 mins.)

But you probably get more choices

As Joe Walsh sang, I can’t complain but sometimes I still do. We are “loser” midwesterners who still work. But, I have a steady job at a company I love and get 6 weeks of vacation (not bad for the U.S,). We have 8 cruises planned and also take land trips. I find “having” to fly to port means we feel free to cruise from anywhere, and except for short winter breaks, Caribbean cruises have lost luster for us especially since we can now cruise in off peak times. So, although we might cruise more if we were closer to a port, I am happy with cruising elsewhere and getting the experience of seeing new ports.

Good song, but you probably have direct flights being in a large city to your south we don’t have direct flights, except to Dallas, Chicago, Denver, and Atlanta, unless we fly Allegiant or Frontier which are always a bit iffy.

I agree with your thoughts of the Caribbean, I enjoy those cruises, but have been there and done all of that, and I choose to fly to wherever to do things that are more interesting or exotic. My wife, was burned out on the Caribbean twice in our lives, so maybe she will want to return to those places in another 10 years.

on all but one of the cruises i've been on (the one being an alaska cruise - the rest all out of florida), there were a very large number of people who had paid next to nothing as last minute florida residents.

They paid less than it would have cost them to stay home and feed themselves.

meanwhile, we were paying pretty close to rack rate...

i didn't let it bother me, but i sure was jealous of them just being able to hop aboard a ship at a moment's notice!!

Absolutely! Itineraries out of Port of Baltimore are limited. And since I'm a warm weather lover, I wouldn't sail out of Baltimore in the cooler months. So I would end up flying to Florida usually.

9 cruises encompassing 76 nights between October 2018 and March 2020. A 10th I have my eye on.

Well, I added a 10th... a 4-nighter in September out of Seattle. Not the other cruise I was and still am considering to add. Finally a Going Going Gone choice that was attractive.. :)

So 10 cruises encompassing 80 nights between September 2018 and March 2020. All RCL.

Living in the Orlando area, it's way too easy to drive to the ports - we currently have 7 booked through the end of 2019, but 2 of them are not local sails - Pacific Coastal in September and Alaska next year. We've been doing Oasis lately b/c we love the ship and it's close to home, but honestly are getting bored with Caribbean ports. Looking ahead I want to start doing more "bucket list" type cruises, traveling to places I haven't been, while still enjoying the ships. So many beautiful places in the world to see, and the older we get, the less time to see them:eek:

You might consider driving down to Fort Lauderdale and departing from there. A much wider variety of ships and itineraries than are available in either Port Canaveral or Tampa.:)

Been there, done that many times! We've sailed out of all the Florida ports. Port Canaveral is easiest as it's only 1-1/2 hours, but the others work too. :D Right now we've got a bunch of PC cruises booked, and still want to do the Harmony when she's there, but are definitely looking at other options for 2020 and beyond.

We have 9 booked through to fall of 2019, ranging in length from 7 days to 51 days each, for a total of 124 days... life is short and we love to cruise, so we're enjoying it as much as we can while we're still young enough and mobile enough to squeeze every moment of joy out of every day!

Born in Florida, but left & returned 15yrs later. Lived in West Palm Beach & over 20 yrs wound up on 60+ cruises! But otherwise hated living there. No change of seasons, expensive home insurance, too many tourists. Now live in Raleigh area of North Carolina & love it!

We can get to Charleston, SC, Norfolk, VA, Baltimore, MD, & even NYC within a day's drive or flight. Only problem is; unless you take a longer cruise - the nearest destinations are Nassau, Freeport or Bermuda. But we have direct inexpensive flights daily to Miami, FLL & NYC. We even have directs to London & Paris daily. So we can go BE tourists when we want to.

I find 2 are the maximum number I can have going at one time, well maybe 3 if daughter & I get to do our 2020 Allure or end up changing if she goes in for dry dock. I am retired and husband & I usually did 1 every other year until 2014, then we had one in 2015 & 2017. Presently it is just myself so the daughter will join me when she can. I started a separate acct just for cruises so keep deposits going in to build it up.
