Smoking or Not

Recommended Posts

Considering the Allure Transatlantic in March 2020. I have read over the Smoking Policy for Royal Caribbean in general which seems to be pretty apropos with other Cruise Lines with the exception of some of the European lines. It states that there is no smoking in cabins or on balconies with a $250 fine for each infraction and possible removal from the ship. How stringently is this policy followed specifically when it comes to the Oasis Class ship the Allure? Does this also refer to things like Vaping? Since I am thinking about a Balcony Cabin my wife is allergic to cigarette smoke of any kind and the reason I am asking. Any experiences with next door neighbors that just don't care? If we pay for a balcony we would like to be able to use it without having to go inside to get fresh air.

Thanks in advance for experiences and information provided. 😐

A call to security and they show up pretty quickly.  East bound TA'S will only get sun on the  starboard side if your looking at a ocean view balcony.  Sun never makes it overhead.

Important thing to know. We're from Florida and get sun every day all day so maybe the Port Side may suit us better for a change. Older and not beach or pool lovers so Florida is only for the weather and slower pace of life for us. The continuous time changes are not a fun thing. But, then again, I'm a Navy veteran so have done a lot of shipboard time changes in the past.

As a non-smoker who cruises with family member that do smoke & vape, it seems like pretty much everyone follows the rules regarding where they are allowed to smoke/vape. Of course, there could always be that one person on a cruise that is oblivious.

One think I've heard more than once is that the balcony cabins right underneath the pool deck on the smoking side might catch a whiff of smoke, especially when in port and minimal breeze.  So you may want to look a few decks down.....or way foward....or non-smoking side. Just something to keep in mind.

Thank you, that helps a lot. I absolutely never book cabins unless they are between two decks full of other cabins and hopefully away from crew work rooms, any type of laundry, bars or clubs, and across from elevators. Very good to hear that RCC maintains a tight ship when it comes to smoking. I actually grew up in a house where both parents smoked. But, these days, don't want to put up with it if I can.

We've, very occasionally, called to report smokers.  It was always handled quickly.

Agree, when I called they came fast, was less then 5min once. Also know at least one I called on was Fined

" Outdoor areas near restricted areas, food venues, and kids play areas and pools will not allow smoking. "

Royal is breaking their own smoking policy. Last Nov, on Liberty, the smoking area on the port side of the pool deck went all the way back to the kiddie pool (Splash Away or whatever its' called).

Thought is was kind of odd myself but I guess smoking parents need to keep a eye on their kids.

To their credit, DW and DD refused to smoke back that far back. Just didn't seem right.

Pot smokers on each side of balcony cabin. Security would  do nothing. Stateroom attendant also reported them and they still did nothing. Cabin smell was disgusting.

Very surprised...we've seen the exact opposite and then at the end of the cruise port security was there again outside of the offending cabin...not sure what was happening...but definitely something.

We just got off Adventure.  I've never seen so many people just hanging out in the casino not gambling, just smoking.  The weather was beautiful, do not understand why they choose to be in the casino.  It's just a matter of time that RCCL will put a stop to indoor smoking, why won't they just do it...…….. ?

We where on Enchantment when Royal tested non smoking in the Casino. I believe the test lasted about a month.  On the Presidents Cruise on Freedom, during MB Q&A, that question was asked, “Why not ban smoking in the Casino “. The reply from the financial guy from Miami, stated that Casino revenue dropped 30% when smoking was eliminated in the Casino.

it wasn’t advertised that Enchantment would have no smoking. I believe if the non smokers had known this, it would have helped on the revenue side. Many non smoking Casinos in the NE and Atlantic Coast are surviving without smoking.

When Michigan banned indoor smoking (I'm thinking 8-10 years ago) the bars and restaurants all whined that it would destroy them.  It had no affect at all on their business.  Except their employees didn't have to spend 8 hours a day breathing smoke.....

Maybe they were sharing with security and the cabin attendants?

I wonder if that 30% were from people that stepped into the casino to smoke and figured, as long as I'm here, let me play a few dollars.

Unlike land-based casino where you go to the casino specially to gamble and it's just a short walk (usually) to step outside to smoke.

My experience has been that many smokers use the Casino as an indoor smoking lounge and don’t play. Of course there are those that play and smoke but a lot just use the Casino as a smoking lounge.
