Why won't Princess let you split stockholder OBC if both of you own the stock jointly

They would not let me do that when I called in earlier. When I asked why, the response was that the program of letting you use OBC precruise for excursions is new.

The fax that they received requesting the OBC had both our names on it as joint holders of the stock.

Isn't it one per cabin?

I am just thankful Princess offers these different incentives. (Military/Shareholder etc)

Yes, that is my understanding too.

We put my military benefit on my folio and my wife gets our jointly owed stock benefit on hers.  It has worked quite nicely at balancing the accounts for our excursions.

We do the same thing.

I am also wondering though why it would matter if they didn't split it?

It is the same amount of money so you can still purchase excursions or whatever else you want with it.

I also wonder why, if two unrelated passengers sharing a cabin and each one owning the required number of shares of CCL, they can't have half of the benefit credited to each one's shipboard account. it wouldn't cost Princess any more to do so, and it would us happier passengers because we'd feel like each of us was getting at least part of the benefit.

My cruise friend and I alternate taking the shareholder benefit, but that means that one or the other of us doesn't get to use the benefit every time we cruise together.

Call again and get a different agent. I have had no problem doing this in the past.

You're probably right, but it's too late since I already did the transaction.

The difference was $34. We now have that left as OBC. Somehow I'm sure that will be used.

As far as the shareholder benefit per cabin is concerned....Carnival Corp dictates that policy, not Princess.

But, I believe only Princess lets you use that OBC for excursions before boarding.

Suggestions:

1. The person making the S/H benefit claim gives the other person $50.

2. The person making the claim takes $50 out in the casino and deposits in the other person's on board account.

3. The person making the S/H benefit pays for Crown Grill and gives the other person and additional $21.

I could go on............

If the same credit card number is used by every person in the stateroom, then it makes no difference who makes the charge, all of the non-refundable OBC is used first in paying off what is due and then the refundable is used. Only if there is still a balance due will a charge be made to the credit card itself.

As an example, my wife and I recently completed a CA Coastal cruise. We had a total of $625 OBC, of which $250 was credited to my account and $375 to hers. Both of us had $100 OBC that was refundable. I had a total balance of $60.63 OBC credit and she had a balance of $148.85. The final account showed $200 as refundable and $9.48 non-refundable so it was obvious that the ship had combined her balance with mine and used both our non-refundable OBC first and never got to our refundable although I had technically "spent" all of my non-refundable OBC and some of my refundable.  It's been that way every time we've cruised although this was the first time we got all of our refundable back!

This is true once you are on the ship. I (the OP) was referring to using OBC pre-cruise to buy an excursion, something Princess allows.

I’m of the belief you could choose to keep accounts separate, charging the balance owed to one’s own credit card.

That would be fine if both have separate cards and use them independently.  But some of us use a joint card on a joint account for numerous reasons.  But each must handle it their own way,

Apparently it is too late already, but.... First, this is hardly a new issue. I have been doing it for several years. If you asked about splitting the OBC so you could buy an excursion, they probably won't do it. However (from experience) they will allow you to book more than one ticket to your account. I have called and purchased my wife's ticket under my account. If I remember correctly, both tickets had my name but that didn't matter.

Yes, you have to call to do this.

Online each person's ticket will be charged to their own account, no matter what person's name was used to sign in to the Princess web site.

As you wrote, it is too late for me (the original OP), but hopefully someone else will learn from your post. Actually I wish I had thought of that.

The excursion I bought was to go back to Heathrow from Southampton via Stonehenge. Since we have to get back to the airport and we really wanted to see Stonehenge, this seemed like an ideal excursion. It was listed with a maximum IIRC of 30, so I wanted to make sure we were able to be on it. (Previously we had taken a Princess excursion back to Heathrow from Dover via Canterbury, and it was by far the best Princess excursion we were ever on.)
