Rare pyropoodle Posted March 9, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2019 maybe overpacking from buying so many trinkets in port so they have to tape the suit case together????/
Rare pyropoodle Posted March 9, 2019 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2019 ...also, duct tape can replace a bra in some instances, so if you forget to pack a strapless bra for an evening gown, DUCT TAPE to the rescue!!!!!
Chief93 Posted March 9, 2019 #4 Share Posted March 9, 2019 Gaffers tape does not leave residue on a surface when removed. It is also ridiculously expensive.

Yes, but you forgot to mention the nasty skin abscess from the adhesive when you remove the tape.....no thanks. To the OP: I have read that duct/gaffers tape can be used for things like taping cords down to the floor so you don't trip on them if you have a c pap or soemthing like that, or for repairing luggage. It can also be used to temporarily fix a fallen hem in your pants/skirt. Some people swear by it and take it on every cruise, others say it is not necessary. I say take it once just in case and if you don't use it, leave it home next time. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. 2wheelin Posted March 9, 2019 #10 Share Posted March 9, 2019 I just wrap several feet of it the long way around an old gift card (or hard plastic the size of a credit card) and slip it in my emergency items bag. Takes up no more room than a couple credit cards and have used it on occasion. Hem, tear in a back pack or luggage, shoe, purse strap. There are literally hundreds of uses. Could even tape down the shower curtain if you are one who has a problem being “attacked” by it. Lol
PortSideCruzan Posted March 9, 2019 #11 Share Posted March 9, 2019 (edited) 2 hours ago, Tracey.kinney425 said: Why would one need one of these tapes while on a cruise? Hi ☺️ To fix broken luggage, hand bags, etc.. To repair sandals, shoes To seal curtains in your cabin To remove lint if you don't have a lint brush To mend torn hems To tape shower curtain to the wall or floor The main reason is luggage repair. There are many, many legitimate uses. Simply go to Google & type in "Why take duct tape on a cruise" ☺️ Edited March 9, 2019 by PortSideCruzan
pe4all Posted March 9, 2019 #12 Share Posted March 9, 2019 I always pack duct tape. I take one of my "almost done" rolls with me. Have used it to take up hems that have fallen. Suitcase tears - I use the duffle type suitcases - on my last cruise. Tape curtain shut cause it wouldn't close completely. Last cruise there was a rattle from the a/c vent in our cabin - a bit of duct tape and the rattle stopped! Never travel without it.
OCruisers Posted March 9, 2019 #13 Share Posted March 9, 2019 Duct tape can be bought in convenient small blister packs which is much better than taking a big roll.

RocketMan275 Posted March 9, 2019 #16 Share Posted March 9, 2019 There are two essential products. WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, WD-40. If moves and it shouldn't, duct tape. 1
Kartgv Posted March 9, 2019 #17 Share Posted March 9, 2019 We've used it several times for luggage repair, a ripped hem, and once in very rough seas to tape some loose cabinet doors shut and extra hangars together to stop the banging.

Another use for duct tape - blisters. Put some gauze on the blister itself, duct tape over that. It sticks longer than bandaid do, and takes care of all of the friction issues. Doesn't look so nice, but if the blister is bad, I don't care.
